The Playstation Move Thread

Post by Friendly »

Inspired by this thread I'm creating this new general topic about good Playstation Move games.
Unlike Kinect, which due to its extreme lag sucks for "core" gaming (at least for games that require quick reaction), there are some pretty good games for Sony's motion controller.

I'd like to start by recommending Dead Space Extraction HD, which is an upgraded version of the Wii game. You can buy it either on Disc (which I prefer) as part of the Dead Space 2 Limited Edition, or purchase it on PSN.

My next purchase is probably going to be House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut, which has just been released for PS Move.

Could definitely see myself jump ship to Playstation once the Wii is fully dead. I love the FPS controls and rail shooters they've released on it and looking at Wii U, they're going to throw that all away.

Dead Space Extraction is utterly brilliant. Such an intense atmosphere and more of a narrative focus, with surprisingly good voice acting. HOTD: Overkill is a bit distracting with all the gore and body parts that fly around, but is definitely worth the purchase. It's also really funny. What's changing for the extended edition on Move? The only thing I didn't like was that the bosses posed no challenge whatsoever :(

They're also doing up the Wii Resi Chronicles games, though apparently only in Japan so far. Well worth a look for PS3 owners who've not played the Wii versions.

Heh, I think it's past that point now, after Skyward Sword has finally been released. And even before that, Wii was mostly a zombie (at least mine only came back to life about once a year) :P

Since I haven't played it yet, I don't know (I tried to avoid any spoilers).

Anyone played Kung Fu Rider (office chair downhill racer)? It's the only Move-exclusive game that interested me at all.

Tumble is the game that has impressed me the most. Not a bad multiplayer game either

Razing Storm and The Shoot are good.

Razing Storm also includes Dead Storm Pirates and Time Crisis 4 on the same disc. Time Crisis 4 has just the arcade mode (no Captain Rush FPS "Complete Mission" mode), but it does add online leaderboards. In Japan this package is called "Big 3 Gun Shooting". One caveat: TC4 has the same slowdown as its original PS3 port UNLESS you play it in 640 x 480. The US version "Time Crisis: Razing Storm" has been out for a year and can be found for less than $30.

The Shoot is a Hollywood movie set themed gun game. Like Hogan's Alley, the characters are cardboard cut-outs and you need to be sure you don't shoot innocents. You have a special technique called the Rampage which lets you fire machine gun style, and the Showtime powerup triggers slow-motion (you have to spin around to use it which can be a tad awkward at first).

I wouldn't be surprised if the RE Chronicles ports make it out in the USA eventually.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

@gameoverDude
Biohazard Chronicles HD Selection (consisting of Umbrella Chronicles Darkside Chronicles) was announced only a month ago. It will certainly get an international release, and maybe pop up on PSN, too. Of course you could always import since PS3 is region free, but there is really no need.

@nem
Tumble is definitely impressive, as it's showcasing Move's spacial tracking and precission. If someone claims "Move is just like Wii MotionPlus" all you have to do is show them Tumble, and they'll eat their words.

Has anyone played No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise with Move?

Although it's optional through an update, I've heard Heavy Rain does alright through Move controls.

TBH though , I don't think either the Move or Kinect really have any real life in them at this point, especially the Move.

Hmm? While Kinect is 99% casual shovelware, the software selection of Move is leaps and bounds above. And Move support isn't drying up, quite the oposite. Many new games support it, eg the recently released GoldenEye 007:Reloaded and the upcoming Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD.

Finding it strange no-one has mentioned Child of Eden yet :p

Don't know how it plays on the move but if you enjoyed Rez it's worth buying. It basically has better gameplay/scoring mechanics but a bit different music and visual design.

I'm dying to get a move and play my copy of Rzing storm, but I think I need a little more incentive like say HotD Collection with HotD4.

No more heroes... I've played that and Killzone 3 on the move.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Played some older Move titles today, and Kung Fu Rider was one of them. Surprisingly, not awful. Gameplay reminds me a bit of Tony Hawks Downhill Jam (which I enjoyed immensely) and the move controls work well. On the flip side, it's very light on content and the few stages it has are very samey. Honestly, it should have been a PSN download from day one like Tumble. However, considering it can be picked up for next to nothing (cost me five euros new), it's worth a look.

Also, frisbee golf in Sports Champion is superb.

After finally picking up a copy I can confirm that it's a fun game, and can be had for peanuts now.

Biohazard Chronicles HD Selection is about to be released on disc in Japan. It's going to be released in the west next month as 'Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection', unfortunately there won't be a physical relase (PSN only).

I played my friend's copy of Umbrella Chronicles on Wii when it came out. I can't recommend it, it's just a mediocre zombie shooting gallery outclassed by practically every Japanese arcade gun game ever made. It also feels like an insult to the original RE's carefully crafted survival horror to have you mowing everything in the mansion down and blowing locked doors off their hinges without a care. With three HotD games available across the Wii and PS3 now, it's especially unnecessary.

Cavia put a huge amount of love into their own games (Drakengard, Bullet Witch, NIER), but were clearly apathetic about outsourced work. Too bad they're gone now.

You are wrong in almost every respect.

Umbrella Chronicles is a very good shooting gallery. It's about accuracy, not blasting everything with thousands of bullets. It's the opposite of an arcade lightgun game like HOTD, but it's still really good for what it is. The key to the game is pulling off critical hits with your pea shooter pistol and getting an S rank. Sure you get other weapons that are needed in certain circumstances, but timing and accuracy pay off big time in this game. If you want to go around blasting everything you can but you will be nowhere on the online leaderboards. It's like a shmup, playing for survival is relatively easy, going for score is where the game comes into it's own.

Racking up critical hits is immensely satisfying, and slow lumbering zombies (remember, proper zombies don't run... unless they're crimson heads) are the perfect target. The graphics and atmosphere are also very good, the mansion looks great (using the same assets as Remake). It's also quite a long game, covering 4 "stories" each starting out with 3-4 chapters and then unlocking another 2-4 chapters per story. The original Resi games were not fast paced, and this is an attempt to keep that pacing but still remain interesting even though you're on rails.

I'll be downloading it and playing on my pitiful portable...

I picked one up a while back and want to fire up House of the Dead 4 but can't find the damn camera. I was a bit unimpressed with it but probably didn't give it a fair chance.

Try out Tumble, that's all you need to see to realize how much superior to other current motion controllers PS Move is. Or were you just talking about House of the Dead 4?

House of the Dead: Overkill is AMAZING. Probably my favourite "casual" pick up and play game this generation.

I am looking forward to the Resident Evil "Chronicles" games, and I hear that the new (downloadable?) House of the Dead will incorporate Move controls too...

I have some questions about the Move as I'm looking into buying it for the lightgun games. I have a PS2 Sony camera, will that work fine or will I need to buy the Eye specifically for the PS3? Also, in order to play the gun games, will I need both the wand and the navi controller? Finally, how is the callibration been, generally, for these types of games? I hated having to callibrate the Guncon 3 on the PS3 and it frustrated to the point where I didn't want to play it anymore.

Picked up a Move with HotD 3 & 4 + the Time Crisis pack some time ago, don't regret it one bit. HotD 4 is probably the all-around best light gun shooter of all time. I still need to get a gun attachment, though.
