I really appreciate the efforts of Super Fighter Team to save this piece of gaming history from oblivion and I want to be interested in it for just that. I want to like the game but I can't because it really just looks shitty. It looks like one of the many throwaway SNES titles we got back then you'd kick yourself for not purchasing Super Metroid or Contra III over.

On a side note, I'm a pretty big fan of Midnight Wanderers (& Chariot), but this just doesn't take the cake.

Estebang wrote:Well, I managed to track down the ROM. Not a bad game, and I can't accuse it of being easy, but it completely lacks any kind of pacing or thoughtful level design. Bosses are easily defeated by spamming the bomb items and invincible dash. Levels are just long stretches of identical terrain with no landmarks and little variety. Enemies just charge at you in mindless hordes, instead of with the unique behavior and careful placement that characterizes Midnight Wanderers, the game Arcade Zone was obviously aping. It's even got the same "collect 100 items for a 1up" mechanic, only with dominoes instead of heart cards. The music is just some random notes. At least there's no stolen sprites, as far as I can tell.

Glad I didn't pay $70 for it! Now, have there been any repro carts of Starfox 2? That's something I would gladly shell out for, although the Super FX chip is probably holding them back.
I read somewhere that the version Super Fighter Team has is different from the ROM and more polished. I think it was a post on the Digital Press forums, if I remember correctly. I'm still a bit skeptical of the game, though.

Edit: I went to http://www.nightmarebusters.com/ and it now says the preorder limit has been reached.

Of course this doesn't apply generally to freeware things - copyright restrictions still apply. If I freely upload a work, I don't therefore give people the right to resell it. They can "profit" from it by personal use, and unless I specifically state that it's OK to make commercial products with it (i.e. much open source software) I could claim that copyright is being violated by commercial use (I think this would stand in the US too).

Speaking of Blade Buster, though:

Well, I'm glad I was able to find the ROM, so I know I'm not missing out on anything now that this is sold out. I can't imagine how they'd meaningfully polish up the game without some serious modifications.

Is there even any difference between the tornado and wind blade bomb items?
