Going to keep my games. Decided that I'm just going to have to stave off from purchasing any more games for the next few weeks.
In other news, I bought Kane and Lynch 2 for £2.
So much for not spending money on games...

Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Are the kane and lynch games really that bad?
Hmmm... I'll see about whether i want to return any of the games on Wednesday.
I might also use the occasion to get rid of some of my existing collection.
Too many games. Not enough time.
Maybe I'm too jaded, but I don't play as many games as I used to. I just spend my money on stuff that I don't need, or stuff that I will never play.

Kane and Lynch 2 is FUCKING TERRIBLE!
I got it on PC in the steam sale for £2-3, played it for literally 25 minutes and never touched it again. Everything about it feels like an abortion of sensible game design and the camera is all woogly-wobbly for no reason. And the blood effects suck and block your view too much.

kane and lynch 2
kane and lynch 1
top spin 3
pgr 4 (sorry people. i don't really play driving games)
halo 3 (sorry people. i played it before and found the campaign to be lacklustre)
lost planet 2 (the demo made me go "yawn")
too human (now this i might actually keep. but then again, there are better slash-em-ups, such as god of war)
all in all, that's about £15 refunded back to me. wow... 7 games for £15. and to think that some punter probably paid £280ish for all of those when they were first released.

You're giving Halo 3 back? Blasphemy - that has the best JENGA TOWERS map mod out of the entire series!
(actually it's the only title I don't have besides ODST and that RTS one - I don't remember anything of playing the Campaign at my mate's place so it can'tve been that great either but Multiplayer is the bees knees)

I still have until GAME actually close (forever) to decide as to which games I want to give back for a refund.

Tis a pity online video reviews take so long to produce (about a week on average), otherwise I would be sorely tempted to make my own - after purchasing a Hauppage HDPVR of course.

i remember going for this interview at next a few years ago, and the interviewer showed me a pile of cvs about the size of 10-15 inches. apparently, she got that many cvs in not too long a time, and i was one of the lucky few she picked up to actually read.
i didn't get the job in the end. i came second. but all was not lost, as i ended up getting a more suitable job afterwards.

They had Death Smiles and Sin & Punishment for like 3 quid the other day. Haven't found any gems on the hand-helds yet (read: RPGs).
I saw Gamestations just a few years ago that still had a 'retro' cabinet with MD Phantasy Star games and PS FF stuff, but I reckon the staff will have first dibs if the axe really falls. Same deal with any Zelda special editions. Some of them may have MadCatz sticks tucked away, but for sure, they will get poached fast in this day and age of online comms.

Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Well, I just refunded a whole heap of games. Lost the receipt for one of them (Kane and Lynch 2) - not that it really matters as it is going to be traded into some local game shop along with Luigi's Mansion which I bought for £1 on Gamecube.
A few other games are going too, but I can't be bothered listing them.

Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
So it seems like GAME are nearly out for the count... I haven't bought any new games from their store(s) in recent weeks - esp after the last few games which I bought (that are now gathering dust).
I wouldn't mind interviewing a few GAME employees and just making a featurette podcast out of it (much like A Life Well Wasted). I may even go one step further and just explore the state of videogame retail in the marketplace today...

As expected, retailer GAME will this morning enter administration.
Furthermore, Sky News presenter Joel Hills has claimed via Twitter that no buyer has been found for the chain.
The news sadly points to a store closure programme, with staff likely to be told today of which branches are to close and roughly how many jobs will be lost.
The process of attempting to find a buyer will continue as GAME downsizes, with hopes remaining that a potential suitor such as GameStop will move to acquire the downsized retailer.
MCV will report all news as and when we can confirm it. Expect developments to continue throughout the day.

....and the guys at my store in Australia said this would've taken several months to happen.
Shame about the job positions etc. Good thing Aussie stores aren't going anywhere so long as they start stocking my damn shmups.

This really couldn't have ended any other way. Game was apparently run by monkeys: First they bought out the competition, then they kept 2-3 stores in cities with a population of ~100,000.

