I haven't been in a movie theater in literally a decade (Saving Private Ryan.. I think), so forgive my ignorance - But does it matter? Aren't all movies the same price? As long as you give a ticket to the guy/gal collecting stubs at the entrance, I don't see what difference it makes what name is printed on it...?

Seating capacity for starters. If they just give you a generic ticket, how would they keep track of if a movie has sold out? What, no seats left? Guess your ticket is for a different movie.

Yeah, as jonny5 said, we do sell tickets specific to each movie.

Another thing: tickets here cost $2 since it is a second run theater.
What annoys me is customers constantly complaining about the "ridiculously high" concession prices.
Yeah, the prices are high, but what do you expect? Tickets are $2! We manage to sell tickets for $2 and still keep concession prices at least .50 cheaper on every item (on average) than all the other theaters in the city, and people still complain.

I was reading Njiska's blog and apparently some women complained about Dire Straits' song "Money for Nothing" because it says faggot a few times. Fuck YOU. That song is only about 30 years old, and if you listen to it in the context of the song it's not being used against a gay dude anyway.

It is obviously meant as an anti-gay slur in the context of the song; it's disparaging a man's (purportedly) effeminate appearance. Then again, the context of the song is that it's mockingly written from the POV of a clueless asshole.

Speaking of little things that annoy the hell out of me - when somebody says "X proves my point" when actually X disproves their point.

I haven't heard Money For Nothing for at least five years and I still remember the word faggot is used as an insult (maybe by a clueless asshole, as Ex-Cyber says).

The real debate is whether you can assume that anybody in the audience is going to "get it" - if they don't even understand it's a slur, the "is it being played straight or ironically" debate is that much further over their heads. People Are Stupid (or People Cannot Read / People Have No Attention Spans), Accept No Substitutes.

I like Njiska, but sometimes he hands the wrong ticket stub to the conductor on the clue train.

what I meant by the context, which is also how I believe Njiska understood it is like this. The song is written from the viewpoint of some poor old blue collar, appliance delivery men who are ticked off at the pretty boy glam bands getting chicks and money for nothing. In that context it's said out of jealousy, and not really directed as a gay slur, since they know the people they're calling out aren't even gay. Guys call other guys fags to hurt or insult them but that doesn't mean that they actually hate gay people. I wouldn't ever call a gay dude names because I don't have anything against him personally, but I've called straight guys fags because I know that it works. If you want to hurt someone you use what you know will work against them. You could do the same thing by calling a girl fat for example.

I believe that in that context it is different than a song that is specifically aiming to hurt or insult gay people.

Yes. On a related note, monitors/TVs that supply bogus EDID info (which seems to be the majority of them because of a mix of faulty assumptions in the standards and the vendors just not giving a shit).

Also, error messages that amount to "Failed to <do the thing you just asked the program/system to do>". Gee, thanks; I'm sure that message couldn't possibly be generated by two dozen unrelated problems, of which two or three dominate Google results because Google thinks that popularity = relevance.
