BIGGEST PROBLEM FOR FIRST TIME USERS. thinking of freaking out.

You really need to let yourself go. That's why I road trip somewhere to do them. If I do them somewhere in town i'm always afraid of meeting someone I know and having to deal with the awkwardness. people say it's better to do them with a partner, but i disagree. people usually bug me so i do them alone in the woods, like crater lake. if i see something i don't like i walk away and that's my crutch; walking. for a good trip 5-7 grams is necessary. anything less you get a intense body high, which is a waste of mushrooms imo.

I've done them twice indoors and both times were bad trips. I shit all over the toilet once (MDMA and rotten carrots were involved) and the other time was boring as hell.

Goddamn women.

I'm still dating whether or not I should ask the geologist outagain.
For some reason people think I'm funny. Most of my jokes are self depreciating or incredibly contrived and predictable. Anyways I don't think that's attractive to a woman and I'm my biggest critic. Shit is terrible

The answer is obvious, then: You have to do the opposite of your gut reaction... and don't be self-deprecating. Ask a girl to do something for you. So, where are you taking me to lunch? I'm starving. Hahah 8)

Wow, you are kind of close to me, I'm in the Barley Bandits from the OC. I want to go to the homebrew fest in Lake Casitas but don't have enough time bleah. If you are ever in the OC CMoon, lemme know we could meet up for a beer/play some shmups. Yesterday was a busy day for me, me and my fiancee:

Bottled 5 gallons of American Red Ale (Akai Katana aka Red Katana Ale) all hopped with Cascade (I waited another week like you said! Final gravity of 1.010, good attenuation!) It tasted much better than my usual extract brews. More malty sugar flavor and I detected very little of that of that extract twang/alkaline/musty plant taste.
Bottled 1 gallon of Meadowfoam Mead (Pink Sweets).
Racked 5 gallons of Orange Blossom Mead to secondary. This is going to be racked to 5x 1 gallon jugs for various mead flavorings/experiments, then named. (I'm thinking Mushimesama Futari Black Label mead, something like this, http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/brewing ... ndex7.html heh)
Brewed 1 gallon of Clover Honey (Crimzon Clover) to make mead. As you can tell, I love mead and shmups. It is so easy! I just put the honey with some water and then pitch the yeast. I always try to brew up a mead or Ed Wort's apfelwein when I have a fermenter open on brewday/racking to secondary day.

I opened a bottle I saved of the first beer I brewed...delicious.

Now I have a 5 gallon carboy open. I think I'm going to research American Wheat/Spring Ale for some session beer!

nvm. too tired to drink.
I have terrible tinnitus after driving all day and I haven't talked to anyone either, so my voice is all raspy and low key. awkwardness is not hitting the streets tonight.

RNG, I'll probably be in Seattle monday or tuesday. imma tear shit up again and play galuda II very hungover.

A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS

If I ever head south (like i always talk about), we will drink!

I think I am in some shitty neighborhood. I walked to the 7-11 and there was some bitch in there wearing a some god awful boots with an ugly ass hoodie buying 40s.
Then again, I'm wearing a tie dye shirt with grey jeans and a grey hoodie. Buying orange juice and clif bars at 10pm :/
There was one guy mopping in the convenient store who reminded me of Komaku.
It feels like I'm in the twilight zone. This feeling usually happens when I skip meals. I've only eaten a mushroom burger 3 hours ago and various power bars throughout the day.

I thought i was going to see hipsters or something. meh. I should have gone hiking.

We should play a Celtic Frost drinking game, actually. Every time Tom says "UGH!" or "Hey!", you take a drink.

Frenetic> Actually I visit OC relatively frequently (there are some great brewers there), and I'm going to the SoCal homebrew festival if you make it.

Funny you mention mead; now that I've moved to brewing in kegs I realized I have about 3 carboys and 3 buckets I could fill up with mead. Sitting on 30 gallons of mead would be nice.

"Monsters aren't real" is said by parents who've never found the tooth of a megalodon washed up on the beach. Or maybe it's not such a lie, since the species of shark has long been dead but the phrase alludes to the existence of 'monsters' as a fairy tale. If it were true, how boring existence would be. I think once you look at the relics of these forgotten terrors and really open your mind to them you broaden your understanding of the realm of possibility. Enormous beasts once roamed the land and since that is true of our world, it could be true of any.

Remember that we used to think the Earth was flat and that the sun revolved around us? That shows you how fundamentally wrong we can be. Now take into account that the Earth is only populated with carbon based lifeforms, limiting our understanding of the basics of life since they are the only example we have to go by. What other ways could a sentience develop? Life flourishes at temperatures of over 400 degrees in our own oceans, to show you it's versatility.

