I truly hate to be a burden - and i'm sure that this topic has been posted many a time here at shmups.com...
PSP MAME. If you would be so kind as to lay out what this is all about - the ups and downs, what i'll need, and just any general info you can give me - it would be very appreciated.
Is this a difficult process? How many roms would you say work for it? Where can i download the best files for it? How big of a memory stick should i get? Should i refrain from exposing my big stick in public?
...and most of all - i can get Metal Slug 1-5 to work for it right?
I've played metal slug 1 on my mates PSP w/ mame and it was good, if plagued by slow down - which in time with better builds I imagine will disappear (hopefully)
On a related topic: how is emulation on the PSP in general? It's just been released in the UK, and I've put off buying it for the time being (as I usually do with new consoles/handhelds, to see what the second and third generation games are like) but the one thing that might sway me is emulation.
Are the current batch of emulators any good, compatibility and speed wise? Do the arcade emus have TATE? What consoles are emulated so far? Does PSPMAME run Garegga any good? Links and info are much appreciated in advance.
And my final question: is there a PS1 emu in the works? I'd love to have Gradius Gaiden on the go ^_^

The mature emulators are Neo-Geo CD (NeoCD PSP), PC Engine (HuE), SNES (SNES9xTYL), Megadrive (PSPGenesis), and NES (NesterJ), all of which run great on approx 80% of titles. There's also various other decent but buggy emus such as Master System / Game Gear (SMS PSP) for example.
PSP MAME is still in the early stages, not mature enough to do much yet, but growing.

Get a PSP with 1.00 or 1.50 firmware, and run the emulators off your memory stick. Community sites like http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk should point you in the right direction.

There does exist a PSX emu for the PSP but it currently runs at 5 frames per second...future upgrades should bump up the framerate even higher.
Glad to see that hackers have already unlocked the secerts of the PSP. How would PS1 emulation work however? Won't you have to stick a 650 MB ISO on your memory stick? Cause there is no way that a PS1 disc will fit in the PSP's tiny UMD slot.
