Guess i should introduce myself too...

Erik, 21 years old, Swedish.
Played a lot of games when i was a young'un, stopped when (action) games started becoming more and more like interactive movies.
Started again when i bought a Sega Saturn with Layer Section. Started falling in love with shmups and gravitated towards the bullet hell subgenre.
What really made it all "hit home" though was when a local retro store/café/arcade opened up. 5 cabs with Cave and Raizing shmups.
Absolute heaven. 8)
Have played shmups since... May this year i guess. Right now working on: Daifukkatsu Black Label Power 1 tril Hibachi Clear, Mushi Futari BL God clear, Ketsui first loop clear and Battle Garegga clear.
Long term projects, i guess (although both DFK BL Hibachi Clear and Mushi God are the closest).

Am really into physical training. Focus on endurance and stamina. An allround physique is the best physique.
Used to play electric guitar on a semi-professional level but quit due to dissatisfaction with the business and the abstraction of improving in an artistic field.

Hi,

My name is Thomas, 23 years old, from Germany. I'm studying communication design and currently I am on an internship in California until January 2012.

I used to play lots of different stuff until I found Ikaruga and rRootage somewhere. Those got me interested in the genre pretty quickly. Since then I really love the genre, but I'm still getting my ass kicked pretty much

by the way I opened a thread for the "new to the genre people" over here.

I think that after posting almost 700 irrelevant posts, mostly in the anime section, I should introduce myself:

We were discussing video game music at a music/records messageboard when I brought up how totally awersome shoot-'em-up music is. Someone mentioned there's an alternate universe where only shoot-'em-ups are discussed and those peeps use their own lingo and have their own memes and themes going. I hesitated to join at first since I'm a casual gamer... been a casual shoot-'em-up player since Galaga, Exerion, and Time Pilot debuted at our local arcade back in the 80s.

Besides the aforementioned, favourites include Gate Of Thunder, Super R-Type, Parodius, Gradius, and 1942. I do like the new "bullet hell" games, as well, and got back into gaming as of last year when I inherited a refurbished 360 and I went out to buy Raiden IV and DeathSmiles.

My screenname is derived from the old meme, "MOVE IT, XBLOX!"

The avatar is derived from what we're all acquainted with (I used to have a Galaga ship, but then I saw some other dude with an older account had it, so I changed it) 8)

Since I'm active again, I shall re-introduce myself. My original introduction, if there ever was one, was probably in the old forum.

I'm an old fart, in few years I'm pushing 40. I've worked over 15 years in game industry, making mostly cancelled titles or crap titles. I also make comics as hobby. I live in Finland. I collect and play shmups (no shit bro), arcade and console ones. Originals only, or PCB's when I can afford them.

First game I ever played was missile command. Last new game I played was Dodonpachi resurrection.

I started here originally when this was still simply shmups.com with malc and everyone, and joined forums as soon as they were formed. We had some first dodonpachi compos already in 1999 if I am not mistaken. After 2005 crash I rejoined, but left in disgust after we had legions of lulzpeak morons spamming the forums. I think this thread is featured in best of shmups.com..... :s

However, reading the best of shmups - thread made me want to come back, and the fact that buying Xbox360 rekindled my love for shmups.

Through all this time, I have however maintained (and still maintain) hiscore threads for R-type, Salamander, Hellfire and Saint Dragon.
You are welcome to contribute to those! Usually I get email alert when those threads are updated, but if I'm not updating, throw me a pm and I'll do it.

There certainly seems to be an increased diversification of our ages in recent months. Variety is a good thing, so that's a great trend. Welcome one and all!

Hey guys. Some of you might recognize my username from other forums (namely Racketboy). Not sure why I've never signed up here, but, here I am now. I'm a fellow shmup enthusiast. Love Toaplan, favorite shmup libraries are Genesis and Saturn. Looking forward to conversing with all of you.

Hello, everyone.

I'm a long time lurker, and I decided to join this forum.

I started with Doujin Shooting Games, and I still play them even to this day. I made the move to Commercial Shooting Games, though.

I'm in the same boat as you. I used to have a few friends a while ago who were good enough at shmups that we could pull off pretty decent cooperative runs on stuff like Crisis Force or Gradius V, but since I moved all my local friends are all much more casual gamers. Even showing them something like Futari's Novice made them go O_O. Oh well.

Hi, everyone.

Been lurking on this forum for about 2 years now. Made an account last year, but haven't really posted something before now.
I've started playing shmups again after I discovered my old PSX game called ''Raiden Project''. So I had a blast playing trough these games again after all these years, even if the games still rapes me on every single run

That was 4 years ago... Today I have a HUGE collection of shmups and other old games on about 20 different gaming systems, and I also collect MVS games for my Neo Geo unit.
All my friends thinks I'm weird because I don't play modern shooters like COD and Battlefield, or boring MMO games like World of Nonsense-Craft, EVE, LOL and whatnot. Well, their loss... :)

That's pretty much it, looking forward to talk with you guys :D

Hey, everyone. I've been a casual shmup appreciator for a number of years, due to having several e-friends who play them (among the rhythm and fighting game communities, which seem to have quite a lot of overlap with this scene). I've never really played them with any level of seriousness myself, though, but after buying and loving all of Cave's iOS ports over the past year or two, I decided to get into the genre "for real." I made a dedicated stick for shmupping, and picked up a number of the NA-playable 360 games to start out on. (Buying a JP console isn't at all out of the question, but I may wait to see what the future of Cave's console releases looks like first.)

