Ummm not sure whats the deal with all these PS3 version being hard to get comments but I would think it's certainly not the case.
I know people are hoping this does well so we can see Border Down but honestly I'm hoping this does well so we can see Senko 3.

Seems a shame it's NTSC-J only on 360. Maybe Rising Star can come to the rescue?

Bollocks!
Ami-ami have run out of 360 LE stock and I haven't pre-ordered it because I assumed there'd be no problem getting hold of it.... maybe they'll get more stock before release?

Re: Under Defeat HD
I think we'll get Senko 3 no matter what, since it's G.rev's most successful franchise. They're just porting Under Defeat because they need the money to cover for some of their recent mistakes. As long as it turns a profit (which shouldn't take much), I'm sure we'll see a port of Border Down next. The interesting question to think about is whether they'll continue to do multiplatform releases or go back to supporting only one console.Casper<3 wrote:I know people are hoping this does well so we can see Border Down but honestly I'm hoping this does well so we can see Senko 3.

Re: Under Defeat HD
I played the 360 ver. at a demo station yesterday and was impressed. Got a free poster too. It took me a good 5 minutes to realize that there were no side borders. Although I only played one credit my impression was that they put some effort into optimizing the game for a vertical screen orientation as the graphic didn't look stretched out at all. Obviously Grev couldn't have completely redesigned the game but it's definitely not a wholesale transplant of the the arcade/DC version. The touched up graphics looked nice as well especially on the stage 2 boss. You can really see more details of the battleships. The trees still look gelatinous tho
.
I didn't try out the dual stick mode but I watched some other guy struggle with it. (That's what happens when you try to play an arcade shooter with analogue sticks
) . I'm now thinking of picking up the limited edition (even though the art is ass compared to regular) but yeah, it's not cheap. I guess those demo station do work sometimes.

Cool, thanks for the update. So, we know that the game will 16:9 horizontally, but does it do 16:9 vertical? That would be awesome. I remember seeing screen caps showing this awhile ago, but I didn't see any mention of it in the recent trailer.scrilla4rella wrote:I played the 360 ver. at a demo station yesterday and was impressed. Limited 360 edition back in stock at AmiAmi, regular still OOS.
Probably worth grabbing it now if you want it.

It is. Feb 23rd. But AmiAmi ran out of stock for 360LE pre-orders. They have also run out of stock for 360 standard and PS3 LEs.

Re: Under Defeat HD
Just translated the achievements list into English.
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 85#p767485
Can someone give me insight into how hard this game will be to 1000/1000? It seems like it has a boring score system, so the clear/achievement unlocking are the only interesting parts for me.
Key questions:
・How difficult is the game to clear on Normal?
・How difficult is it to clear on Hard?
・How hard is a 2-all?
I assume New Order Mode will be as easy as Mamoru-kun's PS3 Gekijou mode which was pretty manageable once you get enough practice in. So in that sense I'm more concerned about Arcade Mode here.
Would appreciate any insight by veterans of the DC version.

I think the scoring system is pretty fun compared to G.Rev's other games, it's just not very deep.

Re: Under Defeat HD
Until any of us is able to seriously compare it side-by-side with the NAOMI/DC original, no insight can be made into the Arcade Mode at this time. We'll know in just over a week. Assuming it is extremely close to the original, a single loop clear on Normal or Hard isn't massively difficult, but will take a fair amount of practice. As for the 2-all... go look at our high-score thread.adversity1 wrote:Just translated the achievements list into English.

I wonder if the Conserve Ammo achievement essentially requires pacifist play for one stage.

Does anyone think Grev will implement analog controls not just the stick as a d-pad(digital) option?

Don't other 360 ports have analogue stick movement? I thought Futari did from memory.lawnspic wrote:Does anyone think Grev will implement analog controls not just the stick as a d-pad(digital) option?
If other's have done it I don't see why they won't add it in.

Re: Under Defeat HD
Straight 7s from Famitsu (28/40) which is much the same score they've given every other STG of the last few years.
Re: Under Defeat HD
I hope it has proper analogue stick support. Gradius V is the only STG that I know of that does, and I thought it worked well.
Re: Under Defeat HD
Personally I don't think the game is all that difficult except the last boss (especially on 2nd loop).
Otherwise, it's just knowing the layout of the levels and having strategies for the bosses.
I rather like the scoring, quite simple - rocket everything in sight or bump your option into them,
and kill bosses as fast as possible. Much better than milking bosses for eternity.
I'm not a big fan of the no lives remaining bonus but it's not as bad as say Gunnail.
Also, who cares about Famitsu scores - they gave FF13-2 straight 10s.
I haven't liked a FF since the SNES era.

What most people seem to have trouble with is recognizing Contribution Percentage enemies as well as perceiving exactly where/when bullets become active and where they are in relation to the copter's hitbox.alamone wrote:Personally I don't think the game is all that difficult except the last boss (especially on 2nd loop).

That reminds me, one thing I'd like to see in this port is the option to display the current Contribution Percentage somewhere on-screen (on the DC version, it's displayed on the VMU).

The Under defeat contribution feature is the best use ever for those stupid VMUs.

I know this is getting a little OT, but...Kollision wrote:Agreed.

DC Ikaruga displays the Chain Count on the VMU (a feature that was moved on-screen in the later GC and 360 ports). Although, I believe that UD and Ika are the only two shmups on the DC that actively use the VMU display for in-game info.
Re: Under Defeat HD
I have a PS3 LE ordered, but on the off chance this comes out in other regions I'll probably snag a NA 360 LE as well

Re: Under Defeat HD
Hmm whilst Amazon.fr do get listings like this right sometimes I'm not sure. The price is the baffling one because I can't see them selling it for 60 euros in Europe. It would have minimal uptake because it's too expensive/there's little market for it. It would have to sell for a lot less.
I think I'll just leave my J-360LE on order. I could cancel and hope for a slightly cheaper PAL release, but I could end up waiting a long time for something that may or may never materialise.

Re: Under Defeat HD
I'd have thought that if it was going to sell for 60 euros or even just a standard full-price retail release, that Rising star wouldn't be that interested in it. RSG's games are usually slightly cheaper releases. I can't imagine that releasing a top price shooter into a fairly luke-warm European market would interest them too much.Kiken wrote:August 30th, huh? Re: Under Defeat HD
7 minutes of preview footage, mostly featuring New Order Mode. This mode has some really odd enemy placement.
Upon closer inspection, was the lower left corner (above the bomb stock and option charge meter) really the best place to put the Top Score? I know it fades in and out when the player moves over it, but it just looks awkward. The colour of the bullets also undergoes a slight palette change when they move up into the active plain (from a vibrant red surrounding yellow to a pinkish-purple hue surrounding a cream colour).
In what little footage they show of Arcade Mode, it looks like the autofire rate has been changed.
