Dragons vs Spaceships

Post by zendor118 »

Just saw this on the indievania website. Looks like it maybe a decent shmup... certainly the price is right ($1)!
If anyone is interested, there is a teaser and a brief description of the game as well as a link to purchase the game:

I was really hoping this was a legitimate argument thread over which was better. I would have interjected with robots.

Looks above average for an indie game, but I find myself put off by the usual generic XNA graphics. I'm interested to know if anyone else here has played this and has any input on it.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Interesting concept, but I'm concered about the gameplay - even watching the teaser it seems the rate of fire is so low that small fry easily get through. Also, there doesn't seem to be any indication of how big the hitbox is (presumably it's the central body of the dragon?).

Damn that rate of fire is really, really slow. Also, the enemy patterns... well, they're looking really generic. Is it me or does it look like there's a bit of inertia during movement? Other than maybe the concept, it's not really grabbing me...

I played the demo of this on Xbox a few weeks back and found it to be ponderous, shallow and ugly.
It's like someone you meet in a bar who buys you a drink but as soon as you start talking to them you realise they're an asshole...

I played it too. mjclark is exactly correct. Also, bad Compile padding.

Should have just trusted the respectable, trustworthy individuals up there. Can I have my minute back?

This. Slow fire rate [here, let's throw dozens of enemies you can't possibly kill on screen at you], boring looking... well... everything [enemies that do nothing/nearly nothing!], and extremely meh graphics.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
