Oh no, he crossed the Bilderberg group! How can Dr. Paul possibly survive against the power of the vast statist conspiracy?

Wait a moment, he's been fine in at least the last five years.

In other news, David Frum was on the Diane Rehm show today on NPR, and had a good capsule criticism of Ron Paul (while Craig Shirley embarrassed himself, and the GOP, repeatedly, and tried to interrupt Frum repeatedly which is rare behavior on NPR), explaining why he thought that Ron Paul was in the race for fundraising and to build the "family business" (i.e., creating jobs for family and friends, and nepotism is a matter of fact in Paul's organization):
SHIRLEY
10:24:14
We -- when -- within the Republican Party. The problem with the moderates and liberals in the Republican Party is that when they attack conservatives, they always go to motives, and they always go to personal attacks. You just got an example of personal attacks.
FRUM
10:24:25
OK. Let me footnote it then.
SHIRLEY
10:24:27
But the same thing with Romney going after Gingrich, with the same thing going after Santorum, with the same thing Michele Bachmann, with the same thing with Rick Perry, is that...
FRUM
10:24:35
OK.
SHIRLEY
10:24:36
...we -- this has been the history...
FRUM
10:24:37
Craig.
SHIRLEY
10:24:38
...of moderates and liberals in the Republican Parties that...
FRUM
10:24:40
Let me...
SHIRLEY
10:24:41
...they will not argue ideological philosophy. I...
FRUM
10:24:42
Don't filibuster, don't filibuster the point. I will prove it to you.
SHIRLEY
10:24:45
Why can't I filibuster?
FRUM
10:24:47
'Cause you're not a senator yet. [Laughter from all at this point. - Ed]
SHIRLEY
10:24:48
Thank God.
FRUM
10:24:50
OK. Look, Ron Paul made, in the middle '90s, $1 million a year by -- with racist, anti-Semitic, inflammatory newsletters that championed the Southern cause and the Civil War. He was -- and he did that year after year after year and in a tiny little operation. Every one of those -- he's now offered a series of explanations of those events that are facially laughable and that have since been contradicted by witnesses.
FRUM
10:25:14
So when -- now, people tell us, well, he himself is not a racist person. So then you say, well, if you are not a racist person and you use racism to raise money, then I guess you're not a sincere person, that the suggestion or that the one that -- Ron Paul's insincerity is his best excuse for his biggest problem.
That leads me to a question - how many of us are Romney voters? Frum mentions this in the part that led up to the above, and which began Craig Shirley's nauseous screed against the "moderates or liberals within the Republican party:"
[Dr. Paul] got -- he had calamitous night in Florida. Not only did he only get 7 percent of the vote, but Romney crushed him among voters under 40. That's supposed to be his group. I don't have the -- I was just checking it. I think it's like 18 or 19 points he beat Ron Paul among the under-40 sets. And it -- and so the argument is when Ron Paul says, I'm riding this wave of young people, you know, it's a very selective group. And that is going to become more and more evident.

We are confident in gaining a much larger share of delegates than even our impressive showing yesterday indicates. As an example of our campaign’s delegate strength, take a look at what has occurred in Colorado:

- In one precinct in Larimer County, the straw poll vote was 23 for Santorum, 13 for Paul, 5 for Romney, 2 for Gingrich. There were 13 delegate slots, and Ron Paul got ALL 13.

- In a precinct in Delta County the vote was 22 for Santorum, 12 for Romney, 8 for Paul, 7 for Gingrich. There were 5 delegate slots, and ALL 5 went to Ron Paul.

- In a Pueblo County precinct, the vote was 16 for Santorum, 11 for Romney, 3 for Gingrich and 2 for Paul. There were 2 delegate slots filled, and both were filled by Ron Paul supporters.

- We are also seeing the same trends in Minnesota, Nevada, and Iowa, and in Missouri as well.

I'm curious how pervasive this has been in the caucus states so far and if it will make a difference come the convention.
Feedback will set you free.

You know what's depressing about this?

1 - I went to the link thinking it wasn't a joke.

2 - After realizing it was supposed to be a joke, it still wasn't funny, because it sounded probable enough to be true.

I guess I'm just jaded enough to find some things funny, still  This one has some distance because the Diebold scandal is sooo 2004.

Also, Diebold doesn't make voting machines anymore. In their acquisition of Diebold's Election Systems, Dominion Voting Systems said "We are extremely pleased to conclude this transaction, which will restore much-needed competition to the American voting systems market [...]"

I see they have Mitt Romney at the brink in that video.

For some news closer to home, then. This relates to Acid King's post, by the way.

Michigan to Romney: Go away, by Grand Rapid's CNN writer LZ Granderson (always a good read, he needs wider distribution). Romney promised solidarity with Michiganders on the automotive sector but then "flip-flopped" (actually, turned true to form) after the 2008 election to write an op-ed for the NYT, essentially the modern version of "FORD TO CITY: DROP DEAD." He has done other things like that as well. Now, Michigan Radio's political analyst Jack Lessenberry argues that Romney's poor showing in pre-vote polls is not indicative of how he will actually perform, but the tide has turned against Romney. Still, we've seen so many flips in confidence, from one week to the next, that you could argue that the whole Republican-voting public is the real flip-flopping bunch in this election. The pols are like people in little canoes trying to stay afloat in the midst of very, very big waves this election cycle.

Even dogs hate him, apparently. It's pretty astonishing how somebody who has a number of real positives in his background has found a way to make us all forget about them (of course, his way of running Bain Capital was more in line with the Mitt we've gotten to know more recently).

And since the topic is on Ron Paul, I was reminded of his follower's tactics as I listened to the mayor of Duluth, MN talk about a citizen campaign against racism. The extreme protests, he said, are organized by "swarming" racists from across the country, sending hate mail and other garbage his way. You have to expect it, he said. I realized that this is pretty much in line with the treatment I've seen of people on various blogs who have had the temerity to actually address the Paul campaign in a dispassionately critical fashion (the dispassionate part didn't hold out long; Paulista irregulars are really good at hurting their own cause by turning people against them, unfortunately).
