Ico/SotC HD and Dead Space Extraction HD are much improved over the originals
As I previously mentioned, Ico/SotC are far from greatly improved over the originals. In fact, if you have the originals, there's no real need to buy the HD updates: they could have done a lot more to refine them.
SotC on PS2 had serious framerate issues. Could they have done more? Sure. Was it still a great improvement? Without doubt.
It didn't impress me enough to feel the originals were made defunct, which they should have done.
CMoon's point is that you're including PS2 games as PS3 exclusives, which is to say, they're original works. Revise the list into one with games people actually care about and take out the last gen updates.
Then do the same list for 360 just so we know we can have an unbiased discussion with you.
@Skykid
I am not interested in discussing which console has a superior list of exclusives. The topic of this thread isn't PS3 vs 360, either (even if you'd like to turn it into that). I simply proved that PS3's list is not "very small". That is all.

'B' fits me pretty well, but that's kind of besides the point. The OP asked for opinions on exclusives for the PS3, not a defense or catalog of every exclusive that's been made, which is precisely what I did.
I don't know if you've noticed, but in general this is a 'friendly' forum where most people are comfortable sharing their opinions without having someone blast them like they're on gamefaqs. Also, some of the most opinionated people here (like Skykid) will be thrilled to share at length why they are opinionated, not accuse you of trolling.

Yeah, I can see rather a lot of games in the list that if you're buying a PS3 for you have some serious taste issues. Golfing games? PS Move games? "Start the Party!" and "Carnival Island"? "Super Rub 'a' Dub" (wtf is this a sex game edit: no it's apparently about ducks or something and motion controls)?
Also, Catan is just a videogame port of a board game, and it's not even a PS3 exclusive really; there's a good port of Settlers of Catan available for Xbox 360 on the arcade which is the exact same board game.

Why did you edit your original response, it was better/less combative.
I've got no intention of turning any thread into a console war, I'm just preventing

Serious recommendations that haven't been made so far? Aquanaut's Holiday, for sure. Might be an acquired taste, but I found it utterly compelling and hypnotic. One of the best chillout games around. The Asian version has English text, if you need it.
I didn't accuse you of trolling. First you stated that "the number of exclusives is very small" for PS3, which is simply factually incorrect. Later you clarified that this only meant games "[YOU] CARE ABOUT".
However, considering there are quite a few exclusive PS3 games that are generally considered to be pretty good, it's a bit hard to believe that out of all those games you found merely three to enjoy. But hey, it's your opinion. It's just an opinion that most people do not share. In a topic asking for advice about good PS3 games by someone new to the system a reply akin to "there are only three, look no further" seemed unfitting, which I took the liberty of pointing out. Nothing more. Peace.
I don't regret my purchase of 3d Dot Game Heroes a single bit. It's a beautiful Zelda clone just like it wants to be.
I agree with everyone posting about Demon's and Dark Souls. Start with Demon's though, it's a freakin' masterpiece even when playing offline. Best game on PS3 if you ask me, but I love a good challenge.
I'd also like to recommend Dead Space 2, since the PS3 version comes with a copy of Extraction in HD. There is also Resident Evil 4 HD in the downloadable dept.
Note that only the limited edition of Dead Space 2 for PS3 came with Dead Space Extraction HD (on the disc). It can be purchased seperately on PSN, though.
Resistance 3 is a really fun FPS game. The two previous titles aren't bad, but are fairly average by all accounts. Honestly, I would just skip straight to the third one, which has some really awesome set pieces and amazing weapons (fully specced out shotgun, oh man).
Infamous is fun. Not on the level of Crackdown, but an enjoyable open world action game nonetheless. Haven't played the sequel and I don't know what the word is on it.
Played through the new Twisted Metal just last week. I guess it's more of an online game on the whole (didn't touch this part at all), but I played through the single player campaign in co-op with a buddy and we enjoyed our time with it. There's no tutorial at the beginning and it pretty much puts you in the thick of things right at the start, so there's a bit of a learning curve to it.
Heavy Rain. I love adventure games, and while this one is more focused on QTEs than actual problem solving, I really enjoyed it. It's definitely worth a play through.

