There was a Japan-only Super Game Boy 2, which added the link port or something along those lines.

There's also the Transfer Pak for N64, but that's not really the same thing. The only way you could play GB games through that was using an emulator built into Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2; on its own it didn't actually enable the N64 to play GB games.

Why are Gameboy players a bad thing anyway? The Gameboy player for the Gamecube freakin' rocks in my opinion, 480p full screen Gameboy games running on (as near as damnit) original hardware, I love mine.

Gameboy Player is good, if you have a decent controller like the Hori one that is. I remember the regular GC controller gave me grief when I was finishing Metroid Fusion.

I just use a standard GBA with GC-GBA link cable for playing games through my Game Boy Player.

It would be interesting sometime to try comparing the two methods for input lag. I'd expect the link cable method to be laggy, but you never know...
