As someone who isnt into the PCB scene, I see it as something similar to the mainstream PC - console thing, ie PC / PCB gamers have certain standards / requirements for them to enjoy the genre, ie the best experience they can get with their money) occasionally PCBers and non PCBers have been dicks about it in the past.

I think it has a lot to do with what enjoyment you're after. Speaking as someone that grew up dropping quarters into arcade machines, that's the experience that is desired.

In that light, perfecting a difficult spot in Ketsui using MAME and save states is just a completely different thing altogether.


I know baseball fans that are all about the stats, so they sit at a game with their nose in a scorecard and pencil in hand. Personally, I just like the fun of sitting in the stands on a nice day.. enjoying a beer and the energy of the fans.

Another dirty Touhou faggot here. I don't consider any of the characters to be my fictional waifu but even if I did I would still be better off than people who'd drop several hundreds of dollars on a PCB.

I got into shmups through Touhou and I'm still sticking with the good ones. Scoring usually never moves beyond the 'I'd like to get a better score in this game' and usually ends up in the 'memorizing things is tedious' area so its almost entirely survival play from me, sometimes augmented with certain 'silly' challenges like doing things without bombs or similar.
