"Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
"Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
Anyone else getting this?
http://t.co/ZQpDXH1F
After I'm done, I get a "screen burn" from the hit counter and a little bit at the bottom bomb stock where it says "Hyper Standby"
Any techie know if this is damaging?
Software issue?

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
I got the same with my old iPad 1st Gen. Not with DDP DOJ (it doesnt work on 1st gen), but with text etc. It's more an afterglow than a burn...TonK wrote:Anyone else getting this?

Dunno what it is exactly, but on my old pad it always went away after a very short while.
(BTW, I don't think that something can "burn in" on an LCD.)
An (real) answer to this would interest me too.

This site has some nice info on LCD screen burn in.

seems like you should be fine, but maybe iPads are different?

No, that's definitely unusual behavior for an iPad.dunpeal2064 wrote:

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
Could be a software bug? Do you still see it when you run a different app that has a white background or after rebooting the ipad?
Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
100% hardware issue. Shouldn't effect typical use for more than a minute or two after extended play.
I'd be a little concerned how quickly this appeared and how slow it disappeared? Though it would show up most on a flat color it also does appear rather strong on the hit counter there - that this case is a light color on a white (?) background I wouldn't expect it to show through that brightly, I'd expect more of a shadow from darker colors?
In your case I'd swap the thing based on that video...
...Or at least try it on someone else's to compare - at the end of the day you don't want to keep thinking; 'is it just me?'
This image retention is not typically something to be concerned about. Once a more varied picture has been displayed a few times this ghosting is usually gone. It's a common issue. Its effect can vary as a result of small manufacturing discrepancies, even across same spec'd displays. If you tend to just use a single app/game for large periods of time you might be advised to run a pattern/screen saver to vary pixel usage - same could be said of any tv/monitor.

Sell it and buy vintage cigars
Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
I had that exact problem. Freaked out for a few minutes. It was persistent even on the home and lock screens for awhile, and would reappear even if I switched the screen on and off.
Then I restarted the iPad - it immediately went away. So I suspect it's a software/video glitch.

Only Apple hardware could be considered "old" less than two years after its initial release.Drachenherz wrote:I got the same with my old iPad 1st Gen.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
I've spotted image retention at varying points on every LCD I've ever used. Dissipates not so long after the image changes so no big deal.

Do you know what causes it?cools wrote:I've spotted image retention at varying points on every LCD I've ever used. Dissipates not so long after the image changes so no big deal.
Anyway, if I open some other apps, it's not present, then on others it is.
Gonna wait on a response from Cave.
Wonder if anyone else has a new iPad and similar problems.
Gotta play to at least stage 4 to make it occur.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
I have not had any image retention issues at all, as of yet.
I wonder if the fact that it's not technically an iPad app could have something to do with it?

Did you test on an iPad 3 with DOJ?Thjodbjorn wrote:I have not had any image retention issues at all, as of yet.

I had a similar problem once with another game. Just reboot the Ipad and it will go away.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
Consider the immediate weather around you, how much you're playing and whether you've left it paused for a long while or something. Going by the video it looks like what I'd get on my computer LCD screen where it kinda burns in after a while, but turning off the LCD screen (or in this case the iPad) and leaving it for a while in constant weather should remove it. Probably won't fix the fact that it happens in the first place but that could be due to the weather as well - my iMac actually gets smoky in the bottom-right corner going across 1/3rd of the 26' screen depending on changes in the weather but I'm in Darwin which is renowned for its humidity/heat.

I did, yes. I played until about mid-3rd level though only (being sleepy), and you said it only happens if you make it as far as 4th?TonK wrote:Did you test on an iPad 3 with DOJ?Thjodbjorn wrote:I have not had any image retention issues at all, as of yet.

Thanks man.
Restarting does nothing.
Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
Unlike Apple to use low quality screens.
All of the 24" Cinema HD screens we have here are fucked but they have outlasted the Iiyamas.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
Might be software incompatibility with the new screen. Cave is aware, we'll see what they say.yosai wrote:Unlike Apple to use low quality screens. All of the 24" Cinema HD screens we have here are fucked but they have outlasted the Iiyamas.

Don't want to freak you out but if this is the iPad you have your issue could be related to this.

People are also freaking out because most of the displays come properly calibrated, rather than far too blue.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
I've had the same issue a few weeks ago, with the same shape and position, on my iPad 2.
Don't recall if it was from playing Daioujou, but it's likely that is was.

Re: "Screen Burn" from DDP DOJ on the new iPad
It's software related. Not hardware.
Reboot fixes it. I've had this many times and it's Daioujou's flickering hit counter that does it.

I think the point is that it shouldn't do it.
Why do Apple not test their stuff before launch? What next a massive call back ?

Can this issue possibly cause irreparable damage to the screen?
