Megadrive 2 50/60hz Sync Issue

Post by Beaps »

Hi All,

I am trying to run my Megadrive 2 console on my Samsung LCD Tv.

I am using the official scart & it is a Pal machine that has had the 50/60hz mod done. 50hz has no issues but when I flick the switch to 60hz I am having sync issues.

Any ideas what I do to sort this out?

Hello,

You need a c-sync based (rather than composite) RGB cable with some extra components. Samsung TVs are nigh on all incompatible with Megadrives in 60Hz.

Specifically though I'm saying this will fix your issue 100%. I had a Samsung TV when in the UK and I had to do this with Genesis 2. Genesis 1 sync doesn't work on it though, it needs a buffer on the sync line or the console needs fixing (outputs weak sync until you mod it, the details are on mmmonkey's site.)

But Genesis 2, yes that can be fixed with a proper sync cable.
