Why oh why can't they sell these things pre assembled

Not really into figure and such but would snatch this and the casper one up if only they came pre-assembled, I don't have the tools or patients to build a kit.

Same for me and the ketsui/doj ship kits.

The price is a joke. Also figures don't take that much effort to put together. I have a Mega Man one that took me about an hour. If you have the patience to play the STG genre you should have enough patience to snap together a figure.

Ditto. This is really expensive for an unassembled kit. Were they super-limited or something?

They're not even available for sale yet. The reason it's listed as sold out is because Cave haven't opened their upcoming sale afaik, just shown that these are part of the lineup. Solaris is obviously encouraging pre-order interest and then will attempt to bag some. Or something.

Anyway, that price is bullshit. You could have a six girl Thai hooker orgy for half that cost, and they'd call their own cabs.

You could buy an entire ladyboy whore house for the night.

18k, and you're left with a bionic panty-shot on your living room table.

Bring on the hooker(s).

231 USD.

while that is high for something like this, if you look at how overpriced every other CAVE item is, it shouldn't be a surprise.

50$ for a CD, 100$ for a poster.

Lots of wrong things in this thread. Sigh.

It has no manufacturing line (GSC (Max Factory, Phat, etc), Alter, MegaHouse, Kotobukiya, etc), so you're buying a resin kit with limited quantities. Chances are there's < 100 kits available. Often few are pre-painted and showcased at events (ie. Wonder Festival), and if a manufacturing line decides to pick one up, it'll be mass produced.

This one actually is pre-painted by R.C.Burg, but isn't assembled. According to cave-shop.jp, it's actually 14,700 yen for this kit.

The DFK black label DVD cost me £55, just to put it in context. I'd say $230 is suprisingly cheap for Cave.

I thought it was kind of odd that it was painted. The only resin kit I ever bought (Galaxy Fraulein Yuna!), similar to this one:

Not only was it not pre-painted, the parts had only been very roughly cut out of the moulds, and every piece had to be carefully trimmed before you could paint and assemble. And then there was a lot of fiddling to even get them to fit, I think I had to use filler in a lot of cases.

Lol- is there a Japanese equivalent of the apposite English phrase "He has more money than sense"?
I know that they can charge whatever the market will support but seriously they must be laughing til they wet their pants on this stuff.
In a lot of ways they're behaving like coke or smack dealers ,exploiting the fans addiction to ridiculously overcharge. It's just greed, pure and simple, so how do they sleep in their beds at night eh?

...and then you're supposed to feel guilty for playing Pink Sweets in MAME. But not as guilty as I'd feel charging £180+ for a DDP figurine :D

We've been through this, but, while you're right about milking fans, you have to think about all the beloved companies of yesteryear that have either gone bankrupt or been absorbed by larger companies to stay afloat. Considering that the industry is populated with companies the size of Capcom, Square Enix, Bungie and Rockstar, it's amazing they still have their head above water as an independently owned enterprise.

The only thing that irks me about their merch practices (and I know I've mentioned it before) is when they reproduce products that have had years worth of appreciation in the collector market, just to make a cheap 1000 yen here or there. I'm not fussed if they want to churn out fuck pillows and DVD's at top dollah, but it's pretty tactless to reprint a poster that's summoning £250 at auction, for example.

I agree to a certain extent but it's supply and demand, if people will buy it at that price obviously you charge as much as possible.

I mostly wanted to buy the DVD because I was considering actually trying to play the game seriously and wanted to see what a proper high level run looked liked.

I also got a keyring designed around the counter lasers that appear when you hyper with "DANGER" written on it. That was more reasonably priced.

^^^I've been wanting that DVD for a while. ...just hard to swallow the bullet on the price. I really love DFK (BL & WH)

Is it THAT much better than the replays on XBL? (which already far far surpass my skill)

If I ever bought a model (of a cool spaceship not of a little girl) I would give my friend some beer and he would assemble and/or paint it for me. You should get a friend like this.

That's a good idea. I know someone who could probably build it from scratch. He could assemble something like this with his eyes closed and one hand tied behind his back

It has 4 runs on it:

A-strong Hibachi run
B-power Hibachi run where the player gets 99% of the score of his own world record
C-Bomb Hibachi run

Standing up to Zatsuza, B-strong run up to the defeat of Zatsuza

All the runs are INSANELY good. But really it's 4 hours or less of footage for the price.

All of this plus, resin molds can only be used a certain number of times to make parts because of wear, so there is an expense in recasting which just adds to the cost of a one off piece like this.

Here is an awesome example. Expert modeler designing and casting his own work. This is surprisingly cheap for a 190 piece kit.

Anybody else find it immensely disturbing to be looking through those images, see a resin figure with a panty shot, then immediately after see the figure split into a hundred pieces?

You must have very low self-esteem if being able to parse slang makes you feel stupid. That's like feeling stupid for being able to recognize abstracted shapes in a stretch of clouds.

I've bought ~10 of them because they're fun or something.
