Looks pretty good. Although I think rebooting it is premature.

They're bringing the mechanical webshooters back. I'm mostly interested in seeing how they'll pathetically attempt to work them back into the main comics canon, assuming they haven't already.

Their solution for integrating the organic webbing into the comics was to have Peter morph into a giant pregnant female spider and give birth to himself.

And then Thor (accidentally, I swear) kidnapped his girlfriend?

The newspaper comics are just pathetic, but in a hilarious way. I feel so bad for Stan Lee.

You know, I'm not so sure this is a bad thing. Didn't the Maguire Spidey get pretty much a complete run? Now we've got yet another way at looking at the most useless superhero this side of the Pacific (who is not swimming in it, y'know). Should be fun.

I can't say I understand having a reboot so soon either. Spiderman 3 was bad, yeah, but I thought Sam Raimi could've still cracked out another good movie or two. Spiderman 2 was all kinds of awesome, after all. Strange to have the plug pulled so abruptly.

They have. By going back to mechanical webshooters with no explanation at all, as far as I know.

It's made by Sony. What else could we expect? (Though I wonder if the Disney purchase of Marvel would have had anything to do at this point)

And I thought Japanese rehashed the same idea over and over again.

*groan* Why do Marvel characters have so MANY FREAKING reboots?!

I mean, I can see why it was necessary maybe the first two times- but after that, they've really-REALLY-gotten out of hand by now.

Like how many different origin stories does Wolverine have now?? :x

I'm not sure if Sam Raimi wanted to do one after 3, though. I remember reading that he was forced to put Venom in at last minute. The movie was a rushed mess that felt like they tried to shoehorn multiple plots into one movie. I wouldn't mind Raimi directing another one, but Venom was pretty much butchered in Spider-Man 3.

What an embarrassment. I'm pretty glad I haven't spent any money on the Marvel & DC stuff in about 5 years now. From my understanding DC has done some pretty harsh things to Batman lately as well.

lol! They're pulling this relaunch shit for the movies now.

This junk has zero drama when anything of significance gets negated by the next "reimagining." Aunt May is like 300 years old and they still brought her back when she died. Marvel didn't have the stones to kill off an old woman. Any grown man that gets excited wondering about the next plot twist is being hussled.

For some good reading, scroll down to the section "List of comic book characters that have returned from the dead" and check out the ricoculous reasons they came up with to explain each character's revival.

My personal favorite: the death of the original Green Goblin, one of the more dramatic battles of 70s era Marvel, was shat on when they brought him back in 1996 because he was "revealed to have survived impalement thanks to a previously-unknown accelerated healing factor included in his powers."

Most movie/comic contracts work on the basis that you can't go 5 years without making a movie based on the comic contract. Otherwise it is made void and the contract sold elsewhere.

Thats why there were a heap of Batman movies that were crap, why Batman changed actor a few times. Why Superman and Spiderman are being reinvented. Its by forced hand they need to keep making them.

It looks far better than I expected it too, I'll probably see it at full price if it doesn't get shit reviews. But still, even though I only kinda pay attention to comics now days I can't help but feel like neither Marvel or DC have any fucking clue what they're doing with their properties.

Where did you hear this? Warner Bros. owns DC Comics, all of their movies are through them.

Nothing except for methamphetamines explains those Joel Schumacher Batman movies.

Just neorichieb telling us all about the "inside story" he doesn't know about, as usual.

Amen to that.
Spider Man
Soo, that trailer is quite shit. Looks worse than I thought it would. It's basically Brit Spider Man now, since Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans (terrible casting there) and the Director, Marc Webb, are all English.

Marc Webb has zero film credits to his name, and is known for directing The Office. Hollywood placing a safe bet there then.

Andrew Garfield is actually a fairly decent young actor, but unless the film turns out to be a bolt from the blue, I doubt very much it'll top Raimi's version.

Joel Schumacher's heap, though I liked Batman Forever despite its flaws. I thought Mask of the Phantasm was good stuff too, though that was animated and not live action.

I overheard conversations. Sorry if I passed something over as fact, I just took it as fact. I can't find anything on the net to back up my claim.

But I definitely heard a friend or someone say that if the marvel license is not used it is lost.

I don't know how truthful it is but I've heard the same thing before. Supposedly it's the reason for a number of the really bad comic book movies that have happened.

Don't worry, we still love ya.

You were "close, but not quite a free cigar." :P

Of course many deals for movies based on licenses come as package deals - that's not a great revelation (industry sites will back this up). It just doesn't make sense when the studio owns the property directly.

Now, will they lock in with the director for a trilogy, or just go movie by movie? We'll see. At the end of the day these agreements are made up not according to an industry standard but according to the needs of the participants (obviously, heavily slanted to the people funding the film).

Can't complain, haven't seen it, but from what I have seen I can say I don't look forward it. It's a shame they F'd up things with Raimi
Spider-Man 1 and 2 was epic.
