I certainly wasnt happy when steam first came to be, I might have been a PC gamer since Half Life 1 but I only got online a few years back. Half Life 2 was the first game to introduce steamworks, I bought it new at full price without knowing that I couldnt play it, and couldnt trade it in even though itr was still shrink wrapped. So it sat on my shelf for years until I got online. However nowadays PC gaming is no longer in its golden era, and most PC games are no longer sold in shops. Steam and Valve for the most part are the best we can get, and actually has been very helpful in nuturing indie devs and niche genres on the platform. So in a way steam both has made PC gaming alot worse and better in regards to different things.Estebang wrote:And yes, PC gamers have some terrible entitlement issues. I don't know how such a demographic ever came to tolerate, even welcome the tyranny of Gabe Newell's Steam. (Probably because every other form of PC game distribution has gone to shit.)
You havnt been on the Escapist Forums have youCasper<3 wrote: This forum and other places have really put a sour taste in my mouth about PC gamers. I really am starting to dislike the general populous as a whole. Nothing is ever good enough for them.
Seriously FUCK PC gamers. Go sit on your mountain on your pedistol on your soft cushion and let the rest of us enjoy our games.

Since ive really been the only person to mention PC gaming recently ild guess you are thinking of me. While I dont want to get into a full discussion about PC gaming, its a whole cannery of worms, where the message never gets across due to trolls and (bad) elitists plus readers thinking in absolutes and having preconcieved notions about where PC gamers are coming from.
What I will say is not every point a PC gamer is making is purely elitism and over entilement. I think there are some double standards with console gamers as they do just the same thing but its seen as an ok thing (motion control, iphone games). What non PC gamers need to understand is that many of the western games that are now on consoles are old PC games, which in some aspects have been dumbed down for a mainstream audience.
Whats worse is that many of these games are shoddily ported to the PC, that are missing important features like FoV, graphics options etc that allow them to run as they should. Console gamers dont need these options because things work fine for the most part without them. Then they are often DRMed up the arsehole
The best way I can explain it is this: CAVE make games for the arcade and then port to console and smartphones, even though smartphone ports exist it largely doent affect 360 gamers (infact its a win - win due to increased sales) But if CAVE were to develop there games for iphone first then port to arcades and consoles with sloppy pad/ stick controls, low def graphics and all the slowdown removed its would be a different thing entirely. Would it be over entitlement of its existing customer base if Esp Galuda 3 was such product?
I Dont think that all consoles games are dumbed down far from it, but a good console game isnt a good PC game