I'm pretty sure I went through some tutorial when I tried the demo.
Razing Storm - Namco had me at Razing Storm, but really sweetened the deal with Deadstorm Pirates and a Move-compatible version of Time Crisis 4 arcade mode. And if you don't have the Move but DO have the Guncon 3, you can use that. Namco actually considered putting RS on 360 as well, but nixed the plan when they understood Kinect had no controller.
House of the Dead 4 - It's about time. Let's hope Sega gets Virtua Cop 3, Rambo, and Operation GHOST (GHOST Squad 2) brought over also. Hell, maybe even GHOST Squad and LA Machineguns. Sure there's a great port of LAM on the Wii, but a Move version given a HD treatment would be nice.
Ruldra wrote:I'm pretty sure I went through some tutorial when I tried the demo.
That might be. Like I said, we played it in co-op from the beginning. Two seconds in to the first stage and you had cars shooting you to bits and ramming in to you and we didn't even know how to accelerate.
On the matter of racing games, I picked up Motorstorm Apocalypse yesterday for 10 euros new. Really enjoyed the first two (Pacific Rift being superior in every shape and form). Can't wait to dig in to third one.
First I'll just reiterate what other people have said, which is that Demon's Souls is a must-play. Dark Souls is also must-play, though it's not exclusive to the PS3. I liked it better in many ways than Demon's Souls -- for starters, it's such a gigantic world, and not as strictly divided into distinct stages -- but others in this thread seem to prefer the first game. Honestly it's not much of a contest, both games are fantastic.
Going over the other games in my collection, I don't have any other exclusives other than Disgaea 3, which is worth picking up if you like Disgaea, or if you like tactical RPGs but haven't played Disgaea.
As for non-exclusive titles you may have missed, though, may I recommend:
Resonance of Fate (called End of Eternity in Japan): This JRPG came out the same week as FFXIII, which probably hurt its buzz and sales quite a lot. The setting is pretty cool: a polluted, dystopian Earth where a computer decides who lives and who dies on a giant tower away from the polluted surface of the world. The combat system is a very unique, and takes place in 3rd-person dungeons. Combat is simultaneous-time, so enemies move while you do and can interrupt your attacks. Weapons are pistols, machine guns and grenades. Machine guns deal lots of damage, but only 'chip' damage. A hit has to be scored with a pistol or grenade to make the chip damage real. There's more to it... hero moves, weapon upgrades. Watch some gameplay videos. My biggest criticism of the game is that the world is rather drab the whole way through. It can be graphically impressive at times, and the dull colours fit the setting, but it can still get fairly repetitive by the time you reach the bottom levels of the tower.
Vanquish: Fantastic cover shooter. The difference between Vanquish and Gears of War is one of speed. In Vanquish, especially on the harder difficulties, if you're not in motion you're dead within seconds. You can't just sit in cover forever -- enemies will flank you, throw grenades, snipe you from the side. Over-the-top action the entire way through the game.
Catherine: Great puzzle game from the makers of the Persona series. Relationship drama may or may not be your thing, but the puzzle game itself is a unique take on Q*bert. Really unlike anything I'd played before, and very tough on hard mode. There are also randomized towers that are insanely tough to climb, and co-op, so it has a lot of longevity.

It is uncensored? Hmm. May need to replace my X360 version. This game is the best for making house guests uncomfortable.

Well, the 360 version comes with the censored angles (I think). Can you view all the camera angles during the "dokidoki mode"

Yeah, full view. The only spots that were censored were things like the white box over the blue haired girls panties when you have to keep her on the ladder.

How did you get the full view mode I bought the game and it came with the censored, limited camera angle view...

I'll have to double check. I remember having pretty much free reign in Doki Doki, just no elsewhere.

People bought PS3 consoles just to play that game. It is unfathomably huge, there are several hours of good cutscenes included and some seriously whacky humour. Awesome soundtrack and excellent voice acting too, even though the game was kinda drawn out at the end it was still leagues ahead of anything else.
Killzone 2 is another decent FPS, not much in the way of story though. It's kinda like a darker "Halo", where everyone drops the f-bomb at least twice in every sentence. Killzone 3 was OK- though where Killzone 2 had some pretty brilliant and flowing dialogue, Killzone 3 was the exact opposite.
IDK. I would have thought that if you owned a PS3, then by default you have to own MGS4- because that game is a rememberable experience in itself, something a lot of other games lack these days. You can find it cheap (like $15) usually as a re-released "classic" title (same game, just comes in a red plastic case instead of the usual white plastic). If you're lucky, I know a few places were purging the collectors edition for absurdly low prices ($20)- which is when I picked up my copy. Only difference is that the CE comes with a Bluray/Making Of and a partial soundtrack.
Personally, I found 3D Dot Game Heroes to be mediocre. It copies mechanics from Zelda, but forgets to include any genuine personality. There's also a fairly major failing in the implementation of those mechanics, in that the use of item/weapon upgrades is *very* limited and never transforms the gameplay or navigation through previously-explored areas in the way that the Zelda games do.

I found out that was true after I posted as well. I guess I've just never seen a 360 copy.
Anyway, it is a great game though. It does play alot like Gears if Gears had good controls. You move through the environments very easy, which is good because the controls were my major complaint about the Gears series. I'd always get stuck on walls I didn't mean to go to for cover and the whole series just feels super clunky. Vanquish is much smoother than that. Don't expect much out of the characters and story though, it's paper thin just like everything else these days. The satellite metropolis you are fighting in is more of a character than anything, it's a pretty cool game world.
