I dunno if I'd call it entertaining, but:Deca wrote:Is this entertaining enough that I should ask you to elaborate?Estebang wrote:back to working for the company that fired him for his Kane & Lynch review.
Before Kane & Lynch comes out, Gamespot gets a ton of advertising $$$ from Eidos, and re-does the whole site in a Kane & Lynch theme for a week.
That Jeff guy reviews it, gives it a mediocre score.
Eidos threatens to stop giving Gamespot exclusives or advertising $$$, Gamespot pulls the review and fires Jeff.
Basically, it's just your typical "gaming reviews are bought by the publisher" story.

Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
Hey friends, have you seen the launch trailer ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaO1djQMhF4
It looks like there are more stuff in here than I saw since I follow the game (i.e. a long time) : big laser, charged shot, very wide spread shot, bullet reflecting ??

Looks much better in that trailer. I really want to play it now.
Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
After seeing that, it definitely looks promising with all the bullets. My MS points are ready for this.

Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.
Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
Some heartening and some disheartening elements there. Cutscenes that are present in arcade mode is a bit disappointing. Hopefully the time-health thing is executed well. I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic, while also peeing my pants with anticipation. Also, the reviewer has as many spellings of Garegga as there are mentions.

Well, I can't still say it looks Euroshmuppy at this point, at least.

Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
Launch trailer looks great, nothing is said about how the scoring system works in that review though so still sketchy on that. Looks fun enough to play even if it's not worth playing for score though.
@guigui: the bullet reflect is one of the time capsule powers I think (instead of slow time etc.) and the others are subweapons. But according to what was posted here about the scoring system using either breaks a multiplier you build up from enemy kills which sounds boring.
edit: that free scrolling laser maze stage looks pretty annoying

It does look it, kind of a cross between Garegga and Project-X on Amiga.Estebang wrote:Well, I can't still say it looks Euroshmuppy at this point, at least.

Too much Project-X for me. Hope cutscenes are skipable.Marc wrote:It does look it, kind of a cross between Garegga and Project-X on Amiga.Estebang wrote:Well, I can't still say it looks Euroshmuppy at this point, at least.

I'm not too convinced that it's actually going to play very well. It looks like a bit too much style and not enough substance, but I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Sounds pretty cool. I don't trust Destructoid's opinion in the slightest, though.

Anthro...moose?
Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
And he still gives it a 9.5 out of 10.Sine Mora is an exceptional shmup but it's not without flaws. As with many first time shmup developers, Digital Reality get some basics wrong. The backgrounds and bullets are a bit too colorful for their own good, as they occasionally blend together. Then there are the missiles and tiny bullets that can easily be missed without possessing stellar vision and familiarity with the stage.
The most damaging part of the game’s design is its constant in-game cutscenes that will turn away hi-score chasers, despite the game having a great scoring system. You can fast-forward these scenes by holding down the left bumper, but it'd be much better if you could just skip them altogether in arcade replays.
I believe there were posts way back in this very thread telling the developer that the bullets and backgrounds blended way too much, and that cutscenes/long play times would be a hindrance.
Sigh.
Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
They've said cutscenes are skippable many times. Will have to see the bullet visibility for myself, people overstate garegga after all. I don't like the look of the bullets but I'm more worried about excess visual effects that might make stuff harder to see.Udderdude wrote:I believe there were posts way back in this very thread telling the developer that the bullets and backgrounds blended way too much, and that cutscenes/long play times would be a hindrance.

I was wondering about that part. The screen jerks back and forth a bit, but the ship seems to be moving normally (i.e. not necessarily pulling the camera with it). Hopefully I'll get to find out tomorrow!

Hopefully the old trailer's extreme example of bullets blending with the scenery isn't representative of what we'll be dealing with most of the time; the rest of the backgrounds look much darker. For the most part, I'm really looking forward to this. (Three hours long, though? Surely not!)

Fast Forward is not the same as skippable.Zaarock wrote:They've said cutscenes are skippable many times. Will have to see the bullet visibility for myself, people overstate garegga after all. I want to push a button and then the cutscene is gone. Not hold down a button until I have to mentally remind myself the cutscene skipping is over and I should start shooting at crap again.
Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
Hopefully it's Gigawing/Jamestown-type fast forward. Those aren't that intrusive. If not, we can always pester the shit out of them in hopes of a patch.Udderdude wrote: Fast Forward is not the same as skippable.

Yeah, Gigawing did a good job of mixing a plotline into a shmup without it being problematic when you're replaying the stage constantly. Even an unlockable option to ignore text/cutscenes would be nice.Moniker wrote:Hopefully it's Gigawing/Jamestown-type fast forward. Those aren't that intrusive. Re: Sine Mora(Suda 51 shmup)
New trailer looks amazing to me, I have no complaints. Hori's with a more atmospheric and cinematic approach are a good diversion to my usual diet of short verts.
