Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America

Give over...
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I disagree. If Wartech wasn't butchered as so, I think it would have done better.Never_Scurred wrote:The point I was trying to make is that like Senko No Ronde, this game is belongs to a very niche, word-of-mouth genre, so I don't think a name change would make all the difference people might think it would. Senko still would have sold what it sold without the name change.
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Wartech wasn't butchered at all beyond the name, though. Aside from the DLC that never made it over, the game had an excellent translation and was mercifully spared an English dub.
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Isn't the japanese dlc compatible with the english version though? Atleast that's what I heard.Estebang wrote:Wartech wasn't butchered at all beyond the name, though. Aside from the DLC that never made it over, the game had an excellent translation and was mercifully spared an English dub.

I'm pretty sure it is, but that certainly limited its availability for most people.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Not that it's relevant to the thread but I like the WarTech title and I reckon it's a great game. Never heard of any additional DLC for it but it's crap like voices or stuff that got included anyway it's probably not a huge deal anyway (I realise I'm being ignorant but don't spoil me with telling me what I'm missing out on plz
).

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Thinking about it, I'm inclined to agree - yours is a fair comment. Thank you.Estebang wrote:It's still unclear and misleading wording, since "hand-drawn" is so often used to refer to sprites when talking about games. You should specify "hand-drawn backgrounds."
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Slightly OT but what's in that JP Wartech DLC?
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
A crapload of character skins I think.bcass wrote:Slightly OT but what's in that JP Wartech DLC?

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Yes, four additional costumes per character: costume 4 (with A Type and B Type variants) and costume 5 (with A Type and B Type variants). The costumes ran around the 80 MSP mark each (yep, you had to purchase each one separately). Some were cool cross-overs from other G.Rev titles (my favourite being Lili dressed in the outfit that Adele Friederick wears in Under Defeat).AntiFritz wrote:A crapload of character skins I think.bcass wrote:Slightly OT but what's in that JP Wartech DLC?
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I agree that the name change probably didn't add to the sales of SnR (Wartech is a bad name anyway, but I guess it does sound like a mech game)
Speaking of the game, we should totally hold some shmups forum tournament for it over XBL. (Enhasa would destroy all, but no point giving up

The one when you hit www.risingstargames.com? It might have new graphics but that's been there a while now Estebang.
Looks like they still have the date listed as Spring 2012 too.

The American page now lists akai katana now though (and ONLY akai katana).BPzeBanshee wrote:The one when you hit http://www.risingstargames.com? It might have new graphics but that's been there a while now Estebang.

Yes - we haven't yet announced the other titles for the Americas.AntiFritz wrote:The American page now lists akai katana now though (and ONLY akai katana).BPzeBanshee wrote:The one when you hit http://www.risingstargames.com? It might have new graphics but that's been there a while now Estebang.

It advertises "local 2 player co-op". In the Japanese version, this was only in the arcade mode. Has this changed? I never understood why co-op wasn't an option for Zetsu.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yo, torisuRSG, you have my full support for this. I'll add it to my preorder list on Amazon once it's available.
It'd be nice if this did well and we could get some of the other region-locked games, but I know that business is business and that stuff can get tricky.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Agreed. I plan to pre-order as soon as the US version is listed. Would love to see Mushihimesama come over if this does well.

You can count on my pre-order. I've been eyeing this game for a while now.

I'll definitely be pre-ordering this at my local store as soon as it's listed, and will be trying to spread the word about it. Thanks for bringing it to NA, and looking forward to your future titles!
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Thanks guys!
@Thjodbjorn, sorry, I don't know off the top of my head. That's something I'll have to check when I'm back in the office tomorrow.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Is this going to be available everywhere or am I going to need to place my order with an online retailer?

Very likely going to be a Gamestop/Amazon-only thing.

Cool, thanks. I'll be getting it regardless, but it would be nice for co-op to not be limited to arcade.torisuRSG wrote:Thanks guys!

I'm afraid it is limited to Arcade mode only.

Hey torisu, do you know if the 4:3 arcade issue will be fixed in this release yet or have you not heard back from the dev team?
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Jesus Christ Estebang, fastidious ever. I'm sure RSG has plenty to be busy with without having to worry about nitpicking over phrasing that's been commonly used in relation to 2D gaming since the beginning of time.Estebang wrote:If Torisu is still reading, I'd like to point this out. There's false advertising on RSG's product page for Akai Katana.Of the characters? Sure. That goes for almost any game with manga-style character designs. But the sprites you'll be seeing in-game are all pre-rendered 3D.Gorgeous hand-drawn artwork

If it was really such a problem to edit one line of HTML text, Torisu would have just ignored me and not changed it, and I wouldn't have minded. But it wasn't.
Better that I was the one to bring it up than Destructoid, right?

How about just leaving them alone to release the game?

You seem to care a lot more than the rep did. And the rest of the internet cares about Destructoid, people that aren't already waving money around waiting for RSG to cut the ribbon on preorders.
