Another "what region is my Seibu SPI board?" thread

Post by opt2not »

I recently bought a Seibu SPI board with Battle Balls cart installed, that I'm trying to find out what region it is.
I was told by the seller that it's Japan region, but the game is in English and the title screen says "German Licensee Tuning" like this:

So is this a Japan region board with German licensed cart installed?
Or a US board?
.....or a European board?? (Are there such things for this system?)

I'm really hoping it's a Japan or Asia region, 'cause I have a Viper Phase 1 cart being sent to me that is also Japan.
The seller also has a US cart, so if this is the wrong board for the cart, I might have to ask him to swap it.

I don't have access to a Rom checker, so I won't be able to find out by checking the data.

Any knowledge about these Battle Ball/Senkyu versions out there someone can share?

Thanks

I would trust what's on the screen over whatever the seller is saying.
In other words, you have a german or euro region board and a german cartridge.
SPI mobo and cart region code must match or you get a checksum error.

If you have an EPROM burner, it's fairly trivial to replace the PRG roms
so that you have a cart that matches whatever your motherboard is.

Since I don't have access to an eprom burner, I just use both a JPN & USA region SP1 mobo along with the proper regional SP1 carts for them. That is another alternative to consider in your case, opt2not.

Ah darn, I was afraid of that. I think I'm going to have to get the region changed via burning new roms. I know that Steph from Hobbyroms has a rom-burning service, and is well regarded, so I'll ping him and see if he can help me out.

I would like to keep one mobo for one cart, and I don't plan on getting any other carts for this board (famous last words...) so the region convert is probably best.
