Hey there!
I purchased the green/grey Agetec Dreamcast stick new on ebay a while ago and while I'm fairly happy with it there is an issue with the lever. It is prone to get stuck in the corners, and when I center it there is some resistance and a twang sound when it rights itself. This usually doesn't happen much during game play, but rather if I grind the thing around the gate. I've looked into modding it but have decided it is way too much work for me. Someone on the trade board is selling a couple and mentions they are oiled with a joystick lubricant which I have never heard of, maybe this sorts it out?
If you can tell me whether this problem is out of the ordinary or if there is a reletively simple solution I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
DC joystcik is very bad, he never will act well.
first problem comes from steel washer, use glue

sometimes washer for spring, hole from shaft is too narrow use 7mm drill

and use molycote44

buy LS56 and mod this, is easy 15min

Putting in a JLF isn't too tough, but you'll need a dremel.

Thanks for the response.kowal wrote:DC joystcik is very bad, he never will act well.

Follow up question. Does installing a LS56 require cutting into the plastic housing of the stick? This is what I would prefer not to do, I don't possess the right tools for one thing. I own a EX-SE and VX-SA so I can definitely notice how poor the quality the DC stick is, yet I believe it is usable.
Maybe the JLF would be easier as the 2nd reply suggests? I can buy any joystick, the easier the mod the better. I can live with the buttons. If the difficulty is too high I will likely leave it stock.

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
from a gameplay perspective I think the LS-56 would be better than the sanwa, but that's a personal preference thing, so whatever.
The fact that kowal said it would take 15 min max implies to me that no cutting would be involved. I don't know for sure though.
so to review, this was a totally unhelpful post

not unhelpful at all. I think I'll buy a LS-56, open the agetec and see what happens
Soldering is not a problem

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
I have an LS-56 in my Agetec and it wouldn't fit without grinding down the shaft. The Seimitsu mounting plate replaced the Agetec one, I'm not sure what method kowal's referring to.

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
Most people who mod Agetecs with JLFs just attach the JLF directly to the Agetec plastic as it's about the right height for where the mounting plate would go anyway. This doesn't work for Seimitsu levers as they generally like to be mounted almost flush to the top plate.

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
This is the guide that I followed to mod my Agetec with an LS-56. It did require some cutting and grinding.

Re: Agetec Dreamcast Stick problem
you must remove steel mounting plate from LS56
cut profiles

and screw stick base to DC case (4 screw)
identical how is showed on J-stick
or
similarly how here
