Hi all,

We are pleased to kick off our eXceed 2nd Vampire REX high score contest, AKA the “Sinners & Saints” contest!

The contest starts RIGHT NOW and entries will be accepted until 12pm on Feb 26th (Sunday).

HOW TO WIN?
1) Score high on the Stage 1 of eXceed 2nd Vampire REX demo OR
2) Play the demo and just plain get lucky!

Winners will receive:
• Steam codes for the eXceed Collection
• Packaged versions of the original Japanese eXceed 2nd– Vampire REX, signed by Tennen-sozai circle rep Teratsuki and lead programmer, SUEMAN

Can we post scores here/PM them to you for those of us who are Facebook intolerant? It's a pretty interesting content and I loved Extend 2nd, though the scoring system is a little awkward for a stage 1 only score contest.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw your email address in the full contest rules... is it required to post on Facebook as well?

I haven't tried a stick yet -- does your HRAP have a switch to change the joystick mode? A lot of xbox sticks default to POV hat mode for the joystick, which doesn't work in a lot of software. Either you'll have to switch the mode on the stick itself, or use something like joy2key to map the POV hat to cursor keys.

If you open the USB game controllers control panel applet and look at the properties for the joystick, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Edit: Just checked the specs on Hori's site, doesn't look like there's any way to change it. If there's no way to remap controls in the game itself, you'll have to use joy2key or xpadder or whatever.

Most joysticks map the stick to the cooli-hat directions and not the actual directional controls, with no way of letting you change it yourself. With joy2key you'll be able to map any key on your keyboard to any direction (also cooli-hat) and button on your joystick.

The thing is, I've found that there are lots of doujin games that will happily ignore your joy2key or xpadder settings. They're looking at nothing but the arcade stick or gamepad once you start the game with it, and the only "workaround" (which will vary in effectiveness from game to game) is to start the game with the keyboard and then move to your arcade stick or gamepad that you've used joy2key to remap to keyboard keys.

If you're using an Xbox 360 stick or controller, the best things to do are either dual-mod your stick or setup XBCD and remap the d-pad (your stick) to the left analog stick. I did the latter with my arcade stick, and the adapter I use with my gamepad has a mode where the d-pad will sent left analog inputs.

I don't even know the scoring formulas well enough to understand how to hit 930k in stage 1 Easy Or there's a trick I'm missing somewhere, I'm improved a bit but I'm still well below that...

All I know about the scoring system is from the manuals I've read on the US and Japanese sites - basically chain = good, point-blank = good, and kill boss as fast as possible. Since there aren't that many bullets on the screen in easy mode, I focused more on increasing chain by killing enemies with the reverse shot, and tried to be as close as I could safely manage for each kill.

If no one beats my score by the end, I could release my replay (although it desyncs at the end of the boss unfortunately).

Have you by any chance tried playing the Japanese demo? I'd be interested to know if you get the same error with that.

Wow, there are a lot of good high scores out there. Definitely not going to make it for the top 6 that's for sure but when the contest is over, I really want to see those crazy 900k+ replays.

Argh, my replays always desynch during the boss fight. I tried all the tips posted on the facebook page, but no luck. I just lost another replay with exactly 10,000 points (lowest possible I believe). Oh well, I'm doing it wrong anyway.

Current setup:
Windows 7, Core 2 Duo E8400, GeForce 260GTX, 4gb ram, DirectX 11.

In any case, that's a really long demo! Here I was expecting a stage or two at the most, and it just keeps going. Very generous of our Nyu friends.
