I'll take that's awesome. I played tons of Fusion today on my way back from Washington DC (Man, was that a long way off.) I hit the walls so often in Fusion I ended up in bits and pieces a lot of times, but who cares, it was great fun. I was thinking about picking a futuristic racer like let's say F-zero GX. However, I fear that it may kick my ass too much.

With Andi, F-Zero GX is gorgeous and great fun. There is no doubt that It will initially kick your ass. It's one of the hardest if not the hardest game on the (US) GC. I should also note that once you play it, you can't go back to Fusion - it's just too damn slow in comparison.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:I'll take that's awesome. Fusion's OK, but definately the weakest of the series (though I haven't played Pure yet.)
I need to pop GX back in again sometime; haven't played it in a while and it's definately a great game. And if I can beat all the story mode chapters on Very Hard, anyone can. Though it's not something I'd like to have to do again...

My ranking of the series:
XL
3
Pure
.
.
Wipeout
.
.
.
.
.
Fusion
Of course, 3 and XL switch positions for me all the time. 3 is the more polished game, but XL is the more interesting one in my opinion. Pure is damn good, and was a nice way to get the series back on track after Fusion was so terrible. The original... well, it was great at the time, but age hasn't been kind to it. It's pretty ugly (XL and 3 have aged much better) even if it's still the best looking PSOne launch title, and you come to a halt if you so much as tap the walls. This was fixed in the Saturn version (which is my preferred one, all things considered), but it still isn't as good as the rest of the series, barring Fusion.

If I get a PSP, Wipeout Pure will probably be one of my first choices for that system. Out of the ones I have played, XL is my favorite, though I actually like Wipeout 64. I'm also interested in knowing more about that one Europe only Wipeout game for PSX. That one sounds interesting, though with it being a PAL game, finding a way to play it optimally may be hard.sethsez wrote:My ranking of the series:

Here's The definitive list of differences between WO3 and WO3:SE at the Wipeoutzone forums.BrianC wrote:I'm also interested in knowing more about that one Europe only Wipeout game for PSX. That one sounds interesting, though with it being a PAL game, finding a way to play it optimally may be hard.

Thanks for the info. Now I want to find a way to play this even more.Zach Keene wrote:Here's The definitive list of differences between WO3 and WO3:SE at the Wipeoutzone forums.BrianC wrote:I'm also interested in knowing more about that one Europe only Wipeout game for PSX. WO3:SE has definitely the most going for it. WO3 as a whole feels much more like a racing game...it quite possibly has more style than any other video game, even current-gen. I know that's kind of going out on a limb but it's justified. The entire atmosphere of the game is unlike anything I've ever played, and it dosen't hurt that for PSOne standards the visuals look absolutely gorgeous. Albiet W2097 was a bit fairer in wall contacts (you could "grind" the walls pretty easily as opposed to just coming to an abrupt stop), 3:SE looks to be the better game overall.
Fusion was just a serious letdown in every way. Blah gameplay, blah visuals, almost no style (Good Technology tried though, but they couldn't hold a candle to tDR), and a rather crud soundtrack. All the things that a Wipeout game isn't supposed to have. :/

Im a big wipeout WHORE.
(hehe)
i also have a 60 or 63 point rapier championship on the original wipeout, i did it like 6 years ago, so i cant remember the exact score.
Although to some it will sound crazy, i voted for the original wipeout as my all time favorite.although 2097 is a very close second.
Ive played (and completed) them all upto wipeout pure (i dont have a PSP).
Wipeout 64 is really amazing considering its on N64. In fact they are all amzing games apart from wipeout fusion, where they screwed up the handling slightly.

I've only played Fusion and XL, and neither game gave me ANY sense of velocity; not even remotely. Especially compared to a lot of Midway's racers.
And XL felt partly like an advertisement for Red Bull-that also annoyed me. For @#$@#$'s sake, there's advertisements on the FLOOR of the supermarket I work for; we get bombarded with advertisements enough every day of our lives; we shouldn't have to put up with it while playing a frickin' video game.
I would like to play Pure for the PSP at some point, but the other games in the series that I've played so far have been nothing but dissapointments.

...are we talking about the same XL? That game got stupidly fast.dave4shmups wrote:I've only played Fusion and XL, and neither game gave me ANY sense of velocity; not even remotely. Especially compared to a lot of Midway's racers.
The game is supposed to be a sporting event (albiet FROM THE FUTURE). Most of them have advertisements somewhere. I mean, really, look at a car from NASCAR. The walls of stadiums are covered with ads. Giant billboards fit in with the theme perfectly. And XL felt partly like an advertisement for Red Bull-that also annoyed me. It still seems pretty inexcusable. I agree that they should have everything coated with advertisements, but they should fabricate companies and products that fit in with the future theme of the game.sethsez wrote:The game is supposed to be a sporting event (albiet FROM THE FUTURE). Which WO:3 did VERY well. The 8 racing teams (as well as tDR) had billboards and adverts plastered ALL over the place.Andi wrote:It still seems pretty inexcusable. Agreed. XL really shocked me with its speed and how much faster it is compared to the original Wipeout. That game is wicked fast! Another thing the Wipeout series does really well is power ups.sethsez wrote:...are we talking about the same XL?
