Deadspace 1 & 2
Deadspace 1 & 2
Anyone here played these games? I don't really like TPS games but loved DOOM 3 so am kinda wondering if these games are worthwhile.
Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I've played through about half of Deadspace 1. Really good survival horror. Weapons are all pretty unique and really fun to use. I especially like that everything is presented within the game world - even game menus. Ammo isn't as scarce as in the earlier resident evils but you still gotta make difficult inventory choices. I'd recommend. You can probably get it dirt cheap anyway, by now.

Dead Space 1 is one of my favorite games on PS3/360, 2 isn't. 2 is much more action packed, it's nowhere scary or atmospheric and unlike 1's normal, 2's normal difficulty HAS tons of ammo everywhere, crazy.

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Dead Space 1 kinda has the same vibe as Doom 3, so you may like it. It's a decent game, but the level design is kinda bland and there's lots of backtracking IIRC. Dead Space 2 is more action oriented, and I'd say it's an improvement over the original in just about every way. It also has a "hardcore" difficulty, where you can only save the game 3 times, and if you die you're sent back to your previous save. I thought that was pretty fun.
Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Dead Space 1 was awesome.
Dead Space 2 was OK. It played out more like an over the top excessive action game though, mostly because it was.
You ever play Quake 4? You said you liked Doom 3. Quake 4 wasn't as scary but it had it's moments, and it wasn't really much more repetitive then Doom 3. Actually, it probably had more story in it then Doom 3 did, and some of the models and level textures were outright disturbing (moreso then Doom 3). As I recall Prey came out around the same time, that was another decent game, though the ending seriously sucked.

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Having played Dead Space 1 I'd add that it starts to grow old about half way through. By the time I fought my way through the end I never really wanted to play it again. It is very much a RE4 knockoff, but RE4 is a game I can go back to again and again.
I've never played DS2, but the comments here (and the demo) don't give me any particular urge to check it out.

Oh yea, I'm a huge ID fanboy and have all the games made with Doom 3 engine (save Brink).CMPXCHG8B wrote:Dead Space 1 was awesome.

I liked Quake 4 but the enemy design was rather distracting. Deff enjoy it though. I have Prey as well, haven't finished it yet though.

Can't speak for the sequel, but Dead Space 1 is a really shitty game.

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! This review is not funny. It is bad, and you, yes, you should feel bad. I'm definitely feeling the action-button-dead-space-review meth. I'm off to play some DOJ now. None of you are as good at karaoke as I am, anyway.

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Deadspace 1 is a fun game, good atmosphere and shooting action. What make it so good is that you cant just shoot enemies, you need to be good with your aiming to chop off their limbs to kill them and makes the game tactical in the same way as say a Doom 3 or Serious Sam even though it is at a slower pace.
I played the Steam version with the m&k on PC. But be warned its a EA game where the devs released PC version with no patches that fixes its laggy mouse problem that crops up with most ppl. Although there is a workaround fix if you toggle vsync and/ play in a window (check the steam forums)
I havnt got around to playing DS2 yet. How is DS extraction on the wii/ ps3?

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I can't recommend Dead Space 2 at all....bad story, not scary at all. Just skip it, seriously.
Dead Space however is one of the best survival horror games out there. It's got TONS of atmosphere, a great story, creepy-ass monsters, and pretty damn solid graphics! Definitely highly recommended in my book!
I haven't played Extraction or the Dead Space cell-phone/tablet game yet but I'm told both are quite good...I have em both, haven't had time. Once you've played through Dead Space, I also recommend the two movies (one traditionally animated, one CGI). They're not great but they add a bit more depth. I'm also reading the novel, which is the story of Robert Altman. Pretty wild

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I loved both of them, got 100% on both.
Dead Space 1 is vastly superior game, but DA2 is still pretty good and worth checking out.

I like them both, 1 is a better horror game while 2 has better gameplay/action and maybe pacing (less backtracking etc.)
also: the background/text colors on that review site aren't exactly making me want to read such a long review, who designed that shit <_<

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
While I honestly haven't touched 1, I loved 2. Replay value drops after a few complete runs, single-mode speaking, but it's good for the first run through, when shit happens while you weren't expecting it, scaring you with cheap darkness and sudden appearances.
Even my little niece loves the game, and played it a few times too (on the Casual mode, of course)

This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

As for Dead Space 1, I'll agree with CMoon that the game grows old after a while. It's a good game and I recommend it, but by the time I reached chapter 6 I wasn't feeling it anymore. I just wanted the game to end.
Never played the sequel, but the demo didn't appeal to me.

The game tends to spawn ammo for the weapons you are carrying at the moment. If you carry 4 guns, you'll end up having almost no ammo for any of them. I realized this early, started over and used only the Plasma and Line Gun. Ammo was never a concern for me.Kaiser wrote:unlike 1's normal, 2's normal difficulty HAS tons of ammo everywhere, crazy.

I enjoyed Dead Space 1, including later play throughs for achievements. I have dead space 2 but not played much, lost interest.

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I loved Dead Space but Dead Space 2 hasn't grabbed me at all, plus my 360 pad has a damaged right stick which makes aiming impossible, so it's done until I can be bothered to buy another one (I find most console ports smoother with a pad because rarely are controls PC optimised). There's too much ammo in Dead Space though, I rarely came close to running dry and that took a lot of the tension away - it was mostly shock and something leaping out in front of you.
Dead Space Extraction was far and away my favourite though. Much more prominent storyline and some solid characters, plus the rail element makes it feel much more tense. And of course that moment right after beating the final boss!

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I'm a big fan of both games but prefer the second over the first. The horror aspect doesn't have much to do with it, I prefer the second because it's simply a more polished experience. I love the story in both and feel that they flow together quite well. They are cheap grabs these days too, i recommend picking them both up. PS3 versions if you can, 2 comes pre-packed with an HD edition of Dead Space Extraction which is a decent little light gun game but nothing to get worked up over.
I'm really enthralled by the world of the Dead Space games. There's a pretty comprehensive background story with lots of mystery still left to be uncovered. It also incorporates elements from so many of my favorite Sci-Fi films. The monoliths from 2001/The Markers, the obvious similarities to Alien and The Thing, etc. Good stuff. I like how Issac's gf has become an Inception style terror to him, and any sequence involving the Hunter/Uber-Morph enemies is some intense stuff. I love it.
If you're pretty good at games I'd suggest ramping up the difficulty a notch from the outset on the second game. It IS a little too easy on normal. On the hardest difficulty the drill sequence at the end is next to impossible but I managed after so many hours.

Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Love both of these games. 1 is quite a bit better than 2. I feel the "RE4" genre doesn't have enough games in it. I've played DS1 three times now, and it doesn't get old. Just a really good game all around.
Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
Thanks for the responses. I picked up one tonight and have a feeling I'll probably end up grabbing two eventually.
Re: Deadspace 1 & 2
I still need to get the first game for 360. I haven't played 1 or 2 get, but I got the iPad game since it was 99 cents and I heard good things and it is interesting so far.

The 90's called. They want their website design back.
Liked both games, couldn't put them down on the first run. Second run is more for me to better master the weapons and hand out some righteous dismemberment.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
