iOS Cave ports... there's a way to play them on iPhone 3g?

Post by ケツイ »

I know it's a dumb question but i never believed that the iPhone 3g could not run properly those ports (especially after the release of DOJ which is a game that runs on less powerful hardware than the SH3,consequently iOS port would run decently on 3G).
However there's a way like hacks or something like that to make it possible?

Maybe a Jailbreak would allow it? Even then the games may have been coded to simply not boot on a 3G.

I have no idea how you could play them on such a small screen though. They're fantastic on the iPad, but on such as small screen with your finger in the way?....

The hardware comparison is invalid - you're comparing software running on purpose-built hardware to software running on hardware running a multitasking OS through an abstraction layer.

I believe the 3G has an earlier version ARM processor and doesn't support the new instructions that are used in the iOS Cave ports. So no, unless you go through extensive hacking, you won't get them to work.

It works perfectly on a 3GS with jailbreak. 3G, I have no idea but don't think so.

Not sure of the 3G, though there is actually a part of the Cave site that has a run-down of what hardware version you need to run each of their iOS titles. And I'll tell you this, buddy; all the ones I've played not only ran well on the iPhone 3GS, but better than their original PCB versions! They did an absolutely phenomenal job with the control! Probably the best control ever in a shooting game, period.

jailbreak? For me, yes. Why? Because I had a Japanese iPhone, and you can't even get service from AT&T without it. So, that being said, I bought pre-paid cards when I was in Japan to download them, but since I had no access to Japanese pre-paid cards anymore in the States, I had to use Jailbreaking to get iOS games.

If Cave games alone aren't a reason to get an iPhone/iPod Touch, then I don't know what is!

BTW, check out the our 2010 site link below for an iOS title article. Maybe that can help you out with what games I was able to play on 3GS, and maybe even show you a few you may overlook...

I've spent over 12,000 or so yen in the App Store. Pretty good for someone who's never set foot in Japan, no?

So in theory is possible to do with hacks :o

Yeah, if you want to spend probably 80+ hours replacing every single usage of a new instruction with a couple old instructions. Also expanding the executable section in the binary to fit your new code. You'd also probably need a bunch more RAM.

You'd need to do a lot more than that :-P

Starcreator: Never seen that site before, and found nothing like it back in 2010 when I had returned, so I had no way of getting those cards back then. Only one site maybe even came close the link you gave me, but they always lied about their stock; I won't do business with a sketchy site that reminds me of scammers like Buy-Rite to please anyone. As long as the site you gave me is legit, it could be a great resource, but I'll have to try it out. Been looking for a reliable overseas pre-paid code provider for a long time, and if all their Facebook "Likes" mean anything, could be good. Never even knew the site existed; thanks, man.

You honestly think Deathsmiles plays better on an iPhone 3GS that an arcade machine?

yosai: Some players swear by the arcade versions/PCBs, and understand that. Even on our site in the article we did on the iOS games, I focused primarily on the control. I love the freedom, and I do better with it! It's just my preference, I guess...

That's because touch control trivializes the survival aspect of the games. It can make scoring more difficult depending on the game, but the ship movement is far easier than he original games.

I have an iPod Touch 3G running iOS 5.0.1, and I am able to play every Cave port on it. When I tried to download DDP: Blissful Death from the app store it told me I needed a "forward-facing camera" aka a fourth generation pod. My iPod is jailbroken and it was as simple as downloading an .ipa of Blissful Death and installing it with iFunBox. I have no clue why they restricted it to 4G pods because it runs flawlessly on my 3G. DeathSmiles, Mushihimesama 1/2, and ESPgaluda II all run perfectly as well. DDP: Resurrection obviously works too.

I should add that I don't know if a iPhone 3G and a Touch 3G are radically different or not. Seems to me like it should work for you though
