Star Fox 64 and Gradius V related to one another?

Post by popawell »

In the first final words of the last gradius V boss:

I was once part of what was known as venom.

I have always wondered this. If you look at the small ships you have to distroy in Star Fox 64, they resemble the same ships that appear in the gradius games. Also the true form of andross (final boss of SF64) was a giant brain, like in most of if not all the gradius games. Perhaps the air wings of the Star Fox team will fly with the Lord British and Vic Viper some day? Who knows.

It's not a connection, you obviously haven't played the MSX Gradius series.

Venom was once a renouned Gradius scientist who attempted to overthrow the planet with a coup'd'etat. He failed. He was exiled to Sard (Similar to Andross in a way, I know) and made a deal with the Bacterians, becoming one of them.

And for the record, Gradius 2 MSX (Venom's origin) was before Star Fox.

There's another version on the hardest difficulty, at least in the original--this weird horned demon thing. I haven't had an N64 to play the sequel.

Yes, Konami seems to always pay respect to their MSX games.

The opening of Gradius IV is the ending of Gradius 2 MSX, but rendered in full glorious 3D :D

Would be kinda cool if Konami and Nintendo got together and made Starfox: The Gradius War (or some corny name like that).

Maybe Nintendo is paying homage to Gradius with those little ships?

I'd say it's possible Star Fox 64 got some inspiration from the Gradius series, it's just kinda subtle if you ask me.

I am pretty sure he starts off that way. A ways into the battle though he is reduced to something resembling a brain with eye balls attached (if memory serves. )

True, I haven't played any of the msx gradius games >_<. And I haven't played any of the sequels of Star Fox 64 either (hits head on computer desk). But it does make you wonder though, we have seen insparations from gradius in a few other games maybe Star Fox 64 is also?
Also in the true fight with andross he is a giant head then redused to a giant brain. I played the game just last week (with a boken controoler >_<).
