Are those plastic protectors archival-grade? Meaning they won't emit gases to discolor the boxes. Blocking UV light would be a plus too. (Serious question.)

I got a Ninja Kun: Ashura no Shou for Famicom, by UPL! It is in much better shape than I was expecting, just a few dings on the box but amazingly good shape for a game that never appears. This is a newer release than I thought - 1988. The game it is based off is a few years older. I haven't seen anything past a few screenshots, but it seems like a much less troublesome way to play the game than dealing with the PCB version's suiciding sound CPU.

I got them from the guy who runs this site:

http://www.videogameboxprotectors.com/

States that they are:

-PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
-Acid Free and Ligind Free
-Safe for long term storage
-New, flat & unfolded
-Clear & Lightweight storage boxes

Don't know about UV protection, but I keep them in a shelving unit with doors that do not allow light in.

Not that hard to fix, just needs an undecrypted CPU and a rom swap.

there is slight UV protection in PET plastics, its also enviromentally friendly :)

(i make my box protectors out of PET aswell).
they look very nice but i have to say from your pics the fit looks slightly off? looks like there is some room for the box to rattle around inside?

That's good to know about PET plastic. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, there is a tiny bit of wiggle room. One good thing is that it makes it easy to slide the contents in and out. For some of his other box protectors (Ex: NES), he has 2 flavors... "loose fit" and "tight fit". He doesn't have that option for SFC though.

Something that annoyed me about this Maken:

I can overlook the beaten up manual, but what the fuck is up with those black stickers on the disc?

Holy shit ...

Not stuff I bought, per se, but a whole container full of stuff that I had left at my parents' house like 10 years ago I found tonight.

I'm not sure exactly all what's in it, but I know there is a PS1 with some games, some Saturn games, and really not sure what else? Possibly Dreamcast and some other stuff ...

OMG I thought this stuff was long gone, I will sort through everything tomorrow and post some pics.

Alright so not quite as many goodies as I'd hoped -- I thought maybe I'd find my Logitech USB PS2 headset and some more PS1 games, but I was very surprised at the DC games I found.

Image

So clockwise from the top left:
  • Playstation:
    PS1 model SCPH-7001
    Saga Frontier
    PS1 Gameshark
[PCEFX mode] I believe the 7001 model is the most desireable? It had all the updated internal hardware, and still has the parallel I/O port. It also has an updated "dashboard" with the CD visualization feature. The only change in the later 9xxx series was the removal of the parallel port [/PCEFX mode]
  • Dreamcast:
    Virtua Tennis
    NFL 2K1
    World Series Baseball 2K1
    NBA 2K1
    Sega Bass Fishing
    Browser and Generator Vol. 1
These must have been included with a Dreamcast I bought at some point, as I generally hate sports games. The one sport I actually do like which is hockey, sadly I don't seem to have any NHL 2K series. Virtua Tennis is good though.
  • Saturn:
Virtua Fighter 2/Virtua Cop/Daytona USA freebie pack
    Wipeout
    Nights into Dreams
    Black Fire
    Sega Rally Championship
    The Lost World: Jurassic Park
    Road Rash
Can't remember what happened to my Saturn, but it's long gone. It would be seriously rad if Sega could release a dual Saturn / Dreamcast console. Sony and Nintendo managed to build backwards-compatibility into their consoles, home come Sega never did?

Psyched that I managed to find one at a decent price on eBay:

Image

Even more psyched that it's BNIB. The box is a little beat up from shipping, but the adapter itself is minty fresh.

Now waiting on a case so I can rebuild my PS2 stick (for the 3rd or 4th time  )

Man, I want some of those drugs. PET environmentally friendly, what the hell?

(example, not proven, but there is also the matter of the residents of a part of Corpus Christi, where a lot of PET bottles are made, coming down with strange ailments of the heart and lungs.)

Oh yeah, got my Dead Connection PCB yesterday, and played it a bit too. Nice game. Got some nice South Korean newsprint with it too, I'm gonna look over those later :)

did you even read the article youre referring to? it clearly states the excellent recycleability (did i just make that word up?) of PET plastics.

as for plastics being toxic?, yes they are, every last one of them.

What I actually linked to, from the article, was the Safety section - mentioning concerns about endocrine disruptors and antimony leaching out of the plastic.

Recycling? In recent years, only a little more than a quarter of PET bottles were recycled (in the US). Double that amount for Europe, maybe. That's still a lot of new bottles being made for no purpose. I seem to recall reading that new drink bottles aren't made from recycled flake because it doesn't have that "new bottle shine" anymore (could be wrong on that).

Nope, not environmentally friendly.

______________

DEAD CONNECTION IS AWESOME!!!

No plastic bottles in sight however. Just lots of tires.

I just got a Coregrafx-II and a multitap. There's also an Avenue 3 controller on its way. And then I realized that the only multiplayer Hu-Card I have is Aero Blasters :)

That is very cool ... I love the smaller consoles for some reason. That's why I HAD to buy a PS2 slim after seeing it  Maybe it's because my apartment isn't very large ... but the Dreamcast, Gamecube and Wii are so much awesome packed into such a small package.

I wonder if Nintendo will at some point release a slightly smaller version of the Wii without Gamecube support. I think if they removed the 4 controller ports and memory card slots, they could make it even smaller.

Tiny Japan gaming stuff is so cute (and practical!). I was really surprised when I got my first few Famicom games and saw the boxes weren't much bigger than a typical deck of playing cards. MD clamshell cases are a lot more nicely compact than the Western equivalents too, making them feel even more rock-solid when snapped shut.

Already done, though I'm not sure if it's available in the US yet. But wouldn't it make more sense to just have a backwards-compatible Wii for both Wii and GC games, rather than have separate console for each, if space is an issue?

I have both, but the GC is a dedicated Game Boy Player-machine, while I play my few GC games on the Wii.

The Family Edition is the same size though? And sounds like they didn't actually release it? The last paragraph in that section is a bit confusing in that respect. Though it would make sense from a cost-savings perspective to continue using the same overall design with just some small revisions, rather than a complete redesign. Though a redesign can also help to move more units. How many people have bought two PS2s, 360s or PS3s?

Good point about having both Gamecube and Wii, I guess it is pretty redundant. Right now the reality is I can't have all my consoles out and connected, so the Wii and PS2 slim are more or less "permanently" installed, and I'll pull out my SNES or DC or supergun when the mood strikes and my fianceé is out of the house

I guess I don't really need the Gamecube any more, but it seems so much more satisfying to play on the original vs the Wii. I like the noises the Gamecube makes. Plus the Wavebird receiver looks goofy on the Wii.
