Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
For whatever reason my Windows 7 machine and Windows XP machine aren't even connecting together, Hamachi regardless (it adds like 10 nonexistent players when you join the game before timing out with a "This game session is no longer available"). It seems to be due to port forwarding (Readme says you might need 3658 UDP forwarded) and my router won't let me forward the same port on two different IPs. Odd, I remember my old laptop worked just fine with the XP machine in LAN without needing port forwarding. So yeah, it looks like I need someone else with the game in order to test Outrun 2006 LAN with Hamachi. Send me a PM if you want to give this a go.

You'd only need port forwarding on your router if you've got connections coming from outside your network. And yes, you can only forward an external port to a single internal IP, that's normal.BareknuckleRoo wrote:For whatever reason my Windows 7 machine and Windows XP machine aren't even connecting together, Hamachi regardless (it adds like 10 nonexistent players when you join the game before timing out with a "This game session is no longer available"). You're running both of these on your internal network I assume, in which case you might want to look instead at the firewall settings on each PC -- the router won't have anything to do with it.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I made sure the executable was allowed through both machines' firewalls (doublechecked again, yeah they're both allowed) and even tried disabling the XP machine's firewall entirely. I think I forgot to try disabling the Windows 7 machine's firewall though, although you'd imagine if it was in the allowed programs list it wouldn't be a firewall problem.firewall settings
Edit: Nope, everything's disabled, they should both be fine, it's obviously receiving the attempts to communicate with the game due to the bizarre 'empty' player slots that flood the game but for some reason they can't actually join, regardless of which machine makes. XP machine didn't have this issue with XP (or was it Vista?) laptop, so I'm suspecting Outrun 2006 might not work 100% with Windows 7.

KOF2002, one of my friends plays a nasty Kyo, and I usually either a: kill it really quickly and have a really close match and usually lose, or b: get shitwrecked by it. Such pain!

Point Blank's default settings in MAME are pretty annoying. Also, could you guess what Zero Point plays exactly like?
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
It was a good game. Very much so a traditional, old FF type of game. I found Akira Toriyama's character designs made in 3D may have been the best part! The style and graphics are very clean. A little on the easy side (there are harder diffulties) but despite that it was a fun one. The sentiment was brought up around when the game came out, but it reminds you why old FF is classic. Marumaro will crack you up, he's the best.GateofThunderforceIII wrote:What did you think of Blue Dragon?Aquas wrote:finished Blue Dragon, now playing Final Fantasy XIII. I like it a lot. I play some blazblue, though I haven't played much in the past several months. I still need to pick up CSE and see what's up with Ragna.

Lots of Sin & Punishment, Wild Guns and Taroumaru. CONSOLE ACTION PORN in other words. Trying to full-chain S&P on normal, no-miss WG on normal and no-miss Taro on hard with Taroumaru. Tenkai's added range and virtually one-hit possessions make things a lot easier provided you've LEARNED TO PLAY (unlike the wanker who wrote the HG101 ARTICLE - 2X MIDDLE FINGERS to that guy!).

One of the classic RPGs I need to catch up on.
I love the dynamic battle system and the innocent story, but it is a little bit on the long side. I'm about 16 hours in and it's only just getting started plot-wise.

Yay. My hands hurt.
Now I guess I'll start aiming for 100 million. It's going to be hard to get there though, I'll need to get to the 4th loop (or beyond) with pretty much every weapon to stand a chance.

PS. YROGRVLNT's scores in this game are insane. That dude is the Yusemi SWY of NG2.

Again, watching the other half. Mass Effect 3. Either I'm missing something, or it's just a piss poor 3PS with lots of talking. Like Vanquish on valium.

The Punisher. Surprisingly easy for a Capcom beat em up. Funny OTG grab pseudo infinite (grab -> roll -> fire kick -> ground grab, bosses can tech the throw but most of the time they don't) kinda breaks the game.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I am still trying for 100% completion on FFXII (yes yes Order of Ambrosia is Order of Autism I know). Right now I've just unlocked Hell Wyrm and I'm trying to defeat it without cheap stuff like gambits or wait mode - takes a LONG time.
Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Got a no-miss Point Blank score in the last few days, tried it again today - the game is just pissing me off now. Not as badly as Zero Point does, though. MAME's slightly misaligned crosshairs and fiddling with my mouse's sensitivity buttons don't make things easier. Did roll out some neat new highscores for some different events, like hitting all 12 clay pigeons for 7001 points in PB (only 84% accuracy though). Also, Zero Point is a shit game, for real.
I've been messing around with Wasteland in DOSbox, too. I finally did some more stuff in Highpool and recruited JACKIE. My two lead party members are using a MAC-17 and the Uzi Mark 27 just to burn through all that .45 and 9mm ammo you find. Full auto mode is neat, as is blowing up the Hobo Dog stand (and I finally had to learn how to switch to a resting party as a result, to get a member out of the rubble). Too many things foreshadowing Fallout here to count (in fact, what I just described foreshadows both Fallout 2's howitzer and the infamous Iguana Bob).

