Hey guys.

No, it's not out yet. Just a status report so you don't think we're dead.

Another beta went out a day or two ago, this time with all hacks in place for 1009 and some additional text fixes, and all seems to be checking out pretty good this time. Yes, we'll be doing the release for 1009. While nearly all hacks are done for 1008f I doubt we'll be trying to support two versions. (I'm not quite that insane...)

We are also getting the manual translated, and that is taking a fair amount of time.

Again, there's no timetable for release, but it's getting there.

This game has been among the most difficult/extensive set of hacks I've ever had to do... And that's saying a lot given the nightmares that a certain fighting game gave me. This game has not been easy to work with, haha. After it's all done I'll do a nice long writeup on everything that went into it.

Worse than SWR, eh?

Was the problem you had running 1.0.0.9 with Wine a bug in Wine or something else?

Yeah. That game had its share of parsing bugs(for example, you couldn't use commas because they were always script delimiters), but all the issues were confined to 2 or 3 areas instead of being scattered all over.

As far as the Wine thing went, I'm just an idiot. Made a separate third installation of the game, forgot one important file, startup of the game failed silently. Whoops.

Hellsinker reaches a new level of awesomeness as one of the most dificult to hack game that Gensokyo.org had translated (?).

I don't think inefficient programming exactly qualifies as awesome. However, it does give the whole thing sort of an "outsider art" feel.

No :P

AFAIK we're mainly waiting on the translators to do their thing ("Amazing, no further problems cropping up on the HS stuff. Maybe I'm free after all."). And the manual is also getting translated.

AWESOME NEWS!

(Yeah I know, I'm late by an entire month, whatever)

You've done great translations in the past and we all have faith in you. We shall wait patiently for the patch, so take your time! Besides, it's not like I'd have much time for gaming until the summer break...

A domain containing a TS Eliot quote with no actual relevance to the game at hand? Bonus in that it's a dyndns address pointing at someone's home connection. Nothing important here, just someone's vanity domain.

(status: still waiting on manual translations, though I hear it's almost done.. naz has been busy lately and it's been a fair amount of work.)

This sort of question is why I usually don't say anything until either release or a few days before release.

I already said I heard it's getting there and that he's been busy. What's the point of being more specific than that? It'll be done when it's done.

I should really be able to recognize T.S. Eliot ;V

OVB, you need to stop bugging the translation team about release date. You've done it 3 times and mauve has asked you to stop. Chill, it'll be done when it's done. In the meantime, slake that thirst for Hellsinker by trying to beat my scores!

It was actually a fansite created by one of Tonnor's friends. It had an image board and some links but guess the domain expired or something.

Also, jeez, home connection? Japan never learns...

I actually wasn't familiar with it, but now that you mention it I do see the old site over on archive.org. Huh.

So yeah the domain must have expired. The current one says it was registered back in February, so it probably has nothing at all to do with whatever used to exist.

Fuckin A.

I don't think the patch will work on my machine (considering that the c72 patch and the 1.009 didn't register somehow) but eh, I'll find a copy somehow

For the patch, you need to manually copy all the files over, and 1.0.0.9 uses a different main executable (HS_dx9build.exe).

That being said, the translation will install fine over .8f too. Just as long as you're not on a version earlier than that, you're fine.

But I know that once this is done then my work has only just begun since I am practicly the only one currently updating the Hellsinker TvTropes page.

Ah ha! It would be an amazing discovery if there was some kind of link between T.S. Eliot and Hellsinker.
The Fire Sermon in The Wasteland is an obvious Buddhist reference so maybe in there (although the quote on the site is from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, my favourite poem in the English language).
Perhaps those of our members who are still actively using hallucinogenics could assist with this side of the research
