The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
If that's just the largest currently available, that's reasonable for a semiconductor memory format. It would just be lulz-worthy if 4GB were the ultimate upper limit of a mass storage protocol created in 2011.
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Well after trying out the Vita today I'm very interested in the device, but I do have questions for those who own the Vita:
* Can you get on the Japanese PSN store with a western Vita?
The reason is that I want to pick up some of the Japan only PSP titles like the Salamander/Gradius/Parodius packs, etc. and I believe for those I can only get it on the Japanese PSN store. I don't even know if they are on the Japanese PSN store, but I heard you can download them from some place.
I read this official blog from Sony:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/02/ ... o-ps-vita/
* Is the Star Soldier collection on the US PSN store? I ask because on the blog it has Super Star Soldier and Solider Blade on the PSP list.
I never own a PS3 before or a PSP, but what I want to do with the Vita is to play the Vita titles and also play some of the PSP games that I didn't play. I mostly want to get the Konami shooting game packs and some other shmups that I miss out on. If you guys can help then great!
I'm waiting for later in the year for deals so I don't have to pay too much for memory cards.

Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Yes, but you can only switch PSN accounts by wiping/unregistering the system, losing all your settings and anything in onboard storage. Memory cards are also tied to PSN accounts, so you'll practically need one memory card per PSN account if you don't also want to lose all your saves/content (not sure if that can be backed up to PC/PS3 and restored instead of swapping cards).Domino wrote:* Can you get on the Japanese PSN store with a western Vita?

Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Ok. Might be too much trouble than it is worth. Would be nice to have some cheap shmups on the go.Ex-Cyber wrote:Yes, but you can only switch PSN accounts by wiping/unregistering the system, losing all your settings and anything in onboard storage. A deal that I don't have to pay full price for a memory card. What kind of deals do you mean?
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
I think there may actually be a way to have more than one account but only a single memory card:
sauce: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... tcount=209Everyone seems to think you can't use content from two PSN accounts on Vita without having two memory cards. I decided to try it for myself.
I'm pleased to report that it's not true.
This morning I connected to both the US and Japanese PSN Stores and downloaded content from both. I did not switch memory cards (I only have one), or reformat the memory card.
I am logged on with my main US account and all the content from both regions is playable.
The way I did it is still a bit of a pain, but unlike the two cards method, you only need to do mine once, and at the end everything is on one card and playable under your main account. The only limitation I've found is that I get a message telling me that I will be unable to earn trophies on the Japanese content when I start playing it from my US account.
For those of you playing at home, here's what I did:
DISCLAIMER: You might want to backup your memory card first. You really don't need to, but if you do this wrong you could wipe your card which would suck.
Choose Settings > Format > Restore the PS Vita System
Select Restore.
You'll be asked if you want to deactivate the system from your account first.
Yes, you do want that.
Wait. Deactivation occurs.
Select Restore again.
This time you'll be asked if you want to format your memory card during the restore process.
No, you do NOT want to do that.
The restore process completes leaving your card contents intact.
Set your language & timezone.
Choose to sign in with your Japanese (or whatever other region) PSN account.
The unskippable Vita intro movie plays. Make a sandwich.
Download Japanese content from the Store (or from your PS3) onto the Vita.
When you're done, follow this process again, from the top, but choose to sign in with your main account. Remember to Activate your Vita for Games when you're signed back in.
That's it.
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Thanks.
Who is on the Japanese PSN on their Vitas?
I'm leaning more on that route because of more shmup support. Then again if I play a US game and it needs to be something from US PSN then I'm screwed.
And man the Yen is killing the dollar. 5000 yen is like $80+.

Re: PS Vita Western Launch
I was in the Vodafone store yesterday sorting out some phone bizness, and I noticed they were selling Vitas. I asked the guy behind the counter if they were popular to which he snapped, "No."
I quizzed him and he said they had sold two since launch (I know it's a phone shop but... two) and from a sales perspective it's an utter failure.
It was an interesting conversation, anyone got updated figures for global Vita sales?

