You should try it. Normal does feel natural, but reverse just makes more sense to me. You'll be evading bullets, right? And you'll wanna kill whatever shot them. So during the evade you can also set your sights on the enemy.iconoclast wrote:I've never tried using reverse rotation since normal feels perfectly natural to me.Special World wrote:Do you guys play in normal or reverse? I use reverse. To me it feels like the difference between playing a FPS with the y axis inverted or not. I can't play at all unless I have Y inverted.Special World wrote:You should try it. If you have a plan (presumably for scoring, since there isn't much more to it than planning which things you're going to kill with a rocket), normal rotation is often more comfortable.Special World wrote:You should try it. I find Reverse to be more comfortable, also.
I wonder if I should have got the 360 version instead. It's a pain to find yourself in ranking, and it seems like my score doesn't show up as quickly as you'd expect. Not that I'm any good.

Re: Under Defeat HD
I use Normal. I find it far more intuitive for the direction of my shot to correspond to the direction I'm pressing on the joystick. Also, I just managed to pull my first 2-All on the 360 Arcade Mode (I really wish I had been recording). But I know I can do better, so I'll make it a point to record a session this weekend.

I rolled it over before work this morning. Lots of creaks and groans until it finally settled. I will need to build a custom stand, though. The TV lays too far back and there is nothing to rest it on. I had to stand over it with my arcade stick on a barstool. LOLburgerkingdiamond wrote:There is absolutely nothing to worry about with tipping that baby over. Nothing will happen, it won't break. It can't be that heavy I've pulled the CRT out of my cab a couple times (29") by myself and that's way harder than tipping a TV on it's side. The only thing that will happen is there will be some discoloration. It's completely expected and just the nature of CRT technology. You can fix it with a magnet or degaussing wand. I'm not trying to be condescending, but I have no idea of you're experience level for this stuff so don't be offended.
Just give it a shot.

Ahh. So the plastic case isn't really squarish in the back. That's what's nice about those industrial monitors like the PVMs. There cubes so there's no problem Tateing at all.
You could always decase the CRT and build a box out of MDF to stick it in.

I wouldn't advise that unless you know what you are doing. CRT's can discharge massive voltages even after being unplugged for a long time.burgerkingdiamond wrote:Ahh. Re: Under Defeat HD
It's not a big deal to decase a CRT. Don't stick your finger under the anode suction cup and you're fine. Swapping the tube would be another story because you'd have to discharge the high voltage.

Maybe in the future. My current living situation won't allow for much custom building.burgerkingdiamond wrote:Ahh. So the plastic case isn't really squarish in the back. That's what's nice about those industrial monitors like the PVMs. There cubes so there's no problem Tateing at all.

Assuming you're playing the 360 version, you'll be seeing what I posted in this response. That's as good as it gets until G.Rev release a patch that addresses 4:3 screens.Trevor spencer wrote:Im trying to Tate this on my CRT and can get the screen looking ok but the HUD seems completly off , Ive used the overscan and its still not rightany ideas

So, with the speed difference, and all the other little differences...is this just a different version or take on UD, rather than a port?

Considering that both enemy placement and the score system are intact, I stick by what I said earlier: UD-HD Arcade Mode is a messy port.evil_ash_xero wrote:So, with the speed difference, and all the other little differences...is this just a different version or take on UD, rather than a port?

Re: Under Defeat HD
Here are some random high-level observations from a guy who barely played the original Under Defeat and now happily owns the PS3 limited edition.
- I use Normal control but after reading some of your posts, maybe I'll give Reverse a spin.
- The game seemed easy enough up until 1-3 then it got pretty nasty in 1-4. Haven't beat it yet (just got it 2 days ago)
- I'm guessing Cannon is the preferred option? Rocket is too slow to recharge and Vulcan is pretty lame IMHO.
- Disappointed that options don't stack/upgrade a la Raiden. Score bonus is nice though.
- This game is surprisingly generous when it comes to bombs.
- Original soundtrack sounds much better than Arrange (plus arrange lacks Boss themes, WTF?)
- This is a shame because I'm normally a fan of Yousuke Yasui!! Eschatos + Mamoru Kun were awesome.
- I mostly stick to New Order because I enjoy full 16:9, but I'll certainly try to beat Arcade to get the trophies.
- It passes the girlfriend test. She loves that it's a no-brainer shoot-shit-up game without a complex scoring system. And I get to unlock credits through 2P games.
- Once I beat New Order and Arcade I foresee very little replay value. The package could have used an extra scenario like G.Rev did with Strania, but it doesn't seem like UDHD will support DLC.
Question: Can anybody explain in clear terms how the score multiplier works?
Overall I'm quite satisfied with this being a full retail package than a downloadable title. Certainly enjoying this a lot more than Bullet Soul. Here's to Border Down HD!

