the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.
Let's get this straight, I suck at shmups in comparison to most guys on here, and I don't care

Yeah, the games look amazing. The thing is I still need to invest in a decent joypad or at least something to hook up my wireless 360 controller to the PC. That and it would just feel wrong to drop Espgaluda 2 and Futari when I've put so much time into them and feel so close to reaching my goals. Still, I'll probably be playing the Touhou games by the end of the year.Aliquantic wrote:Still kind of surprised Gus isn't shooting for the Touhous, since that's where the biggest competition lies for obsessive/hardcore score-running (see Royalflare and elsewhere)... the bullet cancelling is a little tame, though, but the doujin works beat Cave hands down!
That's the first time I've seen the word 'passion' used as a synonym for 'skill'.Gus wrote:when you can barely find anyone with similar passion for these games as you
I know your pain, broGus wrote:There's nothing wrong with just 1 individual playing casually but when it's when it's almost the entire forum doing it it becomes a problem. When you see nothing but casual garbage getting posted, when you can barely find anyone with similar passion for these games as you, the casual playing starts to get very annoying.
Thanks, I'll be here all week.third_strike wrote:I find which Skykid is being very offensive in his posts.

It's funny how I've gotten to stage 5 on Ketsui grabbing all of the extends on a regular basis without playing it regularly in the last 2 months. What I mostly do is play a credit and nothing more (no savestates, no serious practice)... and I consider myself a casual player... sometimes I don't even play a shmup in 3 or 4 days as I focus on my studies, fighters, etc...Gus wrote:There's nothing wrong with just 1 individual playing casually but when it's when it's almost the entire forum doing it it becomes a problem. I think people should have to prove they play a minimum of 15 hours per day in order to register here, also having a job would be frowned upon because it shows you've not got your priorities right. The real hardcore players would be very emaciated too. Everyone who plays shmups is already blowing off mainstream gaming. I have no idea why they would start to care once they come here.Danny wrote:To be honest does it really matter what people think about you or your hobby on an internet forum?
This is the best advice I have ever seen on shmups forum, 100%. Thank you for sharing your ideas, Kaiser. I truly appreciate it, and it brings a tear to my eye that you would open yourself to these hoodlums, even if they've ignored it and ignored you.Kaiser wrote:Actually to bring up a point I noticed after years of play is that Novice players when using savestate, they just grind and grind the sections but it doesn't get them far quick. In my opinion, save states should be used to observe/train the patterns, think why they are so hard, what could be a decent idea to dodge it, is there a time you could bomb and get away with it? In my opinion that's how you should use savestates however this also applies to all kinds of stage select and boss practice.
I'll give you an example, I am playing Bee Storm right now at the moment. I'm training Hibachi, he's a tough boss but nowhere hard as other TLBs. After some practice and observations. I can more or less predict what he will do next and thus get to his final attacks on 1 life. If you think an idea is worth trying, then do it, try it out. Don't scrap it because it may seem stupid, it may save your ass and time.
