Youtube HD problem

Post by Xeno »

I uploaded a Mp4 format video with 720p resolution, file size 2,3gt to youtube and after 10 hours of uploading youtube converted it to 360p video, very nice...
Does anyone know why it did the conversion from great to shitty? How could I avoid it?

Did you check to see if it was available at 720p as well? HD videos seem to usually start streaming for me at 360p, but the cogwheel icon will allow me to select 240p or 720p (usually).

I don't recall having to do anything fancy when I uploaded this, for example:

Just remind people to view your videos in high quality.

Yeah, sure I am aware of the cogwheel...

Doesn´t this work only for yourself?

Anyways someone told me that the HD version should appear later on youtube, not sure about this, will see.

Edit: it is now HD @ youtube.

You've probably figured it out by now, but YouTube makes multiple encoding passes for each resolution, and they tend to appear smallest resolution first.

It might have been the case that YT reencoded the 360 versions more quickly, and uploaded them more quickly, so for a while that's all that was available.
