Thanks for posting this
About time I played a Fallout game.

Haha, server is getting murdered. I'll check back later. Never played this - not really looking forward to trying actually, I heard the interface has made the game age pretty badly and I have a big pile of games I haven't touched yet.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

I think the key is to simply "add" it to ones account before the free period ends. Once attached to the account it will remain on to download at any later time.Drum wrote:Haha, server is getting murdered. I'll check back later. Thanks for the heads-up all the same, I've never owned a copy of Fallout so now is my chance.

Nice! I own Fallout, but it's nice to have a digital copy as well. Never know when your disc might take a shit!
<@scootnet> if you were a real gamer, you could jerk it to Super Metroid box art
Re: Fallout 1 available for free at GoG
Fallout 1 and 2 are amazing games. I certainly prefer them to the newer iterations, but I do enjoy those as well. Fallout 2 starts off pretty damn hard. If you kinda just jump into the games on your first try they can be quite punishing, so it's best to save lots and expect to die. They can be frustrating, but damn, are they good.

I have Fallout 1 from GOG.com, but I would gladly get a digital copy of Fallout 2, even though I owned the CD version already.

Re: Fallout 1 available for free at GoG
I got hold of this after Kaiser telling me about this release by GOG.com, and several fellow gamers jizzing on about how good the Fallout series is.
Honestly I got yet another of those bad impressions that put me off RPGs. Drum actually has a point this time around - the interface is terrible. Other than that and the ragequit after pissing off the guards at Junktown for no apparent reason and getting blasted to death, it's good.

Interface is still good.
This game will never age.

Re: Fallout 1 available for free at GoG
Fallout 1 is a bona fide classic, and trust me, usually I hate any form of turn-based fighting. Fallout 2 is great aswell but all the tribal stuff just seemed a bit not in the same mood as Fallout 1...

Good question.Drum wrote:What the fuck is THIS supposed to mean? >:(BPzeBanshee wrote: Drum actually has a point this time around
heh, heh, digital property
I've got the disc whenever I need it. Sometime I should buy the big box version just for ol' times sake.

When I'm done mowing the lawn today and have nothing better to do I'll go and learn2play. The hold-right-click-to-do-friggin-anything part really doesn't sit well with me but once I catch up to where I was and learn2savemoreoften I think I'll adjust.
Not that it really needs it but is there some kind of modern engine equivalent to GzDoom for the original Fallout?
Re: Fallout 1 available for free at GoG
Why would you need a modern engine for Fallout, unless your graphics card / monitor don't have aspect correcting options?
I wasted an hour or two here and there making use of the economy bug in Fallout trading, it's not that big a deal to use the interface even for really tedious stuff like that.
By the by, I just got ahold of Wasteland and started fooling around with it. I feel kinda dumb for putting the speed slider to max, because now all the cool battle messages disappear before I can read 'em
Although, I was recording with DOSBox...maybe I can look at them there. I hope I can figure out how to reset the combat text speed though.

There's that factor (it does stretch on my widescreen monitor but it doesn't look bad at all that way and there's no way in hell I'm changing anything in CCC in case I wreck anything else), but I was thinking along the lines of XL Engine where controls for Dark Forces are a hell of a lot better than they were originally. The trading interface looked straightforward though - drag here, drop there. That I liked, but really it's the switch between movement and the options cursor you get by right-clicking that's really offputting at the moment. I think I'll get used to it sooner or later.Ed Oscuro wrote:Why would you need a modern engine for Fallout, unless your graphics card / monitor don't have aspect correcting options?
Also was expecting something better from a "Chris Taylor"-directed project, but upon doing some research the one who worked on this is different from the one who made Total Annihilation (which came out in the same year and I fucking LOVE that interface). Silly me. I'll go and learn2play now.
