Just received Dodonpachi and MSH vs SF. Here's my impression

Post by housevibe »

MSH vs SF :

Wow, the game's pretty much arcade perfect. I compared the loading time between the arcade version and the saturn version, and at the VS screen, saturn version takes about 1 1/2 second more to load, so I think it is safe to say that the game have virtually no loading time :) Also, all the animations are still here, color palette is the same, and gameplay is extremely responsive. Awesome port !

Dodonpachi :

Well, all the FUN is still here, to say the least. Too bad the explosions are that pixelated. It wouldn't bother me if it was only the explosion, but the laser-bomb is also EXTREMELY pixelated, which bother me more than expected. I also noted that the music is way too loud compared to sound effects. Also strange is the fact that all the music is the same, in exception of the "completed level" theme which is modified for unknown reason...it seems that the "completed level" theme isn't an audio track, like the rest of the songs.

Also noted, minor things such less crisp and clear picture quality and whatnot...

As a plus, the game is more fluid than the arcade release...But even with all the problems I've mentionned, the game is still a blast, and I am really happy to play this version. Like I said, the gameplay is all here, and the conversion was sufficient to be great.

MSHvsSF have a 10/10, mostly because the conversion is pretty much perfect.

Dodonpachi, I'm giving it a 9/10. There is obvious problems, but the gameplay is so awesome that it's all that count...

Your opinion ?
Currently playing : Dodonpachi (Mame), Layer Section (Sat), Street Fighter Alpha (Sat)

MSH vs SF, and DDP are a couple of my favs. MSH vs SF gets a bit of attention from me, along with XMEN vs SF. Love the fast pace of those fighters. DDP's great, and sees quite a bit of play time here as well. Couple of choice games you have there. :)

Last time I checked MSH vs. SF was not a shmup. :? Come on people, if you want to talk about stuff like this put it in the Off Topic forums. It has no relevance to the main shmup forum.

And this must be the 1millionth thread involving Saturn DDP in the last month.

He mentioned a shmup in the post. Don't be such a kill joy. I thought you e-police didn't work after 6. Well, that's dedication for you.

On subject, that's awesome to hear. I also love the MSH vs SF and X vs SF. Both great ports of the arcade. Thank the gods for the 4 meg cart.

SS DDP is a great port. XMVSF and MSHVSF are incredible ports with 100% animation intact.

And more spam from you not concerning the topic at hand.

ON SUBJECT: You should also pick up Street Fighter Zero 3. It's a great game with all the arcade features plus a two player vs. one computer option, but unlike the DC version, you get to go through all the characters instead of just the bosses. The import Saturn is one of my favorite systems out there. Have fun.

OK, I'm moving this to off-topic for the fighting game discussion. The most recent Saturn Dodonpachi thread is here; please use it for any additional DDP comments.
