Yeah, same here. I finally paid more than I should of for Flight 005 Conspiracy like the day before they announced the OVA remaster as well. They're doing a damn fine job cleaning this stuff up! I wrote to them for some contest about my love for Dirty Pair but they didn't care and gave it to some wanker that wrote about Naruto or something hack. At this point I don't really upgrade many releases, but Dirty Pair is a must for me. It's really the anime that got me into anime. <3xbl0x180 wrote:Plus they OAVs and movies got re-released by The Right Stuf, Intl., so the video quality and special features should be alright, almost like the old AnimEigo stuffdrauch wrote:Dirty Pair OVAs are incredible. Watch them all. I personally hate the other shit (Flash and the American garbage). The original light novels are awesome as well if you want to venture into that territory.![]()
I almost regret forking over for the old ADV releases - they cost twice as much! But they were very enjoyable. Hell, I remember going to see Affair In Nolandia at the cinema during a midnight showing at the old Laemmle Theatre in Los Angeles: They used to run Streamline Pictures, Central Park Media/US Manga Corps, and Manga Video movie releases

watched the first Megazone 23 OVA - really liked it, watching the second one now and I'm loving the art, it uses the same type of techniques for drawing shiny metallic objects as Zeta Gundam (that's the best way I can think to describe it o_O ) -
I love the detail on the cigarette packs - from this can be gleaned the rather bizzarre fact that in this universe, tough guys smoke Dunhill Menthols !!!. To be honest I don't think I could think of a less 'manly' cigarette if I tried hehe
(obv. I'm not saying cigarettes are good things)

Megazone 23 is absolutely phenomenal. Part 2 is probably the standout section for me. You'll probably noticed the Gradius reference in the beginning of part 3

It's when they're in the arcade at the beginning. You see a marquee in the background

oh cool imma recheck that - finished all the OVAs - really liked it - ultimate cyberpunk - though to be honest I never quite 'got' why speeding along on a motorbike is a better way of hacking then say, sitting in front of a PC hahadrauch wrote:It's when they're in the arcade at the beginning. Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
on an aside, I have 'Tokyo Eye' on NHK set to auto record on my Skybox - yesterday I watched one about 'Exploring the Yurikamome Line:
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/ ... 20321.html
Needless to say when it said 'the next stop we're visiting is Odaiba' I was going to my wife mad excited 'Yes! Yes! they're gonna show the 1/1 Gundam!!!'
which they did and had the proper MSG intro music in the background as they did so
- showed some cool footage of the hand being built etc. too.
anywayz on that it said that it is April 19th that the Gundam will be 'unveiled'/launched (though according to photos I've seen it's looked pretty much finished for a good while now) -
does anyone know of a website that will have a live stream of the event or even just footage the next day?

This Season seems to be full of moeblob... there are a lot of series and the intensity of the moeblob in each one is quite a lot...
- Acchi Kocchi
- Haiyore! Nyaruko-san
- Kore Wa Zombie Desuka? Of The Dead
- Saki: Achiga-hen
- Sengoku Collection (the GREATEST of the season)
- Upotte!! (The biggest WTF i've seen on a while... moefied assault rifles
)
So, if you dislike series that focus greatly on moe then don't ever watch this or you'll get angry/sad/WTF'd.
Well... in contrast, there are some great series going on too... it seems like the quality/moeblob balance has gone to extremes:
- Ozuma Episodes
- The New LUPIN THE III
- Nazo no Kanojo X
- Sankarea (it has some moe.... but the story is very good)
- Tasogare Otome
- Zetman
What a strange spring we have...

I'm watching these two, and I absoultely adore Mysterious Girlfriend X. Dat old school art style... Dat strange, yet arousing premise... Dat ear fuckingly good music... Dat natural sounding VA... I have never been left with so many good first impressions from the beginning of an anime before.O. Maiden of Amnesia might be cool. Didn't think it was anything special, but I do like the ghostly mischief.

Moefied or not, I think there's a few good series on this season. Aside from the continuation of Fate/Zero and Mouretsu Space Pirates, I'm currently watching:
- Kuroko no Basuke (because I'm a basketball fan, obviously)
- Natsuiro Kiseki
- Lupin the 3rd
- Tasogare Otome X Amnesia
- Jormungand
And I'm putting through the "three episodes" test:
- Sankarea (hasn't quite grabbed me yet)
- Uchuu Kyoudai (interesting setting, slow start)
- Accel World (love the setting, but main character is a bit whiny and annoying, love the art direction though)
I've seen the first two episodes of Medaka Box and quite honestly thought it was the most pointless anime ever created - main character is borderline overpowered and very uninteresting, which put me off within minutes of starting EP1. Not really bothered about the rest of the series that are showing this season, but might dip into them if they're being raved about.

These animu have too much moe for me to care. I'd rather stick to watching reruns of "Captain Tylor"

Try the Eatman series and the 8-Man After OVA- they're old, but pretty awesome.

Just finished watching Rose of Versailles - if you can stomach the shoujo bubbles that are prominent in the first half of the series, it's very good stuff. Sure it takes some historical liberties here and there, but it did get me reading more about the subject, and that can't be a bad thing.

Dunno how they will develop the anime but the Sankarea manga it's, at least, interesting.
Another thing is Nazo no Kanojo... that manga is pure awesomeness, hope they don't do anything half-assed with the anime.

lol, from what I've heard it should be the opposite, since the manga has apparently gotten stale as hell. The anime version will have an original ending, which I think is something to be really looking forward to.
This OP is pure bliss.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I liked them because they had that mid-90s OAV style reminiscent of Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 OAVs - the eyes are slightly larger, the colours are slightly brighter, and there are a lot of large sweatdrops appearing on heads. It could be annoying for anyone who isn't aware of the trappings and nuances of 15 year old series. I've only seen it once when TRSI first released them, as opposed to the teevee series, which I've seen a few times, including as fan-subs in the 90s, so I liked the teevee series more.drauch wrote:Captain Tylor is gold. I just watched the short collection Meikyuu Monogatari (neo tokyo) the other day, thought it was excellent. Any recommendations for similar things? I will have likely seen many of them by now, but I'm sure there's some I haven't. I've been using the article at pelleas.net on "karisuma animators" as a exploratory guide of sorts, which has been really illuminating: http://www.pelleas.net/animators/ . Shmups would really benefit from something of that caliber for game design/company histories.
