In-shmup shopping

Post by PooshhMao »

Hi,

I'm looking for wee spaceship shooties (or sidescrollers) that feature in-game shops, think Xenon II, Forgotten Worlds, Fantasy Zone, Tyrian, etc.

Been a while since something worth playing came out that has a shop, and I really like this feature, can people recommend games that has this?

Blood Money has it, but I only can recommend the C64 version. And even that one is not quite one of the better shmups out there.

X-Out has a shop that really blends well with the game's mechanics, but it's full of useless weapons (like the one in Xenon II) and the game overall is poorly executed (gameplay-wise), so I wouldn't bother. Still, there are some interesting ideas in the game.

Disposable Hero doesn't really have a shop, IIRC, but stations with weapon upgrades. I have never played it, but a lot of people like the game.

Mr. Heli no Daibouken has shops. The PCE version is excellent.

Jets'n'Guns is another game with lots of shops that sell pretty but useless weapons. The game isn't impressive, but the soundtrack (done by the almighty Machinae Supremacy) is nothing short of stunning.

Gunac features a "shop"...sort of anyway.

How about 1943? Isn't there a shop of sorts involved, or is it just at the begining, you can distrubute points to certain weapons etc.

In 1943 (NES) you get more points to distribute when you get certain items hidden in the game.

Stargunner (PC) is another shmup where you can buy weapons, etc.

Macross 2036 features a shop-like system. You can select a weapon that can only be used if your score is above the minimum required for that.

StrikeForce arcade also has a shop where you can buy powerups in exchange for crystals.

Alpha Mission 2 also lets you buy armors for your ship in between levels, in addition to the ones you find in the game.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
