I won't lie, the new music for Thousand Knives is kinda lulzy. LOVE the new Zone A one though, possibly even moreso than the old one!
Need to find a way to play this, I wasn't expecting such a drastic overhaul for a telephone port.

I'm not so familiar with the Darius series, how many of the Burst tracks are remixes from the earlier games?ChainsawGuitarSP wrote:I won't lie, the new music for Thousand Knives is kinda lulzy. LOVE the new Zone A one though, possibly even moreso than the old one!

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Only one that I know of so far. I LED NU-RED GAS is a melody of:
Chaos, Boss 7, Say Papa, Visionnerz and Adam
I'm dying to hear a remix of Fine! Fine! Fine! (which is the best damn track from Syvalion) thrown in since we got Boss 5. >_>

What are some good techniques for scoring? I've never played any of the Darius games except for random tries in an emulator, but I just deleted it immediately because I didn't want to experience it that way at the time.

- Get your multiplier up by using attacks (particularly Burst) on big groups of enemies at once. You'll see a red flash indicating your multiplier has gone up. Every hit you take decreases the multiplier by one.Skykid wrote:Icarus, care to share?Demetori wrote:What are some good techniques for scoring? - Use Burst to destroy the last enemy in a formation for a Burst Multiplier, an extra multiplier of between x3 and x6 depending on ship, which is applied to your Shot Multiplier - Legend and Next top out at x96 (x16 Shot Multiplier * x6 Max Burst Multiplier), while Assault tops out at x112. Ideally, you should be using Burst on large enemies, midbosses, boss pieces, and countering boss Burst Lasers for the boss kill.
- Don't die, +10mil for a No Miss Clear.
- Destroy as many boss bits as you can, as well as any extra boss targets (like Iron Fossil's large missiles, Great Thing's drill missiles etc). Use Burst Laser where possible for this.
- Some routes are higher scoring than others.

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Managed to get a 1cc today with the default settings and the ship with the burst laser. Got 2 extends along the way and managed to die 2 times at the manta Ray looking enemy (name escapes me). Chose a different route to try and avoid the manta Ray boss but got it anyway. Could have been cool with different bosses on different routes.
Ended up with 46 million, so nothing spectacular

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
209 million on K route using Assault. #1 on US leaderboards.
I think Assault is the best scoring ship.
You can burst and quickly burst finish to do a large radius explosion with high damage and multiplier without using much burst meter.
Also burst counter is fairly lenient and you can just leave the burst spark a bit in advance to counter the boss red laser.
Plus once you finish that burst spark and if the boss is still shooting red laser, you can burst counter again.

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
I'm having fun playing with Origin at the moment. 180mil, ABCEH ALL (Lx4 NO MISS).
Lightning Flamberge is a pain in the ass with Origin, but Hungry Gluttons can be milked for ages if played correctly.
I thought Blissful Death would have taken up all of my playtime, but Darius Burst has monopolized my iPhone since release. Money well spent.

I think they're going to need to time out the bosses on the next update...
You can get 500 million+ by milking hungry gluttons endlessly

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Agreed. While the game still does the typical Darius thing of throwing fast-moving cubes at you if you hang around for too long, you can conceivably sit on Hungry Gluttons for about 10 minutes or more, if you take care not to do too much damage. I've had about 90mil just from the boss in Mission Mode, using both Legend Zero and Origin.alamone wrote:I think they're going to need to time out the bosses on the next update...

Those fish give you the same amount of points as Great Thing's drill missiles. What the fuck. And here I thought the extra burst counters his dolphins give would make me a winner.

Don't worry - there really are some great iOS shmups.
Second Prologue seems OK so far. I am loving the soundtrack, but being spoiled and having regular access to the DB:AC cab in London, this does feel a bit too bare-bones (I've only played 'Original' mode thus far though).

