Because a lot of the items videogame collectors raise the price through the roof for prevents anyone from playing them legally. Videogames are unique, lunchboxes are not. Your analogy is full of holes.

Gus wrote:It's a serious point. If one of your main arguments for why it's so horrible is that games are meant to be played and that you'd feel insulted if someone never bothered trying to appreciate all those details you worked hard programming in then why don't you also feel insulted that the majority don't give a fuck about all that scoring depth you spent those long nights working on? If that analogy hits a little close to home then how about those stamp and lunchbox collectors? Why don't you go after them too for also keeping those items shelved away rather than using them for their intended purpose?
Trying to get this to stick as an analogy for sealed game collecting is a new height for dumbfuckery. You've failed to make the scoreboard for common sense.

Can you take your preaching about shmups not being used as intended and witter on about it somewhere else please.

I can understand this to an extent. Even if the guy who wrote this article actually paid for and opened the game, his appreciation of its content is so facile that he may as well not have bothered playing at all. I cetainly wouldn't credit him with any more insight than someone with a sealed copy rotting on the shelf.

Still, there's a whole different definition of lame between playing (let alone clearing - a good game will take some effort for that) games shallowly and never playing them at all.

Let's not talk about that article, it's offensive. There is a difference between someone playing a game casually and not playing it at all. The author of this one falls into the latter.

Gus's thinly veiled attempt to reprise the 'you're all shit because you're not me' argument is tiring and unrelated to SGC, so let's not dwell on it any further plz.

Yeah, I knew he was just continuing his same shtick from the main chat forum. I just like putting the boot into that article whenever I can, and his post was an apt tangent. :p

Man, wish I could contribute to this in some way. Alas, I've always been of the mind that it's a waste to just hold onto something in pristine, unopened condition, without ever playing it. If you're into collecting figures, and you refuse to put that 1/6 Hot Toys version new suit Batman from The Dark Knight out on a shelf where it belongs, then why the hell did you buy it in the first place? It's the same with games. You buy a game to play it, end of story.

My wife and I actually argue about this fairly regularly. She sees games and toys as an investment to sell at a higher price in the future. I see them as things to buy because you want to actually get some use out of them. This is where the conversation usually derails into the hundreds of games I have packed away, that I've bought but never gotten around to playing...

At any rate, I love what you're doing with this idea. If I ever get my hands on any more rare games, I'll be sure to send you a video of it being opened up.

This whole thing still going? I have a copy of Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label that's waiting to be opened. I don't even have a J360 yet (sorta tight on money at the moment) but I'm going to be opening this game sooner or later - so I figured why not sooner?
If you don't mind skinny arms, I'll record it.

Finally got around to uploading 3 more vids, thanks gabe, shmuppy and Drago for the contributions.

Looks like my awesome guide to sealed game collecting has been doing the rounds. I wonder if it's convinced anyone to jack it in.

I'm all for making fun of the die hard sealed game folk, but come on. He paid for something that was supposed to be new and from a specific region and got something not new from a different region. I think most of us would be pissed about that. If not, you likely enjoy shopping at gamestop.

Who is that guy, and why does he look so hideous? Side-effect of sealed game collecting perhaps? >_>

Looks like he's had his nose broken at least once. So yes, a side-effect of sealed game collecting.

Yeah, to be fair, I'd be pissed too if it was something like Rising Star sending out a US region-locked shmup to Australia and going 'TROLOLO we give you used parts that won't even work on your Xbox', but I certainly couldn't care about actual packaging. If it's in good playable condition, who cares besides the die hard sealed game folk?

It's worth noting in this particular instance, he didn't order the game online, he walked into the store and picked it up off of the shelf. Alarm bells didn't start ringing despite the 360 seal being on the top of the box rather than the side. Even I would have thought that was weird, and I don't especially care.

Skykid wrote:Personally I very much dislike the entire notion of sealed game collecting, always have. I find it a little distasteful that someone will take a great game and never liberate it from its packaging to fulfil its purpose. You can still keep something complete/mint and enjoy the game. Cellophane means nothing.
It could be worse, they could be taking games out of circulation to turn them into a Loveseat.

I remember the outrage from collectors when Disgaea was re-released on Playstation's Greatest Hits collection. Hilarious!
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Just as a point of clarification, the cartridges been used for this project are common cartridges that would otherwise be sent to the dump or be recycled the same way as electronics are.....just so you know.

I highly doubt it. Last time I checked people sell stuff that still works. But it's okay! It's art, right?