Real Bout Fatal Fury 2.
Shit, I never really noticed how great this is. The layer switching sure makes things interesting [and then Garou ditched it
], and being late 90s SNK stuff, it's a brilliantly crafted fighter. Except the whole "your super meter drains for no good reason" bit. That's just braindead.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Well my little man has been ill this weekend and sept lots, so I actually got some decent gaming in. Sadly I neglected to go full shmup, and instead played lots of random stuff. Here is some semi-drunk gaming ranting.
So, GameCube. The ONLY machine I ever went to a midnight launch to buy. And I still think it punched way above what it was supposed to. Rogue Squadron still looks amazing now, and bar the resolution isn't that far removed fron a lot of 360 stuff. I mainly played:
F-Zero GX: which shits on 99.9% of current-gen racers, I think since this, only WipeOut HD has felt so buttery smooth, and controllable. Started a new save and smoked every cup on Expert, got creamed on Master. The harder it gets, the more, for me, the combat goes out of the window. Master boils down to staring into middle distance and using your boost to fill the gaps between pads.
Wave Race: Blue Storm: sadly, inferior in every way to the N64 game.
Luigi's Mansion: I want to find every reviewer that marked this down for not being a platform game, and hit them in the face with a brick. It's one of Nintendo's most playful, delightful, inventive, and plain fun games ever, and the sequel has pretty much sold me on the 3DS.
I also started Silent Hill 2. I played it through twice when it first came out on Xbox, and loved it that much that I vowed ti let it fade in my mind as much as possible then I could play it freshly once more. Seven (ish?) years on, I'm doing so, and it's just amazing. Everything about it, from controls, to camera, to sound is so considered, so deliberate, that it's truly saddening to see how the series has declined since. I'm kind of interested in playing Shattered Memories, anyone got any opinions?
Finally, the the first time, firing up the Cube has be really excited for the WiiU. If it garners some decent third party support, and Ninty give me a HD F-Zero and PilotWings, I'm sold.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Worth a playthrough. It's a well-meaning attempt to reprise SH2's human focus after two gratingly derivative rehashes of the cult arc SH3 ended. The gimmicky lack of combat, slightly player-adaptive but ultimately bland environments/monsters, malleable protagonist and goofy "reimagining" angle all ultimately bring it down, but not fatally. It could've easily stood on its own as an original story with a few tweaks here and there.Marc wrote:I'm kind of interested in playing Shattered Memories, anyone got any opinions?
I'm playing Downpour now, and it seems much the same... I have to give it credit for not just rehashing old material, but aesthetically and dramatically it's been clearly inferior to KCET's games so far, making me want to just replay SH1-4 (as I do every few years anyway).

Last Blade 2 1cc get.
I've been playing this for a few days. I was practicing with Hibiki and the Shinsengumi guys, but I was always getting my ass kicked by the last boss. Then I pick Akari just for laughs and I make it to the final boss. On the next credit I beat the game.
Akari has some great normal attacks and her special move is SO easy to connect against the CPU. Was really surprised at how quickly I was winning the fights.
By the way, anyone knows how to unlock Musashi on the arcade version?

Boo, Crossbow (the first lightgun shooter in MAME!) does not have a loop, like Chiller. Not gonna grind through missions until I beat a million points...not today, anyway.

Just working on clearing a small but amusing text adventure game called Child's Play. Nowhere near the insane difficulty of Zork or anything, but it's still pretty good, and there's apparently a commentary track you can enable if you replay the game for more amusement.

VVVVVV [3DS].
Pretty fun, but seems a bit easier than it probably should be, due to the fact that there's next to no penalty for getting hurt.
Tons of instakill stuff everywhere, but when you're only sent to the start of the current screen or the end of the last one, you're just back where you started until you get past it.
Great concept though, and some of the screens have given me a bit of trouble, having no way out but the right way [read: the ones that wrap], and having a relatively long sequence to clear before getting another checkpoint.
Also, fuck how much inertia you have after landing, it doesn't feel right in this kind of game. You slide for quite a bit after releasing the button, which is about 40% of what difficulty this game has. It's like, "yeah, I landed... oh ass balls, slid to my death".

I grabbed the Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP off Steam for $6.
It's an incredibly awesome little adventure/discovery game, with unbelievably gorgeous pixel graphics and phenomenal music. And Twitter integration?? I don't have a Twitter any more
Oh you get the 27 track soundtrack included for $6 as well.
It's the same indie studio (from Toronto yay!) that was just showing off Mega Time Force at PAX East.

Tales of the Abyss [3DS].
Just fought the boss of that sand temple outside Chesedonia, my first two attempts were me getting killed really badly, and then this attempt went way too smoothly. Like, I barely even tried. I even left the dungeon to stack up on items for the fight, and they ended up mostly unused.