No new global sales, and I doubt we'll get them for a while - Sony is gonna want to keep a lid on them.
New Japan sales are pretty yikes though:

You mean after that $6.5 billion loss Sony has just posted recently? I wouldn`t bet on it.Skykid wrote:Those figures are horrific. Looks like that price drop could be coming sooner than I thought.
The price drop isn`t going to do much for the Vita anyway. Not unless it`s backed by some compelling software.
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Madeupchartz says that Vita is currently selling roughly the same global weekly number as Wii (~70,000, which is pretty low), and is doing best in Europe.
And no, I don't see a quick price drop coming either. Sony has 6.4 Billion reasons not to sell it at a loss

I actually ordered one of these. 193 Euro for a Vita, game, and memory stick. I don't care about the lack of games because DJ Max Technika will come out eventually, and by half a year to a year, units still won't be this price.

Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Picked up Uncharted GA and Blazblue CSEX.
Uncharted is good if a bit gimmicky so far, and BB seems alright even though I'm terrible at it. Too bad BB's menus/UI weren't redesigned with the Vita's capabilities in mind. Currently eyeing Unit 13 and Disgaea 3 as my next Vita game purchases.
Pretty good deal for anyone who can order stuff from Amazon Germany.
Vita sales in Japan should spike up a bit the next two weeks, due to Golden Week. And I'd expect the 360 to continue being above the PS2 during that time as well.

Same here. Just bought a US Vita(cheaper than the PAL ones) with a 16Gb memory stick in an online store an hour ago. Should be delivered tomorrow. I must say I`m quite excited, especially about its PSP functionality. From what I`ve seen, PSP games look gorgeous on Vita`s OLED and the second analog stick should help a lot with some games. Really looking forward to replaying Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, MGS: Peace Walker, Ys 7, Cladun 1-2 and many others. Haven`t ordered any Vita games yet, but I`m planning on getting Shinobido 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Disgaea 3, Gravity Daze and Ragnarok Odyssey soon.Elixir wrote:I actually ordered one of these.

It cost me the equivalent of €282 for everything. And that`s the absolute cheapest you can get it around here. The prices for stand-alone Vita Wi-Fi units range between €300 and €400.Elixir wrote:So you paid less than 193 Euro for that? I'm finding that kind of hard to believe.
It doesn`t. The backwards compatibility with the PSP is through PSN only.Nate wrote:Does it play UMD's?

Those prices are worse than NZ's! And NZ is shit when it comes to games. 280 Euro (449 NZD) and 342 Euro (550 NZD) for the Wifi and 3G versions, respectively.Jonathan Ingram wrote:It cost me the equivalent of €282 for everything. Someday I'll get a regular PSP, and I have The 3rd Birthday waiting for when I do.
Re: PS Vita Western Launch
Many of these early Vita games suit niche markets. Shinobido is a series that, outside Japan, is targeted towards a select audience. Folks should definitely check a few videos online and see how it plays. I bought the Vita version and it's just as I expected, albeit with a somewhat worse camera. I probably wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't part of a "buy 2, get 1 free" promotion though. There's no reason to get Ninja Gaiden on Vita unless you don't have the PS3 version or are a big enough fan that you need the extra costumes.
And speaking of poorly rated Vita games, I think Ridge Racer is solid. I still say that nitrous ruined Ridge Racer mechanics but at least the slipstream effects here are much reduced from the 3DS version. What it's lacking in content (not really evident after the Gold Pass and in-release Silver Pass), RR makes up for in solid racing and competition. Even WipEout 2048 suffers from overly sensitive analog controls; RR has no such issues. RR doesn't have any offline modes that require hours of play but that's probably better for those of us lacking free time.

Re: PS Vita Western Launch
I don't plan on getting a Vita, but this thread got me interested. If I were to get one the main opportunity to play it would be at work during my lunch break. But I work in an environment where I need to hold a security clearance, and all types of cameras are banned. Including camera phones and apparently PS Vita's. So even if I change my mind I'll be screwed anyway.
Does anyobody have a good explanation for why every fucking device needs to have a camera on it nowadays???? I don't see the point. Any game that utilizes it is just going to be gimmicky bullshit.
