Starblade in Tekken 5

Post by Palmer Eldritch »

This has probably been up a few times before. Nevertheless I need to know from someone who actually owns T5 and who appreciates shooters, how well Starblade plays in the T5/PS2 version.
Big Starblade fan BTW.

Anyone?

Ah yes, the famous Namco 1991 Starblade coin-op...

Yes, legend has it that Namco bought the rights to the unfinished Starfighter raster-scan arcade prototype game that Atari Games was working on in 1983-1984 for "The Last Starfighter" movie. The very same arcade control layout featured in the Starfighter arcade cabinet shown in the movie is the same arcade control layout found in the later Atari Games released space shooter circa 1992, Space Lords. I remember seeing the Starblade arcade machine that was a huge arcade cabinet with a an even bigger monitor screen setup -- used a standard arcade monitor with reverse screen setup projected on to a mirror setup for larger-than-life RGB screen display. I liked how the control would buzz & vibrate when it was getting close to your energy gauge being depleted to "zero".

It's too bad that Namco didn't produce a Starblade sequel...that I would've like to have tried that one out.

The Mame version of Starblade doesn't play very well & is bugged with several problems...hopefully the PS2 version of Starblade on the Tekken 5 PS2 DVD-Rom disc is much better (I don't have it).

The PS2 Tekken 5 version of Starblade is wonderful.

I didn't even know the game ran at 60 FPS prior to playing it. Granted I have not played the arcade version but everything felt solid to me.

You can also edit the game settings through the arcade dipswitches.

Also you get four moderately good to great fighting games (Tekken 1-3, 5)

And here I wasn't really interested in getting Tekken 5, I may have to consider it now.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Yeah that and Tekken 2 which happens to be my favourate, after that the series kinda lost it for me although it's heading in the right direction with 5 but it will never beat the classic 2D fighters or the Vitrua Fighter or Soul Edge series.

It didn't.

Starblade AC played at about 30-45 FPS, not really sure. Didn't run as smooth as THAT though.
