Turns out the only reason he's getting so many multicolored cabs is to make his orange astro2 feel more accepted?chempop wrote:That's one of the coolest looking cab line-ups I've ever seen. I don't care if the orange Astro2 gets crap, I like it! Just think how great it would be to have a yellow cab and green cab next to those guys, it would be candy flavored yumminess!

I think it's really cool, actually. One of the first cabs I saw when I started looking for one myself.Dave_K. wrote:I didn't learn about this being a rare Astro 2 model until afterwards, and felt like an idiot. Live and learn. I'll restore it back to original white one of these days.
I finally figured out a comfortable set up for my astro.
my room is a mess ATM. I've been really busy and too tired to care about cleaning it up. Haven't even had time to play any games for the past few weeks (hence the shit all over the CP).

If Rule #1 of owning a Candy is "Do not paint your Candy", then I think Rule #2 should be: "Do not use your Candy as furniture"

It's all about stealth. Looking at my row of cabinets you'd be hard pressed to pick out the one that's running MAME.kernow wrote:No mame or consoles rigged up.
Bottom line is NO candy cab should be gutted and re-purposed as a console or purely MAME setup. That's what big plywood monstrosities are for.
I justify it by having the cabinet with a MAME box in it fitted with dual-JAMMA harnesses. This way I can easily play my PCBs on it too.
Bad MAME setups give the whole idea a bad rap. Just look at the "Too Close" threads. It's about the games really...not which side you're on.
I find that I get to play MORE games of BETTER quality using all available resources. Consoles, PCBs, MAME, etc...
Just my $.02...
(and I feel compelled to defend my MAME cabinet

I could steal a doctors stool... but something about "used stool" bugs me.
I bet It'd be a healthy stool though... with all that sitting doctors do.
Its an idea

Ideally, you don't want to be sitting on someone else's used stool as those are typically too hard, but rather try for your own new/fresh stool that will simply mold to your bottom when you sit on it! ~_^

Having a soft comfortable stool will make all the difference. And contrary to belief, you'll appreciate that new stool smell over an old hard stool. ^_~

Over at Ikea, they sell the perfect sized stools for your candy cab gaming needs, the Marius which is only 17 3/4" in height:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10135659/
Add a handy cushy pad to place on top of it and it'll definitely mold to your bottom indeed. Over the years, the Marius stool has been sold under different names and slighty different styles but sized just right height-wise for your candy cab(s). Some time back, Target used to sell those cool foldable cushioned 17" stools with a handy back brace for leaning back on (for extra back support)...those are worth their weight in gold.
For the ultimate gaming stool, there's none better than an original Japanese gaming stool (i.e -- Taito's own leather gaming stool comes to mind) like those seen in them world-famous game centers like HEY! and the like. Every once in a great while, a sale thread will pop up for an Japanese gaming stool which'll sell out like hotcakes. Add a complimentary "stolen" game center cigarette ashtray + a proper Japanese gaming stool = the best way to be gaming in grand "candy cab" style.
There was one arcade that I used to patronize back in the mid-1980s and into the early 1990s called Cal's-R-Cade based out of Modesto, CA, that had plently of bar stools for playing in comfort with those Dynamo based woody cabs. Sure beat having to stand up for those serious arcade gaming sessions with a handy cushy bar stool any ol' day.

i got mine from a taito station in shibuya around some slot-machines with nobody around.
i'm curious what these security people think seeing white-guys desperately stuffing these into their pockets like they were gold.
on a sidenote: i begged in several taito stations personally if they could sell these or tell me where to get one legally. i was even personally at taito offices to ask. with no result.

Anyone up for organizing some fights on 2DF/GGPO then (dependent on location obviously)? I play a tad Third Strike and SSF2 Turbo. I can play CE or HF if desired. I have a 360 TE stick.

This thread makes me happy and sad at the same time. I had to sell my Versus City cab a while ago. Now that I am looking for another Candy Cab I can't find anything. I wish I could find a Capcom OOB 50. That would be killer