Jesus... I mean, to go just like that. Poof!
Some stores have started closing already... Such a sad day for staff and games retail.
It is estimated that around 300 of the UK’s 609 GAME and Gamestation outlets will cease trading immediately, with the possibility of more to follow if a buyer is not found quickly.
One of MCV’s local stores, Gamestation in Enfield EN2, sadly shut its doors just moments ago.

Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Nah he is for the most part talking out of his arse, It's the high prices of boxed games compared to Amazon and its ilk thats the main thing, plus the new competion from the supermarkets. Even for the PC digi and boxed sales are split 50/50 in the UK and most parts of the EU, although the loss of GAME wont help boxed PC sales considering the supermarkets have very little to no PC games on their shelves

Let's all join on the hatin' on the fat bearded guy cause it's mainstream and we're all jealous he's made more money than us!
Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I think GAME/GS's "closure" has bigger ramifications for the industry than many seem to realise:
1. The lack of a high street retail presence where one can buy NEW games will seriously escalate games transitioning from being boxed copy products to digital only downloads.
2. Whilst the closure of GAME/GS is welcome news for indie game retail stores (which will probably start increasing in number so as to take advantage of GAME/GS's "closure"), the fact that the market is transitioning to digital, and the fact that the next gen consoles will probably implement "anti-second-hand" measures so as to prevent people from playing pre-owned products, means that all game stores will eventually go to the wall since they aren't able to earn revenue from second hand sales.
Don't get me wrong. GAME/GS going into administration represents a massive opportunity for the fledgling entrepreneur who wants to set up their own game store, but even this tactical advantage will (most likely) be short-lived once the industry really starts clamping down on second hand sales (through digital distribution etc). And then we'll be seeing game stores go the same way as Tower Records and all the other indie music shops.

No, let's hate him because he made a shitty, perpetually unfinished ripoff of Infiniminer that's about a billion times more popular than it deserves to be. Also for being a gigantic manbaby (baiting Bethesda by naming a game "Scrolls" and then crying foul when they lash back). Even the Yogscast guys agree he's a wheedling idiot.BPzeBanshee wrote:Let's all join on the hatin' on the fat bearded guy cause it's mainstream and we're all jealous he's made more money than us!
And don't even try to suggest that anyone's "jealous." That's what Phil Fish pathetically said after his public douchebaggery disaster. If I was Notch, I'd rightfully feel terrible about myself for scamming people out of millions with an unfinished crapfest and pushing many far more deserving developers out of the limelight.

Re: GAME Over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
If you've actually seen Infiniminer then surely you'd know the similarity between it and Minecraft is the blocks, and holding the pickaxe in the hand.......and lava. That's basically it.
Sure, because Scrolls is so easily confused with The Elder Scrolls games of which no one ever calls them by its title (ie. Skyrim, Oblivion, Daggerfall, I've never seen it as "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" anywhere besides the packaging). And you're referencing Yogscast, the cunts who behaved worse at MineCon than the Fez guy at a similar convention, as an excuse for hating the developer just because you don't like the game?Estebang wrote: Also for being a gigantic manbaby (baiting Bethesda by naming a game "Scrolls" and then crying foul when they lash back). Bitch please. By that logic I should be hating Cave and shitting on everything they did because Futari Original is a 'shitty unfinished ripoff of Raiden II that's about a billion times more popular than it deserves to be'. Yeah right. /strawmanEstebangStyle
You're the one acting very jealous about the guy's success here, and clearly you haven't seen the other indie games Mojang in general (remember, it's not just Notch anymore) as well as him promoting other titles. No, just look at the hatin' negative reviews and go 'oh hey that's an excuse for me to be a total cunt' because it makes you look better than when you usually have no references to anything anyway.Estebang wrote:And don't even try to suggest that anyone's "jealous." For the record, I was around to see Minecraft well before he started making money off it. People were already saying 'SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY' well before he put up PayPal purchase links for premium accounts, and that had nothing to do with huge advertising or conventions or manbabying or anything else.
