Konami Shooting Collection

Post by Udderdude »

So this massive 10-CD beast has been released. Interestingly, they included the soundtrack to the never-released Vic Viper racing game.

There is a single pic at least, from some magazine. There was a thread about it somewhere... maybe Arcade Otaku? Well, fuck... I'll look.

It's a pretty good release, though the instrumentation on the Salamander 2 unreleased tracks seems off (even using the known unreliable M1 as a basis).

Yeah, they sound really out of tune. Don't know what happened there. Also I think there's some tracks from Space Manbow that are missing.

I just finished listening to the whole thing, there's a lot of good stuff on there. I had already heard a good deal of it from other releases, but there were a few surprises. Namely, the Twinbee series which I had mostly ignored up to this point, and Polystars, which I didn't even know had a soundtrack release prior to this.

About the Salamander 2 release - I realized I was listening to a remix version (the ones marked "EX"). The "regular" versions seem fine (not sure about the intro to Fire Tripper, but...).

A real surprise is the inclusion of a track (Sent On A Special Mission) from Garuka, aka Devastators :D

A couple favorites are Silence from Axelay and the Gradius II Shop theme. Many old favorites like FIRE WARNING from Space Manbow and M-1 (unreleased, from A-JAX) of course. Speaking of which, THE FINAL ZONE from A-JAX is another track that sounds off (base / treble balance). I don't know of any tracks missing from Space Manbow.

I'll have to look for that OST...I don't think those tracks are in the game (at least not played during gameplay).
