The list is still missing some stuff. Progear (1-loop) is at 30, which is kind of surprising, but then again I've been playing the American version.

I've seen that list before and considered picking one game from the easiest section, playing it until I got the 1CC, then moving onto the next section, and so on... and looking at it now that I have achieved an awe inspiring two 1CCs I realise that I have actually done just that. I guess I should play something from the third section now.

Doesn't it specify with TLB? No Missing God mode has to be harder than that.

And how is Gradius IV listed as easier than Gradius III. I could theoretically 1cc Gradius III as I have done the first loop with savestates, though I can only get up to 1-5 consistently and have gotten to 1-6. But I can't even get past Stage 2 on Gradius IV, and the other stages don't look any easier either.

I tend to disagree, mate; I can 1CC Metal Black, and I'm a cack-handed, myopic piss-artist. :P

It says +6 for a clear with the TLB. Lots of similar stuff for things like DFK with various shot types.

Shouldn't espgaluda 2 be a bit higher? I haven't played it but from what i've heard it seems much harder then where its placed on that list.

I would also count the higher loops of Magmax (either the arcade or the NES version) to become one of the harder 1cc, as enemies become more aggressive that way and they keep coming from everywhere (from the right side) like there's no tomorrow, although no one has ever played it.

I've played MagMax--it's technically the first horizontal scroller for me that I've looped twice and reached the fourth screen in the third time around before I got game over (didn't make it to the three-headed boss ship the third time around). I would not say this is a hard 1cc at all, though it is true the subsequent loops do get harder.

From the second time around and beyond, just do not take the portal to the flat side scrolling underground areas ever, and stay on the semi-3d above ground/above water stages for the remaining duration of the game. The risk of going underground is just not worth it for having much less room to move and harder enemy attack patterns.

Variant yes. Must be. For instance, Tatsujin Ou 1 loop appears halfway down. This means the Japanese version, not the Euro/World versions for sure. My friends ARC and ARM bought the Jap version of Tatsujin Ou a few years ago and I told them it was quite easy, as I'd played the European version in Holland. So ARC & ARM invited me round to their place to prove that I could loop their Tatsujin Ou board. I got slaughtered!! -->Turns out that the Jap version is cram-packed with enemies and bullets, completely unlike the Euro version  . The JAP version is Hell!

So it doesn't surprise me that the 1943 version they refer to in the list, is a variant.
It's not. It's just referring to the very last stage in the game stage 16, which happens to be Yamato, where if you die you get an insta-gameover, and not coincidentally, the stage is pretty damn ridiculous. On the Saturn I wasted more time trying to clear that stage than the rest of the game combined, and that was with autofire and continuing from stage 15.

I just watched some loop 2 videos of Progear. Tough stuff. Looping just seems so brutal in general. After getting warn out from the first loop, you have to keep it together and power through the second, which is ever harder.

One of these days I will loop a game.

Try Batsugun, thats an easy game to loop imo. My first time clearing the first loop, I made it to stage 4 in the 2nd loop.

Not a shmup, but Nightmare in the Dark ... if you can make it past the 3rd boss you're almost in the clear, but the final boss ain't easy either.

This list basically confirms my suspicions. I'll never get 100% on the Achievements for Mushihimesama Futari.

Twiddle wrote:Also, I have no idea why Raiden 2 isn't above Raiden 3.
Probably because Raiden 2's difficulty curve is more balanced, whereas Raiden 3 seems to ramp things up quite a bit after the first 2 stages. At least that's been my experience. Then again, I'm not a Raiden "guru" or masterclass player by any means. Maybe it's because I've been playing Raiden 2 for years and years as well, and my Raiden 3 play has been much less because of the fact that I think it's a lesser game than its predecessor :P