Thanks to Keppler, we have confirmed 763 extrasolar planets as of today, many of which are Earth-like and there's still a possibly infinite amount to come. Even though I'll never see one of them in my lifetime, just thinking about it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store.

This isn't about impressing you or sounding smart. It's about how there is more to life than what we've been handed and questioning what you've been taught and told. Really think about it. We've spent plenty of time thinking small, it's time to think BIG. The answer to all of our problems has been floating directly about our heads this entire time.

If there are 105 ways to use a peanut imagine the shit we could do with Mars.

Here ya go CMoon, pardon the wall of text but I love reading and writing. Here's a rule of thumb for how I brew my mead.

Sanitize your carboys normally like how you'd brew beer. People boil their water to sterilize but since honey has antiseptic properties, I just warm it up enough so I can mix the honey well into the water to create the must (wort). Which honeys to use? You want to maybe go to a farmer's market, get their card and ask about buying honey in bulk. People have also gone to Costco and gotten mead in bulk there. Good honeys to use are Orange Blossom and Clover, etc. Ones to stay away from (at least for right now, because they take years to age) Avocado and Eucalyptus. I'm sending you Joe's Ancient Orange Mead recipe which is a great starting one.

Here's a rough measurement.

For a dry mead: 2 pounds per 1 gallon
For a regular mead: 3 pounds per 1 gallon
For a sweet mead: 4 pounds per 1 gallon

I warm the honey containers in hot water so they'll pour easier, then I put some water in the jugs/bottles to rinse them out. I don't boil my mead because I think it destroys the flavor. I tasted mine recently and they weren't infected. But be extra careful about sanitizing all of your equipment, I use Star San and I don't fear the foam, I just pitch onto it, etc. No off flavors. Measure your Original Gravity.

Add yeast nutrient as per directions (this step is vital because honey is nitrogen poor) and/or yeast energizer.

Then pitch your yeast (I like to use Lalvin champagne yeast, I used Red Star Montrechet for my Crimzon Clover mead, but White Labs has their yeast and I'm sure that's great) Put a wet towel soaked in sanitzer over the mouth of the carboy and shake up the carboy up real good to oxygenate it. Then put on your airlock. The mead doesn't get super active like beer (i.e. a very small krausen and no blow off tube needed).

People say to let primary go for 2 weeks, but I like to let it go for 3 or 4 just to make sure. Again, check airlock activity. Then rack to secondary (taste it, it'll be really hot but will taste like a real mead in 5-6 months). At this point you can split your 5 gallon batch into 5 1-gallon jugs with different flavorings/juices/adjuncts to make melomel, pyment, braggot, etc. At this point you need to be very careful about infection since it's secondary and the chance of reinfection is a lot higher, IMHO. If you're using fruit you need a lot of it. Hard candies and schnapps are great, last year one of my mead mentors won with Red Hots that won a blue ribbon. Just be careful of the ratio so you don't overpower the mead. The flavoring should compliment, not obliterate the delicate honey flavors. Remember that this'll restart the fermentation process so let it ferment out before you bottle, if you plan to you can split off the 1 gallon experimental batches when you rack from primary. The longer you wait, the better it will get. The key to mead is patience patience patience. Your group the Maltose Falcons have a lot of great mead makers, they'll be able to talk to you more about mead.

I remember tasting one of the award winning meads at the OC Fair last year. It was like a sip of sunshine from a bottle. I think what we do as homebrewers is alchemy. Magic.

Cheers,

Sure, I'm down with this. Maybe we could meet at Hollingshead's or The Bruery Provisions in Orange? PM me guys and we could hang out and have a couple of pints/trade homebrew/trade cellared beers. I'd love to talk about shmups/video games and knock a couple back. PM me if interested and let's get something going!

Nothing like multiple servings of Top Ramen and Bombay Sapphire to prepare one for Interop Hot Stage 2012, bitches.

What? You're stupid enough to think I'm a bit nervous about spending several 12-hour shifts racking and cabling equipment for one of the most prominent IT trade shows on the planet (used to have its own /8 prior to IPv4 exhaustion)? Nonsense. I'm just boozing it up because I haven't quite gotten to the point where I still feel like I'm floating a bit even after I fall into bed. Yeah, that's it.

At least I get to stay at Mandalay Bay for the actual show setup, even if I won't have any free time to take advantage of the more luxurious amenities or fuck around on The Strip. :D

Okay, I think it's safe to say that that was officially one GIN (and tonic) too many. Operation SLEEP IT OFF engaged.