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Could you elaborate a little further here? I started using Burst a lot more and noticed myself scoring more but I don't understand the method to the burst multipliers, I never understand why the value is what it is, and I've never seen x112 from Assault. Also, what exactly is the Arm Bonus applied on the result screen?Icarus wrote: - Get your multiplier up by using attacks (particularly Burst) on big groups of enemies at once. How exactly does Burst Counter affect scoring, and do you have any general tips for timing boss destruction via burst counter or does that completely boil down to practice?
Having a lot of fun with this game, music and presentation are top notch as expected from Taito!

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
The multiplier at the top of the screen is the Shot Multiplier, which is the base multiplier added to enemy and formation values when you use Shot/Missile. Ideally, you shouldn't be using Shot/Missile for destroying the last enemy in a formation or boss bits, unless you really need the Burst Laser power. (There are sneaky ways to quickly recharge Burst Laser power, anyway.)Deca wrote:Could you elaborate a little further here? Using the Burst Unit normally adds a Burst Multiplier to your base multiplier, which differs depending on ship - Assault is x3, Legend and Next is x4. Ideally, you should use Burst Unit on the last enemy in a formation, and on large enemies for the extra multiplier - for example, those flying bird things that fire five-way bullets give you (30,000 * 16 * 4) = 1,920,000pts just for using Burst Unit at max base multiplier with Legend/Next.
As Origin does not have a Burst Unit, it has a higher base multiplier - x60.
Arm Bonus is inconsequential compared to the points gained from using Burst Unit, and no-missing the game (+10mil).
When you counter a boss or enemy Burst Laser, you get a Burst Counter, which also adds a higher Burst Multiplier to the base multiplier - Assault is x7, Legend and Next is x6. I really shouldn't need to emphasise the need to use Burst Counter on every boss part you can, and on enemies in stage where possible - you can get well over 40mil from stage1 and boss alone with accurate play.Deca wrote:How exactly does Burst Counter affect scoring…
Practice. Also, the color of the main body of the boss when you shoot it determines how damaged it is.Deca wrote:…and do you have any general tips for timing boss destruction via burst counter or does that completely boil down to practice?

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
I don't currently own any iThings, but I had a look for a trial version of SP on my brother's, and there didn't appear to be one. Is that right, or am I just rubbish at searching?
Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Somebody fill me in: Is it worth getting this if you already own the PSP version?

300mil barrier breached.

SP Mode, 310mil ALL, ABCEH (Lx5, NO MISS), Legend Zero.

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Has anyone tried clearing Burst mode with the Origin Hawk yet? I unlocked it a while ago after giving Mission mode a break and I find it hilarious that a ship that obviously wasn't designed for the mode is still selectable. Makes the game way more intense than Darius II, that's for sure.

Fuckin' A. I certainly hope it's a viable project. I'd happily donate to a Kickstarter if it came to that. Hell, I'll even buy all the stupid avatar marketplace stuff just to support it further. Just get on it, Taito!Zaarock wrote:give us the damn XBLA port

Re: Darius Burst: Second Prologue (iOS)
Upgraded to a 4s over the weekend - mainly for this.
- Game defaults at easy. No bulletspam during Roy Castle makes for an easy fight. Respawning with full shield too.
- Very simplified burst mechanics. Your beam last much longer and counters are easier too. Next Zero can only fire the drop beam and has an extra button to 'unlock' the burst unit so that you can aim it around the screen. The extra button makes tings a little fiddlier.
- Theres a new ship: the Assault and some new bosses in there depending which route you take in SP mode.
- Assault has autobomb as long as you have gauge left. Plays like sonic the hedgehog.
- Seems like you get at least one shield when you respawn even on normal.
Looks like they made an effort to make this seem less "hardcore" than the more expensive/rarer PSP game - and of course, it just isn't a viable alternative to Another Chronicle.
Still worth checking out though, especially after the snooze-fest that has been SGT2012 so far.

Awesome! This soundtrack, while not classic OGR, is really good in its own right.
Truth be told, I have been considering getting a touch for this game.
Worth it?
