Shmups with "True" Final Bosses
As I've been on a shmup binge all summer, I'm curious as to how many shooters have "true" final bosses, meaning ones that require you to fufill a special condition to fight them (i.e., DoDonPachi). Here are the ones I know of already:
DoDonPachi (beat first loop without continuing, get to end of second loop)
DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou (same as above, but get all 10 bees in the first 5 stages of the first loop (!?!?!))
Ikaruga (don't continue?)
Border Down (sorta - based on the border you spend the most time in, and how many norm clears you have)
Mushihimesama (play through Ultra Mode)
Giga Wing (don't continue)
Alright...now, which ones am I missing, haha? There's probably a lot, so please forgive my short list. This will probably be helpful for anyone buying something older, where FAQs / Strategy posts may not be available. They can look at this thread as a quick - reference list.[/b]

Well there are multiple ways to get into the DOJ loop. You always fight the last boss in Ikaruga.
Dangun Feveron - NO MISS first Loop. You are invincible during the True Last boss (unless you BOMB).
Ketsui - Finish the SPECIAL LOOP (NO MISS/NO BOMB 120+ Million points)
Donpachi has one I think.

Oooh, what are these "multiple ways"? 'Cause the all bees + no dying way is a bit extreme.Valgar wrote:Well there are multiple ways to get into the DOJ loop. You always fight the last boss in Ikaruga.

The boss I was referring to in Ikaruga is the one after Stone-Like, where you just have to survive for a minute or two...is that what you're talking about? I don't remember facing him when I beat Ikaruga, but that was over a year ago, so my memory is foggy

The final yellow diamond boss that you just dodge is the Stone-Like, and you play it every time. The other boss forms in chapter 5 are different forms of 'Tageri'.Wang_MacTavish wrote:The boss I was referring to in Ikaruga is the one after Stone-Like, where you just have to survive for a minute or two...is that what you're talking about? As far as Axelay and DoDonPachi, it has nothing to do with continues...
I've 1CC both (first loops) and that was all she wrote.
In DoDonPachi, I think the requirement is to not lose more than 3 lives during the first loop.
Axelay...? Got me there, as I have no idea. In fact, I've never heard about an "extra/hidden" boss.