Re: Under Defeat HD
Rocket is good for eliminating groups of enemies at once, which can give you good point gains. You have to be smart about where you use it though. I bought the LE and watched a bit of the Superplay DVD, and the player uses Rocket almost exclusively for scoring.
Re: Under Defeat HD
Try them both, see which feels better, go with that one. This really does end up being personal preference more than anything else.denpanosekai wrote:- I use Normal control but after reading some of your posts, maybe I'll give Reverse a spin.
In Arcade Mode, Rocket is easily the best Option type: immense damage output combined with a significant splash damage radius. Plus it's a single use only, so less concern of it being destroyed by enemy counter fire. In New Order Mode... who the hell knows. Precise Option pod placement is a chore in this mode and the eclectic enemy placement doesn't really help.denpanosekai wrote:- I'm guessing Cannon is the preferred option? Any sort of Option stacking would just break the game. As is, understanding how to use use Option Pod Power-ups to recharge is an important tactic.denpanosekai wrote:- Disappointed that options don't stack/upgrade a la Raiden. Score bonus is nice though.
You receive 9 collectable bombs per loop (1 in stage 1 and then 2 in each of the following stages... this then repeats in the second loop). Remaining bombs in stock at the end of a level are 10,000 pts each, and collecting a bomb item with a full stock (6) during a stage yields 10,000 pts per extra bomb. So bombs are tied heavily into score.denpanosekai wrote:- This game is surprisingly generous when it comes to bombs.
The new Arrange tracks are weak in comparison to those found in the DC release.denpanosekai wrote:- Original soundtrack sounds much better than Arrange (plus arrange lacks Boss themes, WTF?)
You'll unlock Free Play after the 8 hour mark.denpanosekai wrote:- It passes the girlfriend test. She loves that it's a no-brainer shoot-shit-up game without a complex scoring system. And I get to unlock credits through 2P games.
You could always try playing for score. New Order Mode is the extra/new scenario. Beyond that, G.Rev wanted a quick turnaround in this game's production. See their comments about the possibility of there being a Border Down HD.denpanosekai wrote:- Once I beat New Order and Arcade I foresee very little replay value. Anything destroyed by Option Pod fire will be given a 2x value. Anything destroyed by the copter's main fire will yield default values.denpanosekai wrote:Question: Can anybody explain in clear terms how the score multiplier works?

Thanks for the comments. Care to elaborate on this one?As is, understanding how to use use Option Pod Power-ups to recharge is an important tactic.
Re: Under Defeat HD
How recharging works... if you have deployed an option pod and a power-up is floating around the screen, assuming the power-up is the same weapon as what you're using, you must wait until the option pod has detonated (thus putting your option pod gage into Cool Down mode) before picking up the power-up. This cancels the cool down time, making the option pod immediately ready for deployment again.denpanosekai wrote:Thanks for the comments. I doubt they realize anything is wrong. Or if they do, I doubt they think that anyone cares enough.
We could hit their facebook with videos and screen caps taken, but that's about all we can do.
Re: Under Defeat HD
Just got this, my first 360 purchase for almost a year.
Managed to get it fullscreen tate on my 21" crt and the HUD isn't really fucked up at all (just a bit lower at the top than it should be, not intrusive at all). Liking it so far, though I'm progressing in baby steps at the moment.
And thanks to forum members Kiken and Stryc9, without your contributions to this thread (about the screen) I wouldn't have laid down the money for this. Bad news regarding the PS3 version, hopefully It'll get patched.