I've been playing since Thursday and having a blast -- it really is night and day playing on a stick versus the touch ports (obviously). I seem to be adapting pretty well so far, and I got within a hair's breadth of 1cc'ing Futari BL Original today, so I'm happy. Looking forward to getting to know this community better!

Renewing my vows.

Jordan. Early 30's (upstart professional) artist living in Louisiana. I can't remember ever not being a gamer and could never narrow down my favorite shmup (maybe Super Aleste or Viper Phase 1? No mayb-). My favorite game is the original NES Castlevania. Science seems religious to me and I'm always 'studying' as a hobby. I love almost all food but am especially fond of Little Caeser's pizza, purple Starkisses from Dairy Queen, and roasted vegetables. My girlfriend of 3 years is a (non-nakey) belly dancer and I feel like the luckiest pervert ever about it. I treat animals as people and admire thier purity. I'm obsessed with James Bond. Obsessed. I used to listen exclusively to death metal but decided it was too limiting, currently I'm into stuff like Blonde Redhead & Autolux but open to almost all forms of music. I have a particular set of skills that make me a nightmare for lives like this one.

My cat's name is Vice President Jefferson Titsworth. Don't hate.

Eh, why not.

26 year old from Argentina, I got here thanks to psikyo_ball. He made me get serious about STGs, which I liked casually for a long time but never really played them for the same reasons regular players don't touch them (apparent impossible difficulty). Thanks to him I also started appreciating Psikyo games, so thank you, you weird man.

Used to play mostly fighting games, mainly Super Turbo, which I played for hours at night on GGPO back when I had a decent internet connection. I'm still a beginner at this genre, but progress is nowhere near as hard as I used to believe.

Seeing as I'm almost at ten-thousand posts I figure there's no better time to make my introduction.

I'm a gamer who's too hardcore for your gentle sensibilities, with a narrow view of current gen and its commercial profile. I favour shmups and like to drink socially.

I've often been called an alpha male but I don't consider myself to be one. I'm not tall enough.
I'm unforgivingly opinionated but will take into account your point of view if it means I have better ammunition with which to gun you down. I hold language in high regard and treat it like samurai treats his blade. I don't mind illiteracy, but I hate idiocy. I also dislike people, generally, apart from those with social skills and an appreciation of history.

I'm an elitist who dislikes elitists and if you make a stupid noob post I'll fucking kill you. I may also offer friendly advice if I sense neutrality and genuine naivety.
I've often been called a narcissist, which I think is incorrect: I just think I'm better than you. If you don't agree with me go fuck yourself.
I believe swear words can be virtuous when used properly.

I can be your friend but I find it more enjoyable to be your enemy. Argue with me, I like it, it gives me something to do.

I like spending big money on rare gaming commodities and I have an Asian girlfriend with whom I copulate. That makes my life better than yours.

I love Japan, its gaming culture, its eccentricities and its cultural idiosyncrasies; but I dislike its devout worshippers. If you're a weeaboo you deserve to get hit by a truck. A Japanese truck, if it suits you, you idiot.

New anime is 95% shit. It's not a subjective point and it's not up for debate. If you're unlucky enough to have an underdeveloped critical ability, it doesn't mean you should be forgiven, it means you should be educated.

Opinion is a fallacy, there is only right and wrong. Learning how to distinguish between art and trash is one of the most important favours you can ever do yourself. Question everything and follow your instinct.

I do not believe the term 'hardcore gamer' relates to anything except those with hindsight and experience of the medium's best years. If you spent two thirds of your life playing Call of Duty you're not a hardcore gamer, you're a fat asshole.
On that note, I also don't believe 'hardcore gaming' should be stigmatised as a geeky pursuit. In-fact, I vigorously oppose such nonsense and champion the opposite. I don't have a problem with nerds, but I dislike nerdiness. I don't think it's healthy to wallow in your hobby to the point that you choose fantasy over reality.
Sealed Game Collectors are the biggest morons in any hobby. They pay hundreds of dollars for cellophane and never use the product as intended.

I don't feel sorry for people with no friends -- it's your fault, do something about it. Stop playing games/whacking off to hentai. You're also old enough to have figured out your sexuality, don't allow yourself to be confused by the hereditary aloofness of Japanese people.

It's okay if you're not great at games as long as you try hard. Don't listen to people like me, make your own decisions. This is your life, not a rehearsal. It's just one long ten-second continue screen countdown: there's no coin slot for a second credit.

I'm 45th generation Roman.

Actions speak louder than words.

Stand by me my apprentice.

Be brave, clenched fists.

EDIT: For all the newcomers that find this and don't know me, please don't take this at all seriously. Its mostly complete bullshit... Mostly.

Now how does a guy follow that?

Anyhoo, Marc, 34, 3 kids, house etc etc etc... used to have a fucking massive collection until a split with the first missus after which I had to sell to keep my head above water. Sold my 'This Is Cool' Saturn and Shmup collection to Darran Jones, editor of Retrogamer as it happens. Sold some lucky twat on here Waku 7 and Metal Slug 3 AES's at a fucking bargain price too.

Love Rock & Roll and videogames of all sorts. Don't give a fuck about 'mainstream' vs 'hardcore' long as it floats my boat. Self-opinionated, but a right soft arse with it. Drink too much. Think ZX Spectrum R-Type is the most amazing arcade conversion of all-time. Realize that there was just as much crap around when I was a kid as there is now, but still look back with rose-coloured glasses. Have a massive collection of Intellivision carts but no machine to play them on as it blew up. Would list my three favourite things ATM as Pearl Jam, Futari BL and Pizza. Is determined to catch up to Icarus on iOS Grindrunner, but falling short. Night all.
