moving in berlin need some infos ) update now

Post by Aguraki »

hi I'm moving in berlin early march and I know absolutely nothing about the city.
I'm gonna buy a laptop there, anyone knows of computers shop (looking for cheap config) around?(either small shop or wall mart/carrefour style)
Any arcades down there?
Also any nice club/pub if you know any?

I'll be north west around Scharnweberstraße (yeah I pasted it  ).
I've looked in shmupmeets but it was ghost town for germany.

edit :lol title typo gotta learn to write the name of the city I'm gonna live in at least

I live pretty close to the Scharnweberstraße, so meeting up shouldn't be a problem.
You should probably order the laptop online, if you want a decent price.
No arcades around Berlin, as far as I know.
But a few private persons (myself included) own a cab.
Clubs and pubs are way too much, you won't have much trouble finding one.
In fact in the Scharnweberstraße is the "Schnarup", a Punk / Hardcore shithole.
Pretty nice concerts if you are into that sort of thing.

I kinda passed my punk phase and I'm more in minimal/electro/trance but I do like a lot of stuff too (bungle zorn dan deacon and bonobo archive etc...) I'll check it out.

About buying online I want to get the laptop from berlin cause I'm short on luggages space.
I've checked amazon.de which is the only site I know but is all in german(didn't try google translate yet).
The computer will be priority #1 when I arrive so if anyone knows better than amazon your welcome (I'll get something around €500 yeah I'm cheap).

I'll be happy to meet shmupers I'll open or bump a thread in shmupmeet for that.

If you need to have one the day you arrive, Media Markt, Saturn, Cyberport or K&M Elektronik are the ones to check out.
(All of them except Cyberport can be found at the Alexanderplatz)

You can PM me your contact info on AIM / ICQ / SKYPE / MSN or whatever.

Some Berlin tips!

Computerspiele museum
-They got a PAINSTATION, man! You need to ask the clerks if you want to play it, sign discharge from liability papers and well, suffer.

King Kong Club
-Nice bar with eccentric atmosphere and people, theme nights
- http://www.king-kong-klub.de/

White Trash restaurant
-Big restaurant with live music, a club in the cellar, delicious food (kitchen open until 1am), film posters from Ghana, tv's playing old trashy horror films like Tarantula...

Clubs: Go read www.residentadvisor.net for the club listings. Here are some of my favorites:

Berghain
-Always have a backup plan, because the doormen just randomize who they let in and who they tell to GTFO. Other than that, well, it's be best club in the world

Ritter Butzke
-Big underground-style club with many stages for different types of music. Live bands and electro/techno

KitKat Club
-Great techno & trance fetish club. It's Germany, so there will be naked people and fucking of course. Dress code, but not very strict actually.

Tresor
-If you can't get in to KitKat, Tresor is nearby and saves your night

Liquidrom thermal ambient spa
-Stylish buddhist type decoration, big pool with salt water and underwater speakers, outdoor hot tub, other pools, four different saunas.. and at least I didn't see any annoying kids or old people. For those times when you really need to recharge your mental and physical batteries
- www.liquidrom-berlin.de
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

I would order the computer from amazon, as it's the cheapest and has the easiest returns policy.

Here's some info on ordering from the site in English: http://www.amazon.de/gp/help/customer/d ... eId=505532

Shocky's list of clubs is pretty excellent, I can recommend all these places.

With Berghain, don't go there in a large group and don't dress preppy, or you will certainly be turned away. The best time to go is in the early morning hours on Sundays.

There are some even wilder clubs than KitKat, but it depends what you are into.

There's really too many bars to even start listing them, but usually they are clustered around certain areas. Examples would be Schlesisches Tor, Oranienstraße and Bergmannstraße in Kreuzberg or Simon-Dach-Straße in Friedrichshain.

Würgeengel and Solar are two of my favorite bars just to relax with a drink or take out a date.

Jockel and I host some shmeets from time to time, next time we will let you know.

Lucky man. I went to Berlin earlier this month for a break and fell in love with the place. Will be going back shortly if I can get the money together.

I'd pawn my wife and child just to spend one night in Jockels fraternal dungeon of pain... I gotta get over there someday and see how that city swings for myself.

will leave berlin at the end of the month to go live in malta where weather will be kinder to me.
didn´t enjoy the city overall (shitty weather and terrble food) even tho there are some amazing clubs and bars all around.
I don´t care about art nor culture so I´m not exactly at my place but I can understand why people enjoy this city.

burning flat to ashes and throwing everything away (posted in trading if anyone want a crt come get it).
