Double Fine Adventure
I'm sure most of you guys already read about it because it's all over the net, but just in case:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/667 ... -adventure
Their initial goal was 400k and at this moment me writing they already reached over 700k. The first day is not over and they already have almost a million. o.O
This is ridiculous and awesome and I'm not even a huge adventure fan. Also love this guys comment about Germany in the video.
############################
Taken from the GAF thread:
You see, some pledges are so premium, they break the Kickstarter system. They’re just that good. So we have to post them here. These are the Premium Rewards. The Glengary Rewards. These Rewards are for Closers.
If you want to make a premium pledge, just mail kickstarter at doublefine.com. I put the at in there to totally fool the spam bots. I hope it didn’t fool you.
Anyway:
Pledge $15,000 or more:
Dinner with Tim Schafer and key members of the dev team.
Pledge $20,000 or more:
Dinner and BOWLING with Tim Schafer and key members of the dev team.
Pledge $30,000 or more:
Picture of Ron Gilbert smiling.
Pledge $35,000 or more:
Undoctored picture of Ron Gilbert smiling.
Pledge $50,000 or more:
Become an actual character in the game.
Pledge $150,000 or more:
Tim Schafer (that’s me) will give last four remaining Triangle Boxed Day of the Tentacles, in original shrink-wrap.” (Limit of 1) (Holy crap, what am I thinking? I only have four of those!)

Is this for psychonauts 2? instead of just taking the money from notch they want their fans to fund the game? wow

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Great and all that they're making some funding happen but it doesn't seem like they need our help, and you really didn't need to copy-paste their entire page.
Also those >$15000 ones look fucking ridiculous.
Also also Psychonauts was overrated as fuck, unless you're one of those dorks that only plays games for the ZOMG QUIRKY/AWKWARD HUMOR or whatever.

Re: Double Fine Adventure
I didn't play Psychonauts, but I'd love to see an adventure game the quality of Monkey Island. I think too often people focus on the quirkiness as Udderdude pointed out.
But what made MI exceptional were the puzzles: They always felt like you were solving the problems by thinking about it logically, not by randomly clicking around until you figured out WTF you could manipulate in the environment (like that terrible Full Throttle game or the original Sam and Max). And, the puzzles were well-integrated into the story, unlike a lot of Myst-inspired adventures (e.g., Resident Evil).
Sadly, I don't think most adventures can claim to be that good. But, in the off-chance that it could be, it's worth a shot!

Not sure why a successful non-indie game dev should be using kickstarter, but people can throw money at whatever they like, I suppose. Cave should do a kickstarter so it can keep making shmups. Plenty of paraphernalia that folks would geek out over for those upper tiers.

You're right, I edited my post so only the over 150k is left.Udderdude wrote:Great and all that they're making some funding happen but it doesn't seem like they need our help, and you really didn't need to copy-paste their entire page.
I don't care about Psychonauts. We are talking here about a classic Point and Click Adventure and it's Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert. The last time they both worked together they made classics like Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island and Full Throttle.Udderdude wrote:Also also Psychonauts was overrated as fuck

Re: Double Fine Adventure
It's because they don't want to pass the game through assholes that are called publishers like EA and other rich restrictive dipshits and publish it themselves from the kickstarter cash.Moniker wrote:Not sure why a successful non-indie game dev should be using kickstarter, but people can throw money at whatever they like, I suppose. Re: Double Fine Adventure
I like this, cutting out the likes of EA and co is a good thing, now if Relic did the same with homeworld 3. That said, knowing how retarding us fans can be it had better be a good game for their sake.
Day of the Tentacles for 150k
some epeen collector with more cash than brains will buy it
Day of the Tentacles for 150k

Re: Double Fine Adventure
I'm all for classic P&Cs and screwing EA dead but if I had that kind of money I'd fun my own damned game. A fool and his money...as they say.
Re: Double Fine Adventure
They want to create a classic point-and-click-adventure in the vein of Maniac Mansion/Monkey Island (which is an awesome idea, btw). What kind of humor did you expect on the kickstarter page?
The expensive rewards are a joke, obviously, which I think went over your head.
Like in a classic point-and-click-adventure, the correct choice here is $15 USD, not $150,000. They pretty much expect you to pledge 15 USD, which will get you the full game once it's done. What a ripp-off, they deserve to die.
Whine moar if you will, though I think ou just showed that the type of game they are creating isn't for you.

Re: Double Fine Adventure
Never played any of their previous adventure games but I'm a big fan of Psychnauts, and I enjoyed games like Deja Vu and Shadowgate immensely.
Not that they seem to need my money now, but I kicked in a bit of cash for the project.

Something's wrong with this sentence. It's like saying: "... classics like Jaws, Psycho and Dude where's my Car."Teufel_in_Blau wrote:classics like Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Monkey Island and Full Throttle.
