Is it just me or are there a lot more selectable characters in this game?

I am judging by the cardboard cutouts...

Cave's usually not one for lots of selectable crafts/characters though...I think those might be images of both the "normal" and "kakusei" forms of the characters, and maybe one or two of the villains are up there too. Just my guess though.

I'm so ALL OVER the soundtrack when it comes out!
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Hopefully it will be a little bit more manic than the first one - the screenshots don't give much away

That is a really thin laser on the main character (Ageha?)

Net City's have been out for at least a couple years (I've seen pic of them at the last 2-3 AM shows).

I can't fucking wait. It looks like I"ll get a bout 3 hours at the show on Saturday, so I will definitely be able to give this a spin, although from the screenshots, it looks like I'd be picking it up anyway.

Icy: Ibara had all those cut outs and they were enemies. I'd think there's the new Galuda, Asagi, and who knows. Maybe a much older Ageha and Tateha again. Also, I won't have a mobile until I'm back into town, so looks like you'll be on your own at the show. :(

Re; Sega Cabs
At least a few years. Net City was out by the time VF4 was out and that was what? 4 years ago?

Not sure if this is bad news for you guys wanting a hard game or not:
また序盤のステージは比較的やさしくなっているので、初心者でもプレイしやすくなっているのが嬉しい。
The opening stage is pretty simple, so great for beginners.

If you look on the side it says "NEW Net City". I thought they looked new because of what appears to be a flat screen (I don't know if the Net City has one), control panel, and side art.

I'm with ya, brutha! As long as you don't mind flying with my wife and 2 year old daughter. My daughter is only demanding 99.9% of the time!

Anywho...

Amazing how Cave's game designers can make 2 screen shots look drop-dead gorgeous! That's right, suckas, we still have 2-D in 2005! Tain't goin away!

That is friggin' sweet. Hopefully Taito will come out with a PS2 port if Arika doesn't grab it. Thank you, Cave- for showing that 2D is still going strong.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I'd bet my house that it's Jamma.

Streaming video of their booth up, but is a total dick tease. No ESPGalud II shots... at all. Also looks like IKD-san has discovered the wonderful world of methamphetamines.

Link in the top right corner of the page.
http://www.cave.co.jp/event/am2005/index.html

There are more details on the developers... basically Ikeda-san talking about how he loves shooting games (making and playing) etc. etc. They do mention that ESPGaluda II will be enjoyed by both beginners and advanced players. So, what we know so far:

-It looks pretty fucking solid
-They apparently had a nice little line of people waiting to play it
-Ikeda-san is behind the programming (most likely)
-Namiki-san is behind the "sound".
-Reko and Tateha apparently like the game (see pic at the bottom of the page)

EDIT:
Asagi? Cosplay
http://www.mainichi-msn.co.jp/entertain ... i/181.html

Better shot of the cardboard people. Call me a dope smoking asshole, but I think Ageha and Tateha are coming back)

Pretty far-away, can't see shit quality mpg. Better than nothing.
http://uppp.dip.jp/src/uppp10505.mpg

EDIT AGAIN:
Confirmed by an ad in the latest Arcadia (which hopefully Icarus will scan since I'm too busy) that Ageha and Tateha will in fact reappear. So, 3 selectable characrters. Icy -- you were right, sort of. Those are selectable characters, but of course, each one has two sexes. Asagi, is actually a girl (whom I assume turns into a boy in Kakusei mode).

And fuck me in the goat-ass baby -- scheduled for a December release!

Thanks, Gaijin Punch.

SF told me about it a bit.

Yes 3 characters.

He said the new character in Rapier mode has "ghosts" that home in and kill enemies. Max power you get 6 of them.

Hit-box is shown when the button is held down.

Scoring system is mostly the same but there is a new addition that is not understood.

In Mushihime Uo Poko wtf I don't know...

You only have to release the beetle to clear a round.

You fight the bosses from the game.

The latest Arcadia (October issue) is on it's way from Play-Asia, and I missed the September issue (had to order that from Akadot). Once they arrive, I'll see what kind of shmup-related articles are inside, and scan them in for you guys to look at.

Oh come on now. The PS2 is a great supplement to emulation. There are LOTS of great recent and un-emulated shmups on the PS2. I can understand if you can't afford it, but to refuse to own one because you want mame to do it instead is kind of unrealistic I think.

No I have a problem with SCEA's Policies against 2d. Like most people.
I also just have a problem with Sony in general.

Their policies against 2-d don't really seem to be too valid...as far as the import scene. I guess I still don't get why people have to bring.."politics" in to video games. We should just play them...

Anyways, ESPGaluda II looks friggin' incredible. I'm hoping they do the quick pricedrop to the pcb ala Ibara..

Aye. Why complain about SCEA's policies? SCEJ is the one we're dealing with (since they're japanese releases, after all) and they have no issues whatsoever with 2D as evidence shows.

If you want to play a specific game but refuse to buy/can't afford the game itself or the hardware it plays on...well, you're just going to have to learn how to live without it.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
