my japanese xbox account hacked, any advice?
my japanese xbox account hacked, any advice?
I just logged into my Japanese xbox account (hadn't played it in a couple months due to playing many of the titles in the US or imported Euro versions recently) and saw that my points from a Japanese points card I bought were gone. I then saw that the three most recent achievements were for sports games I never had or play, starting with FIFA 12, and there was a person on my friends list that I never played with. In fact, I just use this account for single player shumps and don't think I've ever played online with anybody, nor have I given out the password in any sort of way. Do you think Xbox Japan will be any help if I don't speak Japanese (being able to read katakana won't cut it, I'm sure!)? Has anyone else had this happen?

This has happened to a lot of people actually. Since last year I'm hearing similar stories, it even made the news: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/fifa- ... to-buy-d/2

Thanks for the link. I've seen some similar sites and I definitely think that is what happened to me. What I haven't seen is what people in the US who have had hacked Japanese accounts have done. I tried calling Microsoft in the US and was told I'd have too call the Japanese office. I wouldn't suppose they would speak english?

Ive seen a few articles, while MS is keeping tightlipped about it some ppl think the hackers might be getting through users PC's, phishing, keyloggers and Xbox.com's Capcha

I really doubt most of this is due to a hack. If there was such a security hole on Live, we'd be seeing waaay more compromised accounts. The most likely culprit is a worker at one of Microsoft's 3rd-world call centers (or a group of them) stealing the account info of random users and selling them on the black market a few at a time, this would help explain why such a small minority of Live users have been "hacked" and why Microsoft is unable to find any evidence of hacking. I'm sure a few of the compromised accounts are the result of more traditional methods/weak passwords though.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:Ive seen a few articles, while MS is keeping tightlipped about it some ppl think the hackers might be getting through users PC's, phishing, keyloggers and Xbox.com's Capcha
