Thanks for putting this together.
By any chance have any of the games on either list been released for the 360 recent;y and are not labeled as such? I want to make sure I have a current list of the highest rated shmups for the 360.

Kind of. The original Mushi got announced for a 360 port, and a bare-bones port of Dodonpachi is an unlockable in the visual novel Instant Brain.

I actually commuted with the PC port in my CD player for a while, some years back.

Gynoug / Bio Hazard Battle / Winds are some neat games, I gotta spend some time with 'em. Been too tied to MAME lately.

That is a beautiful top 5.

Would have been a beautiful top 10 if everyone hadn't fucked it up with Ikaruga.

Yeah Skykid, there's not nearly enough drama in the reception of this year's Top 25. What gives?! Therefore, we ought to manufacture some.

How the heck did Pork rank so high. Do that many people here have the 360 port? I like the game, but top ten?

I missed 2011 votes. So, when exactly will 2012 votes takes place? As it seems that the date is not specific each year and it has been shifted towards summer in relation to Spring of previous years...

Afaik 2011's only happened when someone complained that "we haven't done this years yet". So, only time will tell.

I sure hope so. It's been a few years, would be interesting to see how things have changed. And we could make it 2013 while we're at it.

The 2011 top 25 "of all time" list actually a pretty bad selection (quite unrepresentative): There is exactly one game made prior to 1996 (R-Type), and 50% of the games in the list are by Cave. That's a bit sad.

Are you saying that people who voted are biased or are you saying that it's sad that no other company than Cave make good shmups?

Not really, it's just evidence that the more modern titles provide something that's felt is missing in the majority of earlier titles.

I'd like to see a different list - a "top ## shmups of all time" where the number is determined by the first year a title qualifying as a valid shmup was released, and each year is allowed just one title.

It's obviously bias. >_>
I suggest making a new rule for this year: no top 25 list may include more than 5 entries per company. If you can't do that, then it's probably pretty easy to tell you haven't played enough shmups!

I kinda dislike the idea on principal, but it's probably worth it to get rid of some of the Cave.

(Seriously, 11 Cave games in the top 25, 8 in the honorable mentions? Hell no! Cave only has three games that are even remotely worthy of a "best of" list, anyways.)

Because having the results accurately represent the opinions of the forum is horrible.

I think the top 25 should consist of nothing except cave games.

I certainly don't like every Cave game on this list, but restricting what people are allowed to vote for is just silly. It's not like this list was ever meant to be objective in any way

Now let's get a new list rolling so I can give 25 points to Burunyanman

I know that. I'm not trying to force an objective list, I just want to see a diverse list. I don't think that's asking too much to consider when voting. I mean, I have some games on my list I do not care for all that much... I could easily replace them with some that I do enjoy, but I think these games are still worth checking out even if they're not objectively 'good'.

Now that's a good idea! While we are at it, any threads in this forum unrelated to Cave should be moved to off-topic. Obviously any negativity towards Cave should be outright deleted.

Next I suggest a new name for this forum, maybe something like cave-stg.

And still, the first and second place are Raizing games.

Frankly I think it's silly to complain about Cave being popular here when it's the only major developer still in activity.
